Hopefully those who get the pickup email and are paying off contract price can just pick the phone up. I see no reason in standing around waiting for hours while their reps activate and help people with their contract phones. Even on a good day there is always a wait to see a phone rep as they sit down at a computer with the person helping them get plans, activations, extended wnty, rewards card etc.

Anyone in SoCal get their order confirmation yet? Mine still says confirming store inventory. Also, did Best Buy require you to activate even if you get the unsubsidized price?

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

I hope this is just an isolated situation. But hey, Best Buy has done worse ;)

I'm in the Bay Area. I'm waiting as well. Hopefully we see something soon out here in the west coast. I'll order online if this fails.

I bought the phone outright , but was told it's apple's policy to activate before I leave, so I just gave in and did it. Took 20 minutes ......

Best Buy came through but not without a fight. Ordered the phone from BestBuy.com at 3:30 AM after several failed attempts, got the confirmation eMail that the order was received right before 5:00 AM.

Got the "Order Ready for Pickup" around 9:20 AM, at this point is was actually pretty impressed since I thought they would never have enough in stock to offer launch-day pickup.

Drove down to the store at 10:00 AM and told them I was there to pickup an online order, the sales rep asks for model & capacity then goes to check a closet that says "Online Orders". She comes back two minutes later saying that they only got 2 64GB AT&T Gray and that they were both gone. I told her that it didn't make any sense since my card was already charged and I had just received an eMail stating that my phone was ready for pickup. So I asked to speak to a manager.

Sales rep goes to talk to the manager, checks back in the closet then tells me that there's one phone there on hold with the specs that I wanted but with a ZAGG shield pre-installed by Best Buy Mobile, I tell her that that phone was mine but I was not willing to pay for the ZAGG screen protector. She said no problem and then proceeded with the activation. The only drawback is that she mistakenly created a new order, so now I have to cancel the order I had placed online.

Overall, not a great experience but I got the phone I wanted without having to wait in line, so I'm a happy camper. :)

Good luck everyone!

Has anyone walked out with a phone without them forcing you to activate? I bought a full price Verizon version but I'm planning to use it with my preexisting T-Mobile SIM.

My order is ready for pickup but I'm wondering if I should even bother heading down there.

Just got my order is ready for pick up email, Best buy doesn't open until 10:00AM MDT, so I'm hoping to show up a little early so I can be one of the first to get it activated.

^^they told me it was corporate policy not to let phones leave the store without activation, "especially iPhones".

^I would suggest trying to book an appointment via the email they sent you. The first available appointment when I got to my store at 10:05AM was 3:30PM.

I've purchased 2 off-contract phones from BB in the past and both times did not have to activate before I left, but they were not iPhones. Each time, I did have to deal with the BB Mobile people, not regular customer service, though, so I can see them requiring you to wait in the line with the other iPhones customers.

The Apple store today on Fifth Avenue was insane! Glad I ordered my 5S and will wait to have it shipped in october. From what I heard only the first few people in line were able to get gold iphone 5s for verizon. These people had been camped out for weeks and were sponsored by the iphone buyback company buybackworld

When I tried to schedule an appointment online I received the following message:

"Our online appointment scheduling is currently unavailable and will resume on Monday, Sept. 23."

Same. I'd really be annoyed if they didn't let me buy the phone without activation since the store is like 40 minutes away and I'm paying full price.

I feel like as the closer you get to the end of the day the more likely this corporate policy may be able to bend a bit.

Ordered space gray 64 for pick up in West LA (the one on Pico) on Friday. Is this legit? Can it be?

After I placed the BB order I Went to Apple store app and used same phone info and it still shows discounted price of $399. Looks like the order with Best Buy, whether legit or not, did not effect my eligibility for reduced price through Apple.

For those who made the order did you receive. Confirmation email? Text? Nothing?

I did the same thing. But now it is showing that my order number is invalid. Did yours work?

Quick Best Buy question. I didn't preorder and went to a few stores after work (I work 12 hour night shifts) and ended up finding a 32 GB Grey at Best Buy. I ended up scheduling an appointment at 5 PM today to pick it up.

For those of you that have gone to these appointments, how long can I expect the whole process to take? I have to be out of there by 6 or 6:10 at the latest to get to work. If it's going to take longer than an hour then I'll just say forget it and wait a few days or order online.

Ordered a 64gb gold last night, still says "in process" i thought they open at 0800? im in SD btw.

Any westcoast guys get pick up emails yet?

Which socal store you purchasing from?

Only the standard "we received your order"

Thought I'd be able to pick it up at 8. Wish I could cancel as there is a radioshack right down the street.

Ordered from the Tustin store.

Not yet. Ordered mine for PU at the Montebello store. Assuming/Hoping it will be around 10AM.

For anyone wondering, I sent the Best Buy holding my reservation a message via the TalkTo app, asking if in-store activation is required. Here's what they wrote:

"Sorry it has to be activated in the store. Have a good one!"

I asked them if they're willing to activate by popping in my preexisting SIM. I'll let you know what they say.

Same here. Online status shows confirming store inventory. Last night's email from Best Buy says to wait to pick up my order. Fingers crossed my local BestBuy will have an iphone for me today.

Looks like I didn't know Best Buy would do in-store, and now the options been taken away. :(

Judging by the website's "Find in Store," there are still a good number of stores with some stock around me, but that's only if their availability is current, which I somehow doubt..

I just went in to my local Best Buy to see if they had the new dock. They did not. I asked how things went and he said they were still selling phones. He said you aren't going to get a gold one, but he said he has pretty good supply of both white and gray, depending on your carrier. This was in Auburn Hills, MI for anyone interested.

But I'm not even seeing the "Order for pick-up" option anymore. I'm from SD.

Ordered mine last night as soon as possible after it went live--set for store pickup with a store that had inventory. Just got a message saying there is a delay with my order and that it could be 30 days.
