Or just use a cable and a normal vent mount for under a quarter of the price and not overheat your phone

Also, this will literally destroy your phone if charging while you’re using your car’s heating.

I took a ventmount I already had, glued a MagSafe charger to it when MagSafe was first released. It has worked really nice for me and it’s SO convenient. But 100 USD?! Hahah. That’s ridiculous!

I wish cars had something better to stick these to than air vents. If you crash then your phone will be a projectile no matter how strong the magnet is.

Much better than those vent rib destroying mounts are the customized ones from ProClip which you slide/clip into a seam between panels. Car specific mount plus device specific holder = also around $100.

I like it, especially with the vent mount - which can help with overheating ... but it's a no-go for me. I prefer an entirely detachable cord so I can have one long enough to route in the crevices of the center console/etc.

I can't tell you how many times someone in the passenger seat accidentally pulled on the cord while getting in/out of my car ... so now that it's attached to my phone/charger - everything falls instead of the cord just detaching? No thanks.

I'm sure some will say "you're getting in/out wrong", and whatever else ... but in reality, for me it's an issue  ... throw in the fact that if the cord gets damaged I have to replace the whole thing instead of just the cord? Hello, Mother Earth!

It’s nice until the phone starts to overheat from using GPS and charging at the same time..

I have a similar one and my 12PM overheats regularly when charging and gps, especially if it’s sunny outside.

As this is an air vent mount, would it be possible to blow cool air over the phone to prevent this?
Just what I was thinking...if everyone saying this will overhead in the sun/heat, why don't you have your A/C on, cooling this down? It's a VENT charger. Cool air is right behind the phone!

I have a vent holder (not charger) and plug in my phone to charge and to use CarPlay. My phone is usually nice and cold when I reach my destination.

$100 😆

My car has Carplay built in. I plug my phone in with a $10 lightning cable and tuck it in the storage under the dash since there's no need to have it in sight while driving.

That vent clip looks kind of small. The only company I have found that makes decent vent clips is a company named Vicseed on Amazon. I have a non charging MagSafe mount but they have a 15 watt charging one for $59.

If I go with a wireless charging solution in my car, I’d more than likely choose this from ESR. It will probably keep your iPhone from overheating issues as well as being cheaper.

It’s an interesting product due to the cooling, but it is heavily ugly.
I don’t care about battery health as I get replacements once or twice a year. I would pick this Belkin over both the options I currently have.
$60 MagSafe vent holder system
$60 Belkin 7.5w MagSafe

Agreed. It isn’t much to look at, that’s for sure. And I like the look of the Belkin even though it’s white. Just really putting it out there as an alternative for those who may need something that can also deal with potential overheating issues and such.

Mine gets blown cold air all the time, not sure how it’ll fair during the winter time though

Damn, this is what I wanted. But wow, it’s overpriced.

I have their non-official MagSafe car mount charger, it’s black and matches my car.

What I liked about the official MagSafe ones, it has a clicking sound mechanism that confirms the attachment, and the alignment magnet is nice.

The non-official one is quiet when it attaches. There is no alignment, so there’s no sense of moving it to the straight position. Total non-issues, but I prefer having those.

My issue is that the cable sticks out from the flat surface on the non-official version, so if you have the phone tilted for your view, the cable will stick out. And I always snag it with my fist when shifting gears, which is a nightmare in slapping the phone from the magnet. I had to awkwardly bend the cable, but the plastic end port still sticks out.

The product image in this article made me think it’s coming from the back, which would be better. But after seeing it on Apple’s site it’s pointed at an angle from the back. Which looks promising.

But oof, $139

Are there weirdos mounting their phone to a car vent that do have car play?

I guess I'm a weirdo also. I like my phone front and center. Not everything I need is on CarPlay.

Yes I’m that weirdo. Have the og belkin car Mount, this would be nice but I lose the car play feature because it’s not wireless in my car
I've tried an add-in wireless CarPlay adapter in my car (Amazon sells them) so that I could use MagSafe charger (didn't work in my car at all), but in the end, it's just really not that much of an inconvenience to put my iPhone on the magnetic vent mount I have and plug in the lightning cable for charging and CarPlay.
