I couldn't agree with you more and Apple knows that they're finally in for heavy weight bout too. I find it way too coincidental that they're finally addressing some of our issues at the same time the Storm is to be released. NOW they want to give us a tethering option and allow Orb to stream video content? NOW they want to loosen up on their radical rejection policy for the app store. They're just readying themselves for the storm. I've already halted all purchases for the iphone (apps, case, etc.) as I'm strongly assuming that I'll make the change over. And for those that want to keep complaining about the Storm's screen (before ever using it) or posting your doubts about it.....Apple's implemeting it into their notebooks - I bet you'll love it then.

Without getting into too much detail - I have a friend who works in the R&D dept for RIM that was involved with Storm project and he's been testing/using it from it's first days out of the factory. Needless to say, being in the industry, he has a BB and an iphone (probably a few), as well as a slew of other phones, and he said that it's even exceeding his expectations. RIM really put the iphone up on the chopping block with this phone, broke it down, analyzed all it's shortcommings, listened to the public's feedback (something Apple doesn't know how to do) and designed a device to take down the Goliath (or at least as best as they could under Verizon's constraints). Now I don't think anything will ever really "kill" the iphone, simply because they've marketed themselves too well and its fanbase is just too large and fanatic, but Apple will definitely be woken up with some cold water on the 21st. RIM's repeatedly proven that they know how to accomplish what they set out for and rise above, this phone's no different. They didn't invest the ammount money that they did simply to give their current fanbase a new phone...if they fail to capture a nice portion of the iphone's audience they'll see this project as a failure, and they're not known to fail.

LOL, we've heard this before, how many phones were supposed to come and knock off the iphone. From Android which is backed by Google to now the Storm, I mean some were even suggesting the Bold was supposed to come and do the job, when that failed, they've now changed it to the Storm.

Looks like the verdit is in:

Now I really got the itch. I knew they had something special when my friend told me it was tough to go back to the iphone after working with the Storm. I feel his pain - the ability to actually buy a seperate SIM card for your international calls while abroad, WORKING bluetooth, the oh so basic cut and paste, flash support, stereo bluetooth...everything else is just icing on the cake. But once you're given all that, how could you be pleased about going back to the iphone?

Wake up Apple!!!!!

No WiFi = huge deal breaker, This means 0 interaction with your network at home. So apps like the one I use to change songs on my home theater system from my iPhone when I am having a party are not possible and thats just one example of something that isnt possible.

Plus the phone doesnt even have multi-touch and acts more like a standard touch screen you will find on your run of the mill touch-based phone.

No comparison sorry. It made a good attempt. Why dont they match the iPhone feature for feature if they truly want to compete its not hard..

Start with the same screen atleast..

It depends on what features are important to you. Storm has many that the iPhone doesn't have.

Such as proper handling of multiple email accounts from multiple email systems without overwriting of your personal contacts list, etc.

Bluetooth A2DP which iPhone should have had a year ago.

Cut and paste!

MMS

Etc.

oh no, you have to get up to change a song. its the end of the world.

i guess your home theater system doesnt have a remote. that must suck. you havent even used the phone so you cant say anything. they dont need to match any of the features. its a blackberry. they're not stupid they've been making phones for a long time.

it has more useful features that you'll actually use instead of gimmicky ones like the iphone.

Really?? In the commercial it looks much thicker. I still don't think I'd consider it. It doesn't have the App Store and it does have the RIM software. I'd also hate to have Verizon.

it looks thicker because its not as tall. it has alot of more useful features then the iphone though.

I guess it depends on what you are using it for. I'm not using it for business. Don't get me wrong, I do like Blackberry's, but I wouldn't consider getting one.

Right but he doesn't give a damn about those features and the iphone also has features the storm has, every one phone has its plus and minuses.

Another thing to consider. The Rimm Curve has some of the highest radiation
levels around. If you're at all concerned about the cancer question, check
out how the Storm is before you buy it.

Dimensions show it is a half mm thicker.

Don't forget this is the same place where posters have claimed that Apple's intel processors and/or ram run faster than "PC" parts. Magic Steve powers and whatnot.

But that pales in comparison to some of the fanboyism in this subforum and even thread. :p

In that case Motorolla are wiping the floor since they're one of the oldest phone manufacturers :p

But to the thread - I'd rather go for an iPhone still. One of my old uni friends just got a Storm and it didn't seem to operate as smooth as my iPod Touch, so I'm guessing it's not as smooth as an iPhone either. Plus as others said I can't connect to my home network. As somebody with a 300gb media collection I like to access my iTunes library from anywhere within my house, plus it acts as a great remote.

Guess you also like getting up and changing TV channels?

Lakaiordie,

I was just using this as an example of a network based app that came to mind, i am a long time blackberry user ( owned pearl & curve )

Yes my home theater does have a remote but the range doesnt work totally outside like my wifi remote.

Again this was just one example, Why coudlnt they give it the same touchscren the iphone has? The problem is the iphone set the standard with the touch-abilities it has.

I am not disagreeing with what it doesnt have I agree there ie: mms/cut paste etc as these work great on the Blackberry.

Not sure what you mean.

The Storm has a capacitive touchscreen, so it's just as silky feeling. However, it also went further in touch technology and added the ability to actually click the screen down. This allows the user to easily differentiate between navigation and actions.

Extremely clever, really. Apple is doing the same with their latest laptop touchpads.

More accurately, it has a SIM card slot, it doesn't come with a SIM card because Verizon doesn't use them. A SIM can only be used internationally. You can't use a SIM from a US-based provider in it.

Not exactly true. I have a verizon world phone, which came with a SIM card. That doesn't mean Verizon uses the SIM card, but it does come with one for when you travel.

This is one important feature really lacking on the Storm --- NO WI-FI --- only 3G.

I think this is becoming a more common thing with SmartPhones. It I just looked at the Samsung Espresso and it's the same deal; no wifi.

Maybe it's to get people to use the 3g network more so they can charge more?

hate verizon
hate no wifi (battery reasons)
hate push in screen technology (lots of mechanical problems will be presented and extra effort to push the screen down is unnecessary)
dislike the interface of HUGE icons
limited amount of apps
smaller screen (i think)
bad syncing on my mac (i shouldn't have to pay for missing sync)

some things are bad about the iPhone, but if i were to get a blackberry, it would be the BOLD and definitely not the STORM.

OK, but I was referring to the Storm when I said it doesn't come with a SIM card. Because it doesn't. So it is exactly true.

i want a blackberry storm but i dont want to switch over to verizon, so i'll stay, but im still not getting an iphone.. for some reason, dont ask why

No wifi = no storm for me.

Plus, the interface doesn't seem to work as well as the iPhone's. it seems choppy and clunky.

Sure there are some features the iPHone can use, but right now, it has everything I need. Every time I pick mine up, I'm still amazed by it.

Apple innovates - the rest duplicate.

I'm eager to try out the Storm for myself. I grow more tired of the iPhone with every passing day, and being back on Verizon would be heavenly. So we'll see.
What a difference a day makes! After AT&T started having major 3G problems in my area, resulting in calls and texts not getting to my phone, I have decided that I've had enough of AT&T and I will be switching back to Verizon and getting the Storm. I will miss the iPhone, but I service reliability is #1 for me, and AT&T can't provide that for me.

Evev12 made some excellent points in his/her posts (sorry, dont know which it is).

I was an iPhone user but had to go with Verizon a few weeks ago, not by my choice. I currently have a Voyager, what a piece of crap this thing is. The sales guy seriously tried to say it was "like the iPhone." Whatever dude. Im getting a Storm next friday and hoping it is "like the iPhone." Loved my iPhone, but cant use it, so hoping to have something similar to it.

Alot of fanboy-ism in this thread like usual. People bashing the Storm without ever even laying a finger on the thing.

Not sure why you guys are quick to down something you have never used, but applaud Apple when they are doing the same thing.

Exactly

It has NO WiFi!!! Does anybody else other than me and "linsam" care about this?

I cannot fathom why they didnt include wifi either. Thats just ridiculous for a "smartphone", especially in 2008. I could understand it in 1998, but not now. I asked a guy at VZ about this and he said "why would people pay for data service if it had wifi?" Apparently he thinks the entire country is blanketed in wifi coverage

Ill be happy to give a side-by-side FAIR comparison next week, although Im sure there will already be plenty of threads that do that before I do.
