Smaller screen then the competition, less features then the competition, defective native apps (ie maps) and now substandard parts and finishes ......

This will be the last successful iPhone launch. The competition has finally passed the iPhone.

Sorry, but you are wrong. We all know Apple will still continue to be successful, as will their phones and tablets. They've successfully recovered from mistakes in the past...

Apple will offer free cases as the band-aid. Once maps gets fully functional, it will blow away Google maps.

apple makes such beautiful phones, shame you have to put them into thick, ugly cases to stop them from looking trashed after a few weeks. I can't remember the last time I saw an iPhone that was out of a case.

Keep paying those Apple premiums!
You have a point about the cases (shame to cover them up) but I see naked iPhones all the time. Most of the ones I see while in public are in cases but I see plenty of brave people using the phones without a case.:apple:

Excellent post. It is quite possible to make a most durable anodized finish. And I'd venture to guess that Apple makes more profit per unit than Ruger or S&W.

oh yeah, that's a given on the profit margin. Ruger's are made 100% in the USA

i'm truly curious to see how extensive Apple's process is beyond their promo video. after all, according to the video it was designed by Bob Mansfield and not Foxconn (unless he took all of the credit)

Was it the outer band and/or the rear?

The rear, think my g/f took a pic of it, if she did I'll post it up. Phones scratch that's why I loved the glass back, it seemed a little tough and more resistant.... I never buy rev.A products whether its cars, phones, computers etc. Let the great unwashed test them for me :)

Shorter comments... or at least some spacing!!

See how much easier this is to read?

I get bored!

That is all.

(This is a joke)

Scratching is inevitable, but having a contrasting colour underneath is enough to warrant using another material. All the components have been fitted into the shell too, so not easy to change.

This is really poor considering the price.

completely agree. I will actually visit an apple store in a few days to see what condition the black iPhones are in. It might give an early indication at long term durability.

Somebody just needs to come up with an article outlining that suitable materials for mass production have their weaknesses.

Alluminum = can bruise, scratch, dent (still the most durable IMHO)
Plasitc = can bruise, scratch significantly, crack
Glass = easily shattered, more resistant to scratches, but not completely

Too bad titanium isn't cheap or easy to work with.

I think its pretty simple really. If you drop things often... get a case. If you don't drop phones ever, you're a winner. I have never dropped my 4 or 4S in 2 years. But, accidents can happen. I let my phone go nekkid because I like it better that way and Ill accept the smaller risk I have. My brother on the other hand blew up 4 screens and 2 back panels on his iPhone 4. I also, made a killing replacing screens and backplates on the side. To be fair though, I also replaced a ton of Android screens as well.

I always wonder what the point of cases is. If you're paying for great industrial design, show it off! Personally if you can't think of your iPhone as disposable then you probably can't afford it.

Would love to wait for some experiences saying that the white one is better. But I have to decide NOW between black and white.

Isn't there already something like a bumper case for iPhone 5? I love the Apple bumper case of my iPhone 4.

White is subject to brassing. Aluminum is matte, but gets shiny with light use.

Looks freakin wierd.

:(

All told, I am still considering getting a 5, maybe in a month or two when they get their act in order, and I'll be going with the white again since that seems to be only color that will hold up.

Shame, the black looked sleek.

Humans...

Seriously. Asking the question "Who does that kind of stuff" is dumb.

I see dummies every day. High functioning morons. That's the society we live in...

We live in an effed up world and some jack whole scratching a phone is superfluous to me.

Only sentence ever to use both "jack hole" and "superfluous".

Unless someone took out their keys and furiously scratched the back of the phones with them

This is how I see some people.

Scratches on a $10k+ car, "well that sucks, but I'll deal with it ".

Scratches on an $200 iPhone, "OMG WTF APPLE ".

Take keys to plastic phones, they scratch too.
