Am I the only one that absolutely *loves* typing on the iPhone?

I'd take it over a clickable touch screen everyday. It will just serve to slow my typing speed down.

I'd like to give it a shot and play with it, but I don't understand the complaints against the iPhone's keyboard. I'm faster and more accurate than I've ever been on any phone, with or without physical keys.

I had a Blackberry for about 2yrs before the iPhone. Even after a year and a half with the iPhone I had problems. I am/was constantly backing up to fix typos. I could type circles around myself on a BB (with physical keys) vs the iPhone. Ill be curious to see how the Storm touch screen typing compares with the iPhone.

Evev12 made some excellent points in his/her posts (sorry, dont know which it is).

I was an iPhone user but had to go with Verizon a few weeks ago, not by my choice. I currently have a Voyager, what a piece of crap this thing is. The sales guy seriously tried to say it was "like the iPhone." Whatever dude. Im getting a Storm next friday and hoping it is "like the iPhone." Loved my iPhone, but cant use it, so hoping to have something similar to it.

Alot of fanboy-ism in this thread like usual. People bashing the Storm without ever even laying a finger on the thing.

Exactly

I cannot fathom why they didnt include wifi either. Thats just ridiculous for a "smartphone", especially in 2008. I could understand it in 1998, but not now. I asked a guy at VZ about this and he said "why would people pay for data service if it had wifi?" Apparently he thinks the entire country is blanketed in wifi coverage

Ill be happy to give a side-by-side FAIR comparison next week, although Im sure there will already be plenty of threads that do that before I do.

Actually, the VZ guy hit the nail on the head. VZ more than likely did this intentionally to ensure everyone signs up for a data plan. To all the people saying it doesn't need wi-fi, consider those people who stream a lot of audio / video and the letters they will be receiving if they pass the 5GB cap. Also, like the other poster mentioned, I can't even connect to my network at home. The remote app for the iPhone is beautiful. Ever heard of the popular Sonos systems? This replaces the need for those systems that cost $1,000+.

Now, I'm not being biased. BB's are great, but I don't think this will kill the iPhone by any means. Apple has already made a name for themselves and it will be too hard to take that from them. It always amazes me that they only only have one phone model (2G and 3G are mostly the same) and are dethroning every other manufacturer out there except Nokia.

This will surely be a popular phone just like the Voyager because VZ customers are hungry for an iPhone or anything that will even come close to it.

I have considered it and am now getting it.....

I really like my iphone and my beef really isnt with apple , but more with at&t. I think there service sucks...The reason i am switching is more for verizon service, and they now have a device that i think can replace the iphone.

im looking forward to having video, mms, and being able to make a full phone call.

I understand thats the point hes making, and what VZ is trying to do, but it still doesnt make sense. Who wouldnt want to browse over wifi vs 3g if you had the chance? There isnt wifi connectivity everywhere so thats when you need to use your VZ network.

I dare say 99.9% of people who have an iPhone have the data plan. In fact I think its a requirement when you sign the contract no? And 99.9% of people who have a Blackberry probably have a data plan. So including wifi is not going to keep people from signing up for a data plan. Its just an added feature to use when you have the opportunity.

Blackberry will for sure release a GSM version of the storm.. One I will wait for.. although the bold is pretty sexy.

Acually if i see correctly, they already exist!:

Yes! I also love that there is nothing to over use. No keys(minus the home button) will ever jam or come lose, because they aren't there!

You know I question that. The Home button being the only button making it the most used for what is does, has anyone wondered what what happened if it stopped working? The iphone would be completely useless. I wonder what att/apple would do in cases like that. I personally love att customer support so far they were gonna replace my iphone for a sim card read error! Hopefully their still kind to replace a broken home button.

I don't know what you're talking about. When surfing with Sarfari, my iPhone brings me back to the home screen on a regular basis and I don't even have to hit the home button! :D

Rofl, Believe it or not after the recent safari update for mac, my mac has been doing the same thing, 4 times already in 5 minutes. :D The iphone really is based off OSX.

I think i am seriously considering it as well....i just feel as customers we are owed some kind of explanation for the simple things that we want...like mms, copy and paste, and video....apple is just ignoring us time after time and i am getting sick of it...

Mabye Apple isnt ignoring us my friend, mabye they are working on it. There is no apple official blog or announcment board for them to publish the fact that these features are coming in a new firmware. This firmware 2.2 look promising feature wise as 2.1 was stability wise. Since apple only released a new firmware every couple of months that gives them time to work on these features, after all japanesse emoji icons were finally added! Blackberry on the other hand i dont ever recall them releasing updates firmware wise. Why? Because its the same OS for years, and yes you get mms/copy paste etc. but you wont have millions of apps to choose from.

Don't forget that most BB's have their shortcomings as well. Take the browser for instance. I'm wondering how the browser will be on this one. Surfing on my 8830 is almost useless. Also, no HTML e-mail (maybe this has changed with the storm).

Again, BIS email: If you read email on your desktop, it doesn't reflect as read on your BB. That means if you check 50 new messages on your desktop, those same 50 messages will still be waiting for you on your BB. That's annoying.

I'm considering it because i'm on a family plan and the 'rents don't want to switch. Besides the ipod, wifi and app store. ( i don't really MMS/take video with my phone) I don't see a difference in terms of features. I guess the most important thing for me is the web browser, email and of course the phone part. I love my pearl but much rather have an iphone.
ATT and verizon are equal in terms of service. (long Island) If given the option of the the two phones and both were on the table and i just had to pick one i would grab the iphone in a heartbeat. I guess maybe i'll buy an ipod touch. When do you think the ipod touch will get a bump in size? (60 gig)

This is the most random and confusing post! I think you should get an iPhone.

I know on my iphone with my Exchange server it will mark messages read, mabye this is the case also on the blackberry when connecting to your own Exchange Server? The browser yes does suck big time, however mabye with the storm now that its touch screen it gives blackberry more of an oppurtunity to fix that browser. I personally used opera on my curve.

You're referring to BES, which does work both ways. It also costs $10 more on average for the service. So you're now looking a $40 instead of $30 for the BB data plan.

No wifi = no storm for me.

Plus, the interface doesn't seem to work as well as the iPhone's. it seems choppy and clunky.

Sure there are some features the iPHone can use, but right now, it has everything I need. Every time I pick mine up, I'm still amazed by it.

Apple innovates - the rest duplicate.

How do you know? It doesnt come out til the 21st.

I do not like the keyboard on the iphone. I would rather have real buttons.

If you jailbreak your iPhone you CAN have take video, and MMS....but AT&T will still suck..LOL. I have T-Mobile and have bneen real happy with them.

I cant send video to anybody but i can take it with Cycorder and MMS with the app swirlyMMS works real good. However, after 2 weeks you have to buy swirly MMS for $8 but thats not bad considering some apps that cost even $5 in the app store arent very good and swirly MMS isnt in the app store yet. Dont know if Apple wants it there because they have been trying to get it in there.

if given the 2 phones and the service was equal i would take the iphone in a heartbeat. I'm on verizon now and they have good service where i live. I like my pearl so i see the storm as a compromise.
Maybe i'll get an ipod touch when they up it to 60 maybe at MWSF so i can play with the app store.

This is a big ? mark for me too. Wonder how the browser is? Suppose to be full html. I wonder (but doubt) if it will have multiple page ability like the iPhone. Would be nice.

im wondering if the storm's screen is scratch proof like the iphones????? that could be a killer....

If Verizon didn't sell other smartphones with WiFi, he'd have a point. But they have done so, and still do.

It's far more likely to simply be a RIM design choice, just as Apple decided to not go with 3G for their first model.

As for reaching your own home network for remote control, it depends on who your provider is. I use Cablevision and have no problem directly reaching my home IP over the internet for Slingbox use. (And yes, I do it by IP and give it out to family as well.)

All that said, I prefer having WiFi for home use, too.

No excuses for Verizon.
