Carrier Best Buy 2018 New iPhone Pre-Order Thread

Is it odd that you are only seeing people who ordered from Best Buy on the official “Best Buy 2018 New iPhone Pre Order” thread? Not particularly lol.

Also the most popular common sense options are your carrier (cause customers upgrade through them) or Apple (cause they make the phone). So its reasonable that not as many orders would go to Best Buy. I too tried my carrier then Apple but only BB had release day delivery dates. So now wait and hope.

No, I mean I haven’t seen anyone outside of this thread saying they preordered from Best Buy lol. Obviously I’m going to see it on here. This is the only thread I’ve found.

That doesn’t make any sense... everything I have preordered from BB for in-store pickup always had a label with my name and order # on it attached to whatever item I am picking up. Unless iPhone launches are different, a pre-order means it gets reserved for you with your name (literally) on it.

Fortunately I did delivery instead so I don’t have to fuss with that, and UPS delivers pretty early in the morning here. I think I’ve read something before where UPS will even prioritize iPhone deliveries because Apple wants you to get it in your hands as close as possible to when other people do.
 
I was initially charged and it looks like the charge has fallen off. Did this happen to anyone else.

But its probably the only place you would logically expect to see it. :) The other threads are for other stores and carriers. I don't think it would come up.

I don't find it unusual. But the negative reports, that concerns me. We will see.

I have too so I totally get what you're saying. They may handle this differently? Im not supporting it or saying this is gospel, just passing along what I was told. They could have a list of people for it and mark them as picked up if it was sold to a person with an active preorder but still sell the stock to walk ins.

Considering how botched things have been in years past, would this kinda of handling surprise me though? No at all haha.

They have a rolling authorization charge that will come and go from your account until it is finally charged when it ships. Completely normal for Best buy don't worry about it. Mine also just posted back into my bank account, hopefully meaning that it's going to ship soon.

Thank you. I’ve never done a pre-order so I’m kind of in the dark as to what will happen or what the process is.
 
My big question is : Will they sell me a “universal” iphone outright (full price) on launch day?? I have a large store credit to use & there is no way to reserve online without providing a carrier & phone/ account # to have them get their “upgrade” fee & tie up my AT&T account!

In past years I thought the only way to get a true, completely unlocked “universal” phone like you are talking about was to buy directly from Apple. If nothing else, you could use your BB store credit to buy a bunch of Apple gift cards and just buy it there.

The Best Buy "universal" phones are locked to the first carrier you put a SIM card in for EXCEPT Verizon, which doesn't lock their phones. The nearest Apple store is an hour away & always a Mob scene on a launch day. But that IS a good idea about the Apple store cards (if possible).

Does anyone of these former Best Buy employees know if they will tell me "no stock" when trying to buy at full price without activating , getting it locked (and paying an upgrade fee)??
 
My card just got charged(not preauth but actual charge) for the taxes at 4:05pm est. No status change on BB app yet but I am hopeful now.

How are you guys tracking updates for In Store pickup? I preordered in store and all I have is a confirmation email.m?

They didn't update their system till Wednesday for Pre-Orders to start shipping to peoples houses by Friday. Some even Thursday shipped overnight for Friday delivery. Now pickup will be prepared on Thursday at the store for Friday pickup. That is how it worked for the Note 9.

But still carrier locked even at full price.
