If I saw the guy do that in the store I would beat the s*** out of him. I don't care if it gets me locked up too.

iPhone 6: LIQUIDMETAL

Honestly though, the glass on the 4 and 4s was pretty good against scratching contrary to popular belief that the glass was more susceptible to getting damaged.

Geez MacRumors - you took the most extreme case to focus on with this article. The main problems that most folks are actually worried about in the discussions are:

(1) Black Iphones are comming new out of the boxes aready scuffed.

(2) Black Iphones are getting scuffed from NORMAL handling with hands - not metal on metal.

Now everyone only reads "Iphone will get scuffed if you take a key to it" and will not talk about the actual problems.

Last I checked Aluminum Macbooks Scratched.. Metal Scratches, Glass breaks, the sky is blue, Roses are red and that guy is a fool.

I know a lot of people are berating the use of keys. I think the point was to illustrate that the keys in your pocket could scratch the phone. Given that there are very strong and hard scratch resistant clear coats out there Apple could have used any one of those. Ones that could hold up to pointy metal objects scratching them with force.

Personally I just use a hard case on my iPhone to protect it.

Do you know how the coat would affect the rf reception? Do you know how it would apply to the mental? Is there any issue with being anodized that would cause discoloration? How it it applied to the glass to make sure it's flush? If not applied to the glass, how can you assure it would be flush?

Just asking.

if you guys take the time to read the other thread, he says 'our' instore demos. its not as if he has strolled in to an apple store and ruined a display model. he works at Apple or another retailer

I'm the biggest apple fan/supporter there is, and for anyone who is brushing this off is wrong. My friend just text me a picture and his band is scuffed out of the box on a black one. Now I understand full we'll that your going to get scratches, but c'mon. I can only imagine in 6 months how people's phones are going to look. I absolutly loved the black one but based on this I'm going to pick up the white one. This is a prime case of life after Steve jobs. His attention to detail and his relentless pursuit of perfection could never be replaced. And I would bet my life on it that maps would have never been released. Regardless it's still the best phone/os out there and ill continue to support them

WTF. That is my first test for any phone I get. Apple rushed this phone out too fast.

/sarcasm - for those that missed it.

Seriously my first test is to hit it with a chisel and hammer to see if it's strong enough.

Obviously if you gouge it with a key it will scratch, but does the white one show scratches any less than the black one?

And it will gets finger prints on the screen when you use it. If you don't want this to happen to your iPhone, never take it out of the box.

But then it would exist as a scratched iPhone and an unscratched iPhone similtaneously.

The screen and back should be solid diamond or sapphire, even if they have to increase the price to $99,999,999 per device!

Something had to replace the yellow screen drama.

First maps, now this.

And the guy who scratched the in-store iPhone should be made to pay for it. He should've scratched his own phone.

EDIT: UPS just delivered my phone no more than two minutes ago and I can confirm that there are no scratches on mine out of the box (as others have reported to be the case with theirs).

Well then there must be no problems whatsoever. Crisis averted. Everyone go home.

LOL scuffed from hands, that's priceless

It's funny you say that because a friend and I had that very discussion yesterday and both said the same thing.
