Just picked up from the Redondo Beach (SoCal) best buy mobile store.

Absolutely empty although they did have some lines earlier and expected people in for evening appointments...

Store still has a few phones left although

Anyone getting the $50 Price Match or Rebate off of full purchase price because Bestbuy is charging more than Apple store? I've tried to reason with them but they needed proof, however I was unable to provide because Apple.com doesn't allow Verizon iPhone 5S to be priced at Full Price

No they are not price matching. Not at the Glendale, CA store.

Got email confirmation for pickup ready at 9AM. Got email saying order got cancelled at 9:50AM. Got phone call at 10:35AM saying it was cancelled....WTF!

Good thing on the way to Best Buy I happened to pass by an AT&T store around 8AM. Noticed only 20 people in line so I just stopped and waited and scored a phone.

AT&T said they had a good amount of stock in space grey in all sizes (low quantity 16GB). Check your AT&T if that's what you have!

Any downside to getting it from BB instead of an AT&T store or an Apple store?

Spent my lunch hour canvasing stores after finding out the Best Buy order wouldn't actually be filled today. Hit paydirt on my fifth stop:

Walmart
Best Buy (another store)
Target
AT&T Store
Radio Shack--BINGO.

16GB Spaceman, about 15 minutes out the door, just canceled my Best Buy order over the phone.

It always amazes me that if you are content with whatever is "common" (usually the low memory black version) then you can probably find one walk-in on launch day without too much fuss. The bigger capacities and the "cool" colors seem more scarce. I was definitely tempted by the silver this time around but the prospect of having it today was too much to pass up--and the space gray does actually look wicked cool, even moreso than the black 5. I love the silverish details around the headphone jack and lightning port.

Just spoke to a Best Buy rep online and apparently if you're on a grandfathered data plan like I am, you are not able to keep that if you do it through them and will have to go to your carrier store instead to keep it. Maybe he was just being a douche.

Ya...the $50+Tax higher price vs Apple Store

Asked him about this as well and he said he had no idea what I was talking about.

In CA it would be the Sales Tax. As BB doesn't seem to have a handle on what that should truly be. Otherwise if you are trying to buy off contract at full price be prepared to pay $50 more then other places.

I just finished getting a phone via BB and pointed out a couple things to them. First was why they are charging $899.99 for the 64GB model vs. the MSRP of $849.99 that everyone else seems to be doing. Secondly why is the Sales Tax on the device that shows up on the receipt not line up to being mathematically correct based on a 9% sales tax rate in Los Angeles County, CA. The receipt states $90.16 which equals 10.018% whereas if you were to do this via Apple direct you would only be charged $76.41 which is slightly below 9%. Someone else mentioned that Verizon was charging the same amount.

The Apple Consultant...the one that is in the Black shirt supporting all the Apple products said that it should be 18% in CA based on the sales price on the receipt which doesn't jive with Apples own fine print on their own ordering page that states "In CA and RI, sales tax is collected on the unbundled price of iPhone". If this were the case then based on $399.99 this should have equaled $72. I can't find anything that supports this, but supposedly this just went in to affect in CA yesterday from what they were saying and what they were quickly supposedly looking up. Even California State Board of Equalization's own site doesn't appear to support this and is more in line with what Apple and others are charging Sales Tax wise.

I ordered in store pickup yesterday for the black 32gb without contract (full price) at the BestBuy in Pico Los Angeles. Got a notification saying it was ready to pick up and called the store just to make sure it was ready.

I got to the store and the manager told me that he wasn't allowed to sell me the phone without activation since it was a "new release and that there was a glitch in the system." He wouldn't sell me the phone until I started calling Bestbuy's 1800 number. Wasted half an hour of my time until he finally let me buy it.

I was about to cuss him out lol.. I would advise anyone not to go to the Bestbuy located in Pico Los Angeles to avoid the headache...

The guy I talked to when I picked up my phone said the same thing, however because I had ordered it online with in-store pickup it wasn't a problem.

It sounds like experiences varied a good deal depending on location just from this thread. Everyone at the store had apparently been pretty surprised to see pickup orders when they came in since there weren't supposed to be any, and one person I talked to mentioned that he'd been keeping track of the reserved stock to make sure no one was selling it to walk-ins. I can imagine that this could have played out very differently depending on who was in charge.

In my case I got my phone in about 15-20 minutes (there was a small line, some walk-ins and a couple other online orders). So thanks to the OP for pointing this out last night. Unfortunate for those whose orders got canceled/delayed/otherwise messed up, but at least your upgrades are still available (until you actually activate the new phone you'll still be upgrade eligible).

Did anyone preorder and pick it up while there were still people in line waiting?
I would be super ticked off if I waited all night just to find out they had preorders. But all is fair in love and iPhone war.

I had no problem. I walked in and told him that I already had a SIM card and they gave it to me for full retail without any account info. Funny thing is one block down people were lining up at the Apple store. I was in and out in 5 minutes at Best Buy haha.

Just curious, why do people not want to activate in store?

For me it's because I don't have any intentions on upgrading my plan, buying any services, or any add-ons. I just want the phone with all the same stuff I had before.

Problem is that they're salespeople, and their job is to upsell. So we're trying to avoid that.

Just picked up my iPhone 5s 16gb gray for Verizon! Extremely satisfied with best buy! Thanks OP for letting me know!!!

SF harrison street a joke. Got my email saying it was ready for pickup. Got there 9:55am only about 12 people at the door. They all scattered and I was the first to the mobile phone line. There were already customers being helped. They told me they didn't have my phone. I got into it with 2 managers and there was nothing they could do. They had given out numbers earlier in the morning and made appointments for people all day. He gave me $20 out of the register for my trouble. Sure enough I checked my spam filter and there was a canceled email sent 9:18 shortly after my pickup email saying they didn't have it and my order was canceled. This is very typical crap from Best Buy.

That sucks. I ordered 2 gold from the Brentwood store and was able to get both without a problem. They had them set aside for me.

Avoid Best Buy at all costs if you're buying an off contract phones. Only $50 more than Apple is pretty good for them. They usually charge around $150 more than carriers and manufacturers for Android phones. I recently bought an off contract S4 and had to talk to three people (employee, mobile manager, and store manager) to get them to price match AT&T. The store manager had to call corporate before he would approve it. When I walked out of the store with the phone I could hear the mobile manager talking about all the money they lost because they sold the phone to me for less than they paid for it.

Wow where do I start and how to make TLDR friendly?

Ordered 64GB gold from BB with instore pickup at 12:10am

Went to Beverly Center at 3:45am to wait in line, 60th or so.

After the first 10 people went in and got phones, they announced all gold and 64GB all color and carrier sold out.

Ended up with a space gray 32GB and am bummed.

Walking out of apple I get email from BB that gold 64gb ready for pickup!

Get to BB they tell me sorry, its a mistake no phone for you! I argue, throw a fit, call corp and ended up with my 64gb gold AND a $50 BB gift card for my troubles!

Get home to setup gray phone for wife, realize apple sold me a VERIZON phone, I'm on ATT... bought the phone full price so no activation in store.

Call apple tell them what happened but they have ZERO phones.

Apple rep says the next 64GB phone is mine :)

Long crazy day, but I ended up with the 64GB white and I will have another 64gb for the wife hopefully soon.

Picked up my iPhone 5S from the Fort Lauderdale Best Buy (Federal/Oakland Park) without any issues. Even picked up an additional 64gb model (AT&T) on another line that they had received this morning. Saw alot of people asking for the gold model and alot asking for the 5C.

Interesting! That's the same store I would have done it at. I saw they had stock but didn't want to chance it lol. Congrats on your purchase! I got what I wanted at Apple Aventura!

You can use the Verizon phone on AT&T no problem, just put your AT&T Sim in. It has all the LTE bands for AT&T and full GSM radios.
