Oh lord. I used to work at Best Buy in the mobile department and this was a big NoNo, specially with iPhone releases. We were never supposed to tell customers if we will have any in stock, because in reality we have no idea how many we will get. We’ll usually get them the night before! It would be a pain because we would have to stay after closing hours to get all the pre-orders ready. Of course this is an S model, so your chances of getting one on Friday are a bit higher than usual.

Noooooooooooo!!!

Thanks for the insider info. May I ask how long ago you worked in their mobile department?

And if that’s how pre-orders work at Best Buy, Then they shouldn’t emphatically state in my pre-order that my iPhone X’s Max is “Ready for pickup on Fri, September 21“ as “on” means Friday pickup and not maybe Friday or at some unknown later date.

I guess we’ll find out Friday!

I stopped ordering iPhones for launch day at best buy after last years debacle. It was promised same day pick up on launch day, but the phone didn't come in till two weeks later. It was a nightmare .

I pre ordered with BB and received an email yesterday telling me they have them in stock and that they will be calling me to confirm I am picking it up on Friday. I will be watching for a price difference for sure

I am kind of worried about preorders for pickup. All models/colors/storage still show 21st for pickup. I preordered and have a 21st pickup date, but it seems suspicious that Best Buy has no dates pushed back on any models. Unless demand is not as high and Best Buy will be getting a lot of stock.

A couple days ago all iPhones were on Sept 24 now they're all back. Idk it's weird.

I also used to work at Best Buy, and I can confirm this to be the case. However, I worked in corp HQ in Richfield, MN on the back-end EBS system. During iPhone launches, we'd have huge invoices from Apple for the original shipment(s) of phones. I could see how many phones there were, but I could not see the distribution to the retail stores. That was a closely guarded secret, and even though I had access to Dick Schultz's HR record, I was nowhere near that clearance level. They use a lot of sales metrics, and that was 3 years ago... given the veracity of the Chief Technologist (if it's still the same dude), then I can only imagine how far they've come with that intelligence.

Personally, I miss the pressure of the $350 million invoice payment process running slowly and having people whose titles started with "C" standing over me demanding to know when it would be finished and what I was doing. Good times. Seriously too - I thrive on that kind of pressure.

So I preordered a Max 256 on AT&T from Best Buy yesterday as it said it will deliver by the 21st. (I opted to have it delivered instead of in-store pickup). However some responses in this thread ha e me worried, as I’ve never preordered a new iPhone from Best Buy before. They were the only ones that said they could deliver a Max by launch date, so either they got a bunch of stock or their system is bunk. I did hear about last years debacle with the X and hope that isn’t the case this year.

Dates just slipped to Monday 09/24 on BB website. I hope that is a good sign for everyone who got 09/21 delivery/pickup date.

You can still pre order for in store pickup on the 21st though. Just seems like delivery has moved to the 24th probably because Best buy is using 2 day shipping.

I can confirm that, fortunately my BB order still shows “delivers by Sept 21”. No movement on it yet, though.

I spoke to someone through verizon and Best buy, the Verizon rep was actually able to see the status of my phone and it's in Final Shipped meaning it's currently at a facility before the final delivery. And the bestbuy rep told me that there should be an update to the tracking/shipping today or Thursday at latest.

I can confirm this confirmation.
IOW: same here, still the 21st, no news (is good news until tomorrow then it is very bad news)

Ok, cool, so I guess BB’s system is just slower to update than the carrier’s systems? Would make sense since a SIM card is involved.

If things are still like they were last year at Best Buy, you guys will start getting updates tomorrow night or late afternoon when BBY starts getting their iPhone orders. I remember last year the iphones came in around 4:30 and we started scanning and getting all the pre-orders ready around 5pm. The year before that we didn't start after the store was closed at 9pm.

Well they could always send it next day, being it ships Thursday to get it Friday.

Can’t wait!!

Is it odd that I’m not seeing anyone anywhere saying they preordered from Best Buy except on this thread? I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. I ordered Sunday, my next upgrade reflected it almost immediately on AT&T’s site so don’t know if that’s good or bad. I’ve never preordered from anywhere other than Apple so I don’t know what the heck is to be expected.

They could ...

I have to tell myself that it isn’t a tragedy if I have to wait a couple of days for my iPhone. A week after I get it won’t matter what day I got it.

Patience. Keep telling myself that. :)

Is it odd that you are only seeing people who ordered from Best Buy on the official “Best Buy 2018 New iPhone Pre Order” thread? Not particularly lol.

Also the most popular common sense options are your carrier (cause customers upgrade through them) or Apple (cause they make the phone). So its reasonable that not as many orders would go to Best Buy. I too tried my carrier then Apple but only BB had release day delivery dates. So now wait and hope.

Is it me or does it seems a little odd that Best Buy’s website states that their 25 closest stores to me still have every version of the Xs and Xs Max for AT&T, Verizon and Sprint available to purchase right now AND that you can still “Pick it up at ________ on Release Day” at all 25 Best Buy stores?

Note: _____ is for local store city name.

It just seems rather implausible that all 54* variations of this year’s iPhone
are still all available at each store for Release Day pickup.

*54 Variations = (3 Xs x 3 Carriers x 3 Memory Choices = 27) + (3 Xs Max x 3 Carriers x 3 Memory Choices = 27)

Either Best Buy has the best kept secret of this year’s launch or they are setting themselves up for some serious customer backlash like last year. I just hope they learned their lesson from the X debacle and this is all real.

I have a post somewhere from bestbuy let me look for it, but basically they said they would do their best to make sure everyone who pre orders the phone gets in on release but we'll see.

So I just called my local Best Buy yesterday and asked if we did pickup it was legit. She said yes and no.

She told me they have no idea what they are getting stock wise. They will get a bunch but it will still be first come first serve. Shes saying they use whatever they have in stock to fill the first comers, preorder or not. Then in the NEXT shipment they actually set aside the preorder phones. So despite having it preordered, it seems like you'll need to go early to ensure you get one THAT day? She openly told me it was stupid lol.

Im gonna hit my local Verizon at 8am, if I strike out there I'll go this route for the 10am opening.

Best Buy told me that on their forum a few days ago, which is only only a general answer that doesn’t really mean anything, especially when you consider they said something very similar to someone else during last year’s X launch and we all know how that turned out. I hope they fixed the X issue and they have all our phones shipped or available to pick up on release day (fingers crossed).
