I'm not impressed that Apple have reserved the jet black for certain storage capacities only !

What's with that !

More revenue for people wanting the new colour. :(

I'm torn. On the one hand, I'm in the upgrade program, so even if the Jet Black is a travesty, I'll only have to deal with it for a year. And since Apple put the disclaimer on their site, I doubt they will turn away Jet Black upgrades being turned in due to scratches.

On the other hand, the matte is less likely to get scratched at all, and on top of it, I need to have a case for mine at least some of the time as I use a magnetic mount in my car, so I'd at least need a case in my car because I don't want to permanently attach a sticker to the back of my phone.

So it's either get a JB and deal with putting it in/taking it out of a case and possible abrasions, or get the matte black, keep it in a case, and not worry about it. I'll probably go with the latter.

Kinda funny people keep saying the Jet Black is a fingerprint magnet. The screen is a fingerprint magnet already. Just wipe it off geez

Plan on getting Jet Black 128GB iPhone 7. Not going with the plus model this time. Also the Jet Black will be more exclusive, since it's only available on the higher capacity models and most people will be buying just the 32GB.

This Jet black is gorgeous . But I guess I will regret getting it over the matte black when I start noticing scratches... Going matte, tough decision tho.

Jet black because it will feel 'new'. I've had a grey iPhone 6 and a silver iPhone 6S+, the matte black is not much different other than being darker. I feel like the jet black would at least make it feel like a new phone, so I'm going for that one.

I don't care too much about scratches, I'll replace it for the next iPhone in a year anyway.

Definitely getting the BLACK! AllMatteEverything

Really nice to see a return of true black for the iPhone color, away from the Spay Gray they've been doing for couple years now. So, which one are you getting and why?

Black looks stealthy to me like the iPhone 5 black.
Jet black looks like it may have a problem with grease/smears, fingerprints, dust etc. BUT it could also look amazing, hard to tell from pictures. Maybe like the iPhone 4/4s black.

Wait, so jet black is more prone to scratches than 4/4S glass?

If it's the same, then great, because I managed to keep my iPhone 4 scratch-free for years.

To each their own, but I dont find the glossy black particularly "gorgeous". Its just shiny. For me that means fingerprints and scratches IRL. Even Apple themselves have released a disclaimer saying it will probably develop micro cracks. Also probably slippery. I have moved towards not using cases with my phones and for that reason the matte black is a better choice. Less finger prints, less prone to scratches and not as slippery. But still a great looking phone.

Glass usually doesnt scratch too easily. now aluminum thats been anodized and polished i am not sure. I imagine it is like a car with a thin layer of clear coat on it (I've seen that there is a coating over top somewhere). Same coating that is on the glass

Even Apple put in there website that because of use we can expect some micro-abrasions on Jet black. But for me this is not a problem.

I just want the blacker 4.7 iPhone and I don't care if it's slippery and get scratched

You'll get swirl marks on the Jet Black, similar to how you do on a car. Most things get them to be honest, I imagine all the matte colours do it's just masked by the finish.

I guess the real question is how easy it is to get a proper scratch on, one that goes to bare silver metal. In theory this is the same as the matte options too, so it should be pretty hard.

Either way I'm swinging for Matte, it just looks classier. If they'd done gloss white I'd have been very tempted.

A lot of the hands on reviewers are saying it actually has more grip than the matte so that's a plus :D I'm pretty sure the gloss is more likely to stick to your hand.

per apple website.

  1. Jet black is available in 128GB and 256GB models. The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.

Basically...if u choose jet black it will be scratched to s#/+ in a week. I was 100% gonna preorder and now I'm not so sure. Might go just black.

if apple is putting a disclaimer about jet black scratching, it's gonna scratch. And it's gonna be those little annoying wind scratches. And a lot of them. No thanks.

Apple just put that disclaimer in there to avoid 'scratch-gate'. Kind of dissapointed, I was looking forward to another 'gate'.

Anyways I'll pre-order the jet black and pick up from the store. Check both out there and switch if I want to.

Was going for Jet Black but after seeing it and how shiny it is - just looks cheap to me. Looks too much like a cheap plastic. The matte black is exactly what a black iPhone should look like IMO. It looks sharp. Dark, sexy and no issues with scratching, doesn't look cheap.

To me the regular black looks more like dull dark grey. Could never consider such a boring colour.
