Haha! Yeah. My buddy and I have this debate fairly often. But I suppose this is the benefit of market research: Apple knows that there are two camps...and they capitalize on both!

So I used the link, reserved 7+ MB 128GB and just picked it up! I was able to use my normal verizon subsidized plan. Super easy!
As long as you are upgrade eligible, you can use Next. However, if you are in a Next Contract and not sufficiently paid off, it won't work.
You DO NOT need to join IUP in order to purchase the phone. My AppleStore didn't even ask my phone number. One credit card swipe and I was out.
Yup. I reserved via IUP link, then walked in to the store, and just bought a 7+ black 256 GB outright. That was MUCH easier than I expected it to be! I was ready for a long battle with issues activating, etc. but thankfully none of that happened.
So just to verify. We do NOT have to sign up for the iPhone upgrade program after reserving? I can reserve with IUP then go in and upgrade using my Verizon installment plan?
The specialist I bought the phone from basically sold it to me as equipment only. They seemed very lax about it--although he was very surprised they had a black Plus in stock! I just got lucky I guess and checked that IUP reservation link at the right time.
Best Buy has once again cemented themselves as the worst. They straight up lied to us - multiple times - and more than likely will continue to do so to whomever in this thread hasn't already canceled their orders...and even doing that was difficult. I got lucky this morning and used the IUP link posted previously and secured a 256GB Matte Black 7 Plus. I canceled BB last night hoping this week would see additional stock availability and honestly it took all of 15 seconds for my AT&T upgrade eligibility to pop back so if some of you want to hold out hope that Best Buy will come through and a better option comes along in the meantime, other than the pain in the ass that it is to get someone on the phone to actually cancel your order, you shouldn't have any troubles.
I would like to add that after reading many forums on this I wouldn't neccessarily blame the stores or carriers.. in the end this is Apple's fault as even through their reservations site they are the ones who clearly screwed the shipments to all these companys.... let alone all the tax cases they have going on... I love Apple do not get me wrong but ultimately I think they are the ones to blame for this screw up
While ultimately this is Apples fault they did advised that they were gonna have low supply. But in the end it's also Best Buy's fault for taking on so many pre-orders without knowing how many they were going to receive and for allowing the amount of pre-orders without changing the delivery date. One thing is to say by launch date and then changing the delivery date to November. To delay one or two weeks is understandable but 2 months is ridiculous.
Was able to pick up a black 7+ 128gb from the Apple store yesterday after reserving one at 8am. Guy at the store asked if i wanted to buy it outright or sign up for the upgrade program. In and out in under 10 minutes.
I already canceled my Best Buy order, wonder if that $100 code will still work. There's nothing from them that I want though

Well that certainly saves me some time on the phone. Much more likely that I'll find one at Apple before Best Buy would have ever delivered.
