You think that the other tablets got crushed because the Ipad is so much more superior? Superior in what way? They got crushed because Apple has the monopoly on hip. And these product(referring to tablets) are part of a tech fad that thrive on new, cool, and hip.

Uhh, the iPad is superior. Uhhh "it just works." The millions and millions of people had a choice to buy Playbooks, Touch Pads, and Galaxies. But they chose iPads!!

And if you need any evidence of fanboyism, take a look at all my posts where I do criticize Apple but I give them credit when credit is due, whereas in some other people's posts, all they do is chant how great apple products are (ahem, like stating how many products have sold, and how competitors have bombed.) BTW, fanboys refer to people who feel a need to constantly defend Apple, and has nothing to do with people who enjoy Apple products.

I suppose "for people who like to focus on Apple’s relatively small number of problems, so they prefer to just brand him an 'Apple fanboy' and call it a day. All that thinking makes their heads hurt."

Theres a difference between buying a 600$ tv and getting a crappy tablet free and buying a 20,000$ car and getting a quality tablet free. :apple:

Samsung a crappy tablet?

iPad 2 = low Ram + crappy camera + heavy + fat + no Flash + crappy screen

I'd say the iPad 2 is the crappy tablet hardware wise.

Hello people, ahem fanboys, this is what we call a promotional offer. Its part of a marketing plan, not an early indication of anything. Stop looking at news through a starry eyed, apple lovestruck, tint. Its similar to Microsoft bundling the xbox 360 with Windows laptops over $800. Or the Sony bundling of a PS3 with their Sony TVs. Geez, it gets tiring dealing with people who don't think and live in their own world.

Now, with that said, I think the Samsung Galaxy won't do well at all, along with any other tablets beside the Ipad. Tablets are just the latest tech fad, for people who have extra money to blow. Tech fads don't last and is dominated by the newest and coolest out there. The market is already saturated because the people that want this toy already has one. Honestly, I don't know what these manufacturing company are thinking.

What a load of hooey. They would NEVER have this offer if these were selling on their own, period. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig! MS was and is feeling the heat from Macbook Air. Sony is sweating due to LG. These companies don't give jack squat away out of benign generosity.

You mean like Apple is giving away free iPod Touches if you buy a Mac computer?

I think that bundling the xbox 360 and PS3 had more to do with giving the console away cheap to make money back through game sales.

It's not quite the same in this case... getting their 10.1 tablet better exposure (advertising) to a HDTV consumers demographic makes more sense.

There are lots of promos where you buy a TV and you get something free. This is a common tactic when manufacturers are about to drop the price on TVs.

This is a tactic to get rid of TVs. lots of clueless commenters here.

LOL. Last week I got this same tv from best buy with free blu-ray player, and 3D kit for $1099.

The next day they raised the price to $1499 with same offer. Now Sunday its same price with galaxy tab.

You understand why that happened, right? Apple released the new iPod Touch directly after the promotion, which was to clear out the excess old stock.

Ah, got it. Giving away free stuff is to get rid of excess stock that no body wants to buy, unless it's Apple giving away free iPods with laptops in the Back to School deal. Then it's a genius marketing move.

The funny part is that Apple is getting rid of excess stock with their promotion so they can release the new version, which is what you're not understanding.

Right.

Plus, you had to BUY the Touch and then submit a rebate. Which did not cover tax, and there is a percentage of people who didn't complete the rebate. Further, it was only available to people who qualified for the "Back to School" promotion.

So to say that Apple "gave away" an iPod Touch is not correct.

Samsung typically releases its new HDTV models for the year in the US starting about mid-February through May. I found this out when researching for the two I eventually bought last year.

Unless Samsung plans to change its MO, it seems somewhat premature this being only the end of August. Besides, they'll want to wait until CES to unveil them. Unless, of course, you're intimating that the TVs are not selling well, and right now they are the market leader.

You think the TVs in question are the same price today when they were first released?

And samsung is surely not bringing out a new series of TVs, right? (Ignoring the fact that it is Best buy who runs the campaign, and not Samsung, afaik.)

This is not a "hdtv" though, but a 3d (hd)tv. Apparently these things sell quite poorly in Europe. I wouldnt be surprised if the same thing holds for America. Considering the size of these babies its really not something you want to keep in stock. (Luckily for the seller they have huge margins, which allow for profitable so called sweet deals).

When i bought my tab 10.1 (for android development playing) about a week after it's launch in June at a best buy here in NYC .. I accidentally picked up the wrong color (it's not that clearly labeled on the packaging) .. went back to return it for the right color, and the sales guy at the largest best buy here in the city was saying they were getting about 20 returns a day on the tab 10.1 - they had tons of stock everywhere I went, and the ipad 2 was still being sold out.

First video I made on it was a great one .. my 2yo son complaining about it and saying he wanted the apple ipad instead .. he uses it now for all the free angry birds releases (they gave these away on the tab as well) .. but i say that if it's apparent to a toddler - I think the average consumer without biased blinders can spot the difference in about 30s as well.

First off, Apple no longer offers this. :(

Second, this is an entirely different circumstance.

How? They are both incentives for buying a big ticket item.

A student shopping for a computer
or
A consumer shopping for a TV

Pretty similar if you ask me.

I guess. I just don't view a tablet and TV as the same as the iPod + Mac deal. Not to mention, the Galaxy Tab is far more expensive.

Far more expensive?

An iPod Touch with decent storage goes for over $400... Not very far off from the Tab's asking price.

An iPod is a portable extension of the media capabilities of the Mac. I'll give you that.

But the Tab could be considered a portable extension of the TV.

Anyway, in the end, the 10.1 is a fantastic tablet, and anyone getting this deal will probably be more than happy.

When Apple offered the promo, the free iPod was the low-end 8GB Touch, worth $229. See?

True. In 2008 when I bought mac, I opted for the 32GB an had to pay the difference. It was a $300 rebate that year.

I forgot how stingy Apple has become over the years...

Anyway, no one here is arguing the fact that iPad is outselling the Tab, but no one knows the real reason behind Best Buy bundling the Tab with the TV. Maybe Best Buy makes more money off the Tab and therefore has more leverage?

iPad is in stock everywhere, so supply isn't the issue...

Not to mention that legitimately was clearing out inventory of a 10 month old product two months before a refresh. Both these TVs and the Galaxy Tab came out in June.

Not inspiring confidence about 3D or the tablet.

Yes, I forgot about that. It was still a promotion, but it was being used to clear out old inventory.

From Apple's 2010 Back to School promotion terms & conditions: "Please be advised that Apple announced new iPod models on September 1, 2010. These new iPod models are NOT ELIGIBLE for the Back to School promotion. Rebate claims submitted in conjunction with these new products will not be honored."

I think it's just an incentive for consumers to buy one of Samsung's 3D TVs. The whole 3D thing has never really taken off anyway...
