only down side so far is that my battery case won't work with the 5S. Swapped my iphone 5 back in and worked right away.

Using a maxboost fusion snap/hybrid case. Thanks Apple.

I just got back from picking up my online order at BB. They had my order set aside and tried to release it to me but was having issues. The lady said that their website was supposed to start online pickup orders at 10am today, instead of midnight. So they had to cancel my order and ring me up as normal.

They even let me go with the phone without them activating it (I paid full price) since they had a bunch of people waiting.

Got my ready for pickup email at 9:20 this morning and at 11:45 got a call from the manager at the store saying there was a glitch and they actually sold the phone I wanted and so I would get the first 32GB gold they get in and a $50 gift card. Such a buzz kill.

This was exactly the story I got from the manager at my Best Buy (King of Prussia PA).

They had to cancel my online order and sell me the phone from their current stock.

This was at 8:30 this morning... there were a total of 4 people at the Best Buy ahead of me when I rolled up at 8:10 - one of whom left when he found out they had no gold phones.

The manager there was REALLY very helpful, as was the Best Buy mobile associate.

Corporate Best Buy can't seem to get their act together, but with helpful store personnel like the KOP store, I will still shop there.

I had ordered the 16GB ATT Space Gray (the most common model) so I was pretty sure I could get one and it worked out well... I didn't have to deal with the mob scene at the KOP Apple Store - a couple of refugees from that line came over while I was waiting - about 8:30 - and said that there were no high capacity and no silver or gold left within a few minutes at the Apple Store.

I traded in my previous spare phone (ATT 16GB iPhone 4) with Best Buy for $145 - $15 more than the Gazelle offer I locked in two weeks ago, and I had the $50 upgrade offer on my line from the February deal, so I was out the door with charges of only $5.29 - no hard sell on warranty, case or other accessories. And now my 2 year old 4S becomes my spare phone.

As for the phone itself, I LOVE the 5s. Touch ID works great. I like having the extra screen real estate of the 4" screen, and it is so FAST - both in terms of overall feel of the device and it is great having LTE finally.

I couldn't be happier right now with how today has turned out.

SF harrison street a joke. Got my email saying it was ready for pickup. Got there 9:55am only about 12 people at the door. They all scattered and I was the first to the mobile phone line. There were already customers being helped. They told me they didn't have my phone. I got into it with 2 managers and there was nothing they could do. They had given out numbers earlier in the morning and made appointments for people all day. He gave me $20 out of the register for my trouble. Sure enough I checked my spam filter and there was a canceled email sent 9:18 shortly after my pickup email saying they didn't have it and my order was canceled. This is very typical crap from Best Buy.

Ordered last night, picked up this afternoon. Got a 64GB AT&T Space Grey. Even though I purchased it outright, they did not activate it (they tried to, but since I purchased it online, they couldn't use their activation system to sell it... or something)

Unfortunately, I could not get them to price match AT&T... I am going to try some of the other BBs in the area and try my luck. If I find a 64gb at an AT&T store, I may just return the BB one. I haven't opened it yet.

According to the Best Buy employee I was talking to, we were even supposed to be able to order these for pick up... I was one of two that got an order through to pick up... A 32GB Space Gray Verizon 5s

I ordered last night @ about 11:30 PST and got a 32gb ATT Gold....Store pickup.

Got the email this morning stating my order was ready for pickup. Showed up at 10am. They had my phone but I had to wait in a small line to pick it up. the manager told me it was a glitch in the system, but still held the phone for me. I ordered it off contract. 15mins later I walked out with my phone.

The mobile manager was telling everyone else in line that they were not selling phones off contract. He told me I was "really super lucky" to be able to get one off contract as well as catch "the glitch" in the system.

Did they force you to activate?

Big thanks to the OP! Completely stunned how smoothly it went. Got to BB, had my two phones waiting for me with my name on them. Short wait to get activated and out I was...amazing!

Were you able to get them to price match? Or were you okay paying an extra $50.

One of the guys here at work took a chance and walked to the Best Buy less than a block from us. To his surprise there was no line and he walked out with his new 5S within minutes. The salesperson said they were jammed for the first two hours after opening, then traffic died down.

Did anyone happen to see the Apple iPhone 5s Leather Cases in stock? I didn't see any at my best buy. Not sure if they sold out or not carrying them.

Ordered a 32gb black AT&T 5s at 3 a.m. this morning. Received the confirmation email shortly after and then the ready for pick-up email. When I went into the store, they are no record of any online orders and were completely sold out of the 5s. Luckily, another guy was returning the exact model I ordered when I arrived at the store. They just resold me his. What a mess...

Did they force you to activate?

Nope! According to the manager, had I not ordered last night off contract, they would not have even sold me the phone in store without signing up for one.

No price matching, I would need to return tomorrow to do it

None at my BB. I stopped in the Apple store right near & picked up there

Just picked mine up. $199 plus 50 buck gift card. Used giftcard for case zagg combo for $29, plus $25 iTunes gift card. I paid difference. Great deal.

What was the gift card for?

Not sure if my case is the same, but I signed up at the end of last year with Best Buy that if I upgrade any of the numbers I gave them I get a $50 gift card. It is a promotion they have been running every year. It is a pretty good deal.

I hadn't heard anything back yet from my Best Buy order yet, so I called the main number. I'm told the store is out of stock and might get more next week. I ordered about 15 minutes before they stopped taking in store pick up orders completely. Glad I got an Apple order in too right after midnight. Will probably try the Apple Store later too.

Hoping that doesn't happen to me. Can't stop by until 6

So when I was on the phone with the Best Buy store where I preordered at full price, they told me I would be forced to activate it there even though I purchased at full price with no contract. So I haven't gone yet to pick it up. Instead I contacted Best Buy support via Twitter to help get some clarification. The image shows what they said. Think if I show that to the manager, they'll let me just buy w/o activating?

Just came back!, kind of a delay. There was a glitch in their systems and it wouldn't let them release it because I bought it outright (no contract) They were able to override everything and I walked away with my new gold 64gb.

On a side note went to apple store to get apple care plus and the leather case, holy crap there were so many people outside waiting to get their hands on a 5s.

All in all Best Buy came through. Much thanks to the OP for starting this thread. Would have never known about the best buy order.

Picked up my iPhone 5S from the Fort Lauderdale Best Buy (Federal/Oakland Park) without any issues. Even picked up an additional 64gb model (AT&T) on another line that they had received this morning. Saw alot of people asking for the gold model and alot asking for the 5C.

That is such a bummer. I feel for you. We have quite a few of these kind of horror stories with every launch.

Anybody who got a gold one today was pretty lucky. They were finer than hen's teeth today. :D
