most of you have no business experience i guess.
let me explain this to you.

who thinks that samsung is giving the tablets are way of.
these products (in this case a tv) have life cycles and they will be replaced for a new product sooner or later. the companies always slash the price to clear the last units so that the new models can replace them.

in this case samsung slashed the price a bit and offers a tablet with the buy of the tv. without the tab the slash would be much bigger but like this they can still sell the tablet because it's going to be an interesting product to the consumer.
that's marketing and pure business not a "desperate giveaway of a tablet that doesn't sell".

Honestly, Steve Job's got such a loyal following, he can put out dog crap, and people would buy it. Then version 2.0 can be dog crap with a nice scent. I'm exaggerating of course. My point is that Steve Jobs, like nobody else gets a lot of leeway when he puts out a new product. He can put out whatever and people will buy it because its the latest Apple gadget. Tablets will ride the Apple awesomeness wave until people begin to get bored and look for something else new that Apple comes up with.

I agree with this totally, but i think he gets that kind of leeway because of the quality of products that they have put out in the past.

everyone expects the next thing to be great, until proven wrong.

if they put out one or two bad products in a row, then his "epic, until proven phony" stature will be lost.

but the products are still good so thats not going to happen

That's why so many people lined up for days to buy the G4 Cube, the Apple TV, and even the Apple Battery Charger when they came out... Wait. What?

Seriously, though, I think you are confusing correlation with causality. Apple products don't sell well because they get great PR. Apple gets great PR because they tend to put out products that people want to buy. It's the culmination of a decade's work in building an integrated platform.

Remember, the first iPod came out in October 2001. The introduction was hyped to some extent, but also a bit muted, partly intentionally because of the recentness of 9/11, and partly because it was limited to Macs at the time. I distinctly remember the early "so what?" reaction to Apple releasing an "MP3 player." However, it received critical acclaim because it was easy to use, and within a year the momentum built when the Windows version came out. I look at the introduction of iTunes for Windows a few months after that as the turning point. From that point on, Apple had both content, and a mechanism for delivering that content to a mass audience. That focus on content has been an important reason why the iPhone and iPad were able to build on the initial success of the iPod, and why others (with the notable exception of Android in the mobile space) have struggled.

Apple puts out good products, I'll give it that. But if you actually think that that alone makes Apple what it is, you're diluting yourself. A lot of money goes into Apple advertising. Those advertisements focus on Apple being hip (remember their dancing ipod commercials, or their apple computers= young guy commercial, or their casually chilling with an ipad commericials). They've managed to associate their products with being hip. The Ipad is their latest hip product, but hippiness is not long lasting and needs a refresh every few months.

So it is your belief Samsung is going to release a third Galaxy Tab 10.1 in a 10 month period, in the same market? I suppose it is possible. It also seems a lot more desperate then anyone else here thought. Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge of tablet product life-cycles. I was un-aware that the 2 month life-cycle of the first version of the Tab was normal.

So the latest iPad commercial that is mostly a baby using it makes it hip? Apple has not run either of the campaigns your describing in about 2 years (maybe more now, I am getting old).

So many people missed the transformation. iPad and iPhone commercials now just show all the things you can do on them.

I am not sure if you have seen a Xoom, Playbook, TouchPad, or Galaxy Tab commercial, they all focus on either A: Hip or B: High Tech. Not one of them focuses on what you can do. It actually is all about great products that can do stuff. That is why all these other tablets are being crushed right now. They don't do stuff.

You are a lot more delusional than anyone purchasing Apple Products. If you think the 100 million iPhones sold in the past 12 months or the 50 million+ iPads that will sell this year are all going to fan boys, you need help. It never ceases to amaze me how people will try to convince themselves of their own superiority. So now, 100 million people+ are not buying these products because they are useful, they are buying them because they worship Steve Jobs.

Good luck with that.

reviews does not equal sales!

I am indifferent from the samsung tablets, however, love Smasung TVs! I have owned 3 samsung LCDs/LEDs in a row.

I have given away my ipad and will be looking closely at the ipad3 when it is released.

My point was that, for the first couple of pages of this thread, people were dismissing it as a terrible piece of crap, because it's not made by Apple. It's a good product, but everyone on this site it too ignorant to appreciate that.

Excellent analysis. Although your first sentence is probably a little over the top for someone who doesn't have any SHIFT key experience.
but hippiness is not long lasting and needs a refresh every few months.
How do you explain that others in your haters group of Apple-is-a-marketing-company-only constantly complain about Apple taking too long between model releases? The MacPro is like ancient history to these guys, the iPhone 4 is over a year old (my god, how could anyone even cope with that!?), and the Mini is never updated often enough or high enough. (and I didn't even mention the Classic)

He meant the TV will be EOLed, not the Tab, put it right there in parentheses. I would agree with that analysis, and add that they are bundling the Tab in order to get more of them out the door because they aren't selling well. It may be a good way to get a bunch into consumers hands so they will actually try it out. Faced with the overwhelming market share of the iPad, that could be a good tactic. That's attacking two marketing issues they may have at one time. Not bad as a strategy at all.

And Hyundai was giving away iPads with car purchases. why is this news?

It's news because Hyundai's promotion was designed to sell cars, not move iPads, and getting an iPad was the incentive to buy the car. Best Buy's promotion is designed to move Galaxy Tabs, not TVs, because the Tabs aren't selling. If they wanted to move TVs, they would be including an iPad with the purchase - not a Galaxy Tab. There is a huge difference.

This week only, Best Buy's Perfect Match Promise offers customers a 16 GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with the purchase a Samsung 46" Class LED 1080p Smart 3D HDTV all for the low price of $1499.99 after savings.

Best Buy had this TV on sale for around $1,200 before they started to bundle the Galaxy Tab with it; their price mirrored the Sears pricing (or was a little less), I believe.

Relative to the Xoom yes, to the iPad no. I had the unfortunate experience of using the Xoom for a few weeks and it is a complete and total PoS. Even if there was never an iPad, the Xoom would be a PoS.

I have only spent about two hours with a tab 10.1 There were no 3rd party apps installed on the one in Best Buy. The Web Browser crashed opening this web site, but once it came back it seemed all right. The browser feels slower than the iPad browser. The widgets are actually pretty good in Honeycomb, but widgets alone are not going to move tablets, and that really is all they have.

The real problem with it, is why would I buy it. I just spent about 5 minutes looking though the tablet Apps in the marketplace and for em there are still a lot of holes. There are also very few games designed for Honeycomb.

It is an iPad 2 clone without the supporting eco-system and a much buggier OS..

So no , it may not be a complete POS like the Xoom, but there is no reason to buy one either.

sometimes i think that some people is so eager to be right that just read things how they want to.

I did miss it the first time through, my bad.

However, statements should always stand on their own without the parenthetical information :)

Neat, people voting me down for admitting I was wrong and pointing out how we could both be helped in the future. I guess a lot of people here are fanboys (of hiding importing information in parenthesis).

Apple has already associated its products with being hip. They don't need to constantly do it anymore. Those commercials I mentioned have lodged themselves into people's minds, they were that effective. Look at how you can instantly know what I was referring to, even with my bad descriptions. And all the other companies are following suit trying to associate their product in the same way.

Are you blind or something? Many Apple buyers ditch their older apple product when the newer product comes out. This means more demand and sales because these buyers want the latest product because if you still have last year's model, you're not cool anymore.

You think that the other tablets got crushed because the Ipad is so much more superior? Superior in what way? They got crushed because Apple has the monopoly on hip. And these product(referring to tablets) are part of a tech fad that thrive on new, cool, and hip.

And if you need any evidence of fanboyism, take a look at all my posts where I do criticize Apple but I give them credit when credit is due, whereas in some other people's posts, all they do is chant how great apple products are (ahem, like stating how many products have sold, and how competitors have bombed.) BTW, fanboys refer to people who feel a need to constantly defend Apple, and has nothing to do with people who enjoy Apple products.

If this is correct, and I have no reason to doubt you, the tablet is about $100 off in this deal, or they are increasing the discount on the tv, or whatever.

I wonder how many people would chose the tab over a $299 discount.

I'd say that a majority of my friends have iphones, and that a majority of those in turn just have one because its an iphone (i.e. Apple product). Same can be said about mac-laptops. I think that is what he is getting at. This doesnt mean that the products are bad, it just means that the Apple on the box, for many people, is the key selling point.

Superior in what way? Superior in every way. I sued an iPad2 and a Xoom side-by-side for nearly 3 weeks. The Xoom is a complete PoS, there is nothing about that is better. There is a huge advantage in available Apps. The performance is several magnitudes better then Honeycomb on the 10.1 and it is far less buggy.

Many technology buyers ditch their current product when a new one comes out. I still use a 3GS I got when they are new. It is actually the longest I have owned a phone. I keep using it because it holds up better than any phone I have had. It still has excellent battery life. I use my MacBook Pros for 4 years. They still work great at the end, but technology progresses and I like to try and keep up. Barring some significant technological change, I suspect I will use my iPad 2 for 3 years.

A lot of Apple fans do change out gear for the new models because the resale value on most of it is very high (relative to the rest of the industry anyway), so it is often very inexpensive to upgrade to the latest technology.

It appears you are going to stick to your belief that it is all just hipster marketing. It is easier for you to accept that 100s of millions of people are deluded by hip marketing than the fact they just like something you don't.

I looked through your 15 posts and do not see you giving them credit for anything but marketing. No where do you give them any credit for making any decent products, in fact it is quite the opposite. Since we have room here, lets take a look:

Your first post..

Its amusing to see the smirks on apple fanboys' faces after reading this article stating naively that "PCs can't compete with the the air's price" or the more laughable "Apple is superior to a pc in technology."

What they don't understand is that this ultrabook is a first gen product so the cost is going to higher initially. Like all tech, once its its been out a while, the price will go down. If you think back to the first gen macbook air, it was essentially an overpriced netbook, poor performance, high price, very little value except that it was thin and compact (but you can get the same with a ultraportable.) Now several gens later, look at the air. It actually performs great, and its a great value for what it offers. This first gen ultrabook currently campares on par with the macbook air price wise, performance wise, and design wise (by the way, it looks exactly like the air, so I don't get the people that don't like the look because it doesn't have the apple logo.)

One more thing, please, please stop thinking that apple is superior to pcs technologically. Its ridiculous and not remotely true. They all use mostly the same hardware, supplied mostly by the same manufacturers. Cpus from Intel mostly, graphics from Nvidia or ATI, hdd from one of the many oem companies, most of which are the same performance wise.

Nope, nothing positive about Apple in there. You do like calling people fan boys.

So? So do the majority of your friends have these iPhones because they have an overwhelming desire to be hip? The fact they bought an iPhone because it is an iPhone is somewhat self-evident...

Did they see what other people can do with their iPhones and decide they want one? Did they see other people walking around with their iPhones and go , oh I want to look like that.

So you agree with his delusion, and you believe the iPad is not a quality product and people only think it is because Apple used to make quality products? I agree that your theory is even crazier than his.

Ive had both ipads and they are amazingly smooth and it replaces 90% of my day to day computer use.
so i think they are of the upmost quality.

I agree that whatever apple puts out is going to be a hit with the mainstream public. It doesnt really matter what it is. I know that i'm gonna buy the next iphone and ipad no matter what changes are made cuz thats just how i feel about it.

but, I work at best buy and i know a lot of customers and employees feel the same as me. Customers come in and they wants ipads, and they have no idea what they even do. most of the public is not as informed as people on this site.

so whether its justified or not, people are gonna buy anything apple puts out until they have a couple of complete bombs. thats just how powerful their rep is right now.

It's not a Mac/Apple Story :(

Personally, I think stories like this are not MacRumor worthy.

I get excited when I need new stories on the front page but so often I'm disappointed with the content.

1) It's not directly about Mac / Apple / iOS, it's about it's competitor, it's it's not even about a new product that might give iPads a run for their money.
2) It's barely applicable for one of the blog posts in my opinion.

But I feel the same about the HP stories. The first one is news, how many more will we get.

And the fake Apple Store stories (the first one was interesting) or have the others been on the blog(?)

Samsung lawsuits and trademarks, give them their own blog :)

Same goes for the "Do you care about the competition, give them their own blog too.

Just my 2 cents,
Gary

Thought my point was self-evident, yes: they bought it because it was the thing to buy (lets call it trendy). Dont understand why people feel the need to deny this. We see it (the behavior) pretty much everywhere, and we have an entire industry dedicated at tapping into it (marketing).

Ask your mom what label of jeans that were the s-word when she was young. Then ask her if it was the s-word because of superior quality, or because it was the thing to have. My bet is on the latter.

This is a great deal! I plan on going first thing in the morning to get it. I still plan on getting the iPad 3, so having a competitor tablet can only make this combo a deal!

And I'm glad I read about this on MacRumors; otherwise, I would never had known about this deal. I've been wanting to try the 3d home system, now i can.

Its a tech toy (referring to tablets in general), whether you want to believe it or not. It doesn't offer anything new that other techs before it hasn't offered. Its a bigger screened smartphone without the phone.

You'd look silly if you had made these statements a year ago. But making them now? You look... I don't know... desperate?

So sick of the "competition is a good thing" mantra.

Competition is good when both sides are truly innovating and can bring things to the table to improve one another. The current spate of iPad competitors are not innovating anything. They are cheap knockoffs and don't offer anything apple would innovate with.

How do you figure?

Samsung is FORCING Apple to keep up with technology by including faster hardware in their products.

Currently the S2 is thinner, faster and has a better display than the iPhone. Now it's on Apple to match or beat Samsung.
