You'll see the spinny white icon when it autosaves, otherwise it's not that hard to quit every time you finish just to be sure.

So far I'm a lvl 17 soldier. Close to 18. Been playing a lot of co-op.

I'll have to look for that icon. I do see it when you quit back to the menu and it specifically tells you not to turn off your console. Then when you come into the game I'm finding the extra person always has to load their character back in instead of the default "new character".

I am up to L17 playing coop too. As you get acclimated if gets better. We went into a cave looking for crystals and it was one heck of a fight getting from one end to the other! Mucho fun! I'm wondering when you do coop, have you effectively made the game easier or could it be throwing more mobs at you?

One thing I'm still trying to nail down, are the classes, but my initial impression is that you can use any weapon in the game. Therefore my hunter coop partner can use any gun he wants. This is contrary how I imagined normal classes limitations and available weaponry. And it does reduce the importance of picking a class imo, maybe a negative. And I who have an infinity for sniper rifles in the right circumstances, really appreciates having one as a soldier. I've got a 164 damage fire sniper rifle that is sweet and while most mobs don't fall with a single head shot, some do, taking their heads clean off, OowYah!

I'm gonna check out the brute or whatever he is called, the big strong guy and see what limits he has with weapons if any. Honestly if he can use any weapon, as the most heavily natural armored class, is there any real reason to play anything else? I do admit the soldiers turret is very nice. The hunter's boodwing pet is handy too.

I've not played a Siren yet, but I'm wondering how helpfull is "phasewalking" . It looks like you can sneak, but in many occasions, the goal is to fight and get xp, although I could imagine situations as a solo player where you might want to sneak through some areas, but it is such a brief effect with a cooldown, I don't know how practical it would be.

Yeah I've only played the first few missions (killing first boss) as each of a soldier / siren / hunter and its hard to choose between them to be honest. I didn't want to spend 10 hours wondering what another class is like so I re-played the beginning to find a suitable character. It's disapointing that there isn't a huge difference and it seems the secondary power is really the only defining characteristic.

I'll probably stick as a siren..... Or hunter.... Or soldier...

I wish we could have more control on charmacter customisation too, a female soldier, a male siren etc... Regardless of overall effect on game mechanics, customising your character as you want then to be is integral to any role playing game and helps immerse you more into the world. As it stands I feel I'm playing with GI Generic Joe

I'm up to a level 19 soldier at the moment. The game reminds me of Diablo, and Far Cry 2 (Far Cry because of the open world/variety of weapons).

Any ideas on which is the best console system to get this on? I played 4 hours of co-op over the weekend on the 360 and loved it, but I usually buy my games for the PS3 (PS3 is on a 40" HDTV, 360 is on a 26" via component...), but I don't want to purchase a bad port...

I got it for 360, for co-op. Also, the PS3 currently has some bug with co-op, but I don't really know what it is (but it is getting patched soon).

Damn you guys are fast...I'm like a level 7 soldier and I was thinking about using the sniper class when I play online.

One question for Brick players: Is his berserk skill really useful because it looks like he takes massive damage by the time he runs up on a enemy.

I'm really hoping they provide DLC which will up our storage or at least give us a storage house because I hate dropping guns and not being able to pick up an unlimited amount of ammo/health.

Note: PS3 friends list bug has been fixed so I would pick the version that my friends have to play along with them if you're into coop but both version look and play the same.

Bless

The head to head comparisons put the 360 & PS3 versions to the same level. So just pick whatever suits, and if your playing co-op pick whichever version you want to play your friends with.

Either way enjoy.

If I have it right and all classes can use all weapons and all gadgets like shields, then class distinction has mostly been minimized. The only distinction seems to be natural and special abilities. Btw, you don't get the class special abilities until some level above novice, don't remember if it was level 5 or 10, but somewhere in there. And there are a complete set of sub-specialties you can add depending on the class. But in a way it makes me wonder why even have classes? Instead they just should have had skills and let the player pick their specialization... well you are doing that when you pick your class, but I make this comment because usually, traditionally, class= specialization and restrictions. And while I could be mistaken, I have yet to run across any gear that I can't use due to my class (soldier). Does this make the game bad? Well, no but it will be disappointing if you are thinking and like "class" structure in the traditional sense.

So does this mean a Hunter has better aim using a sniper rifle versus a soldier using one? So far I have not seen an indication of that. Does it mean the Brick hits harder in melee (other than his berserker ability)? I have not determined, although it does appear he has the highest starting armor. Mob Bricks take about 5x the number of hits to kill as compared to other mobs. Shoot'm in the head works best (more crits) otherwise it could be more like 10x the number of hits.

I have not yet played a Brick, but as they have the highest natural armor, it's a class I intend on checking out in the near future. I imagine, that *if* you can use all weapons, you would play the brick like any other class, use your sniper rifle from a distance, SMG/rifles midrange, and shotgun up close, but with the Brick on occasion (due to cool down) you could use your berserk on the especially tough, close in fights. About the time you might whip out your shotgun/scattergun is the time you'd consider beserk. I would not trigger until I'm on top of opponent to maximize effect.

I'd like to hear if anyone has played a Siren up to a decent level, just how helpful is the Siren's phase walking? I've noticed that when you leave a zone, say to turn in a quest, all the inhabitants you had to previously fight, respawn. When I've run into this situation, we just sprint through areas with high concentrations of mobs we don't want to fight again. This seems effective most of the time. So while there could be a situation where real sneaking would be helpful, my impression is that for most situations it's not nearly as helpful as having your own turret, pet or going berserk!

My guess is that other than people who like playing girls (I do on occasion) unless there is something I'm not understanding about Sirens, it will be the least utilized class of the game. Maybe she has something unique and really valuable in her class sub-skills? :) Opinions?

One other comment I saw about fighting critters vs people, someone said too may critters! Some of the early quests take you to Skag Gully where you are fighting mostly critters. Later in the game you fight more people at the mines, windfarms, and outposts around the landscape.

So far I am pleased with the X-Box version of Borderlands. The graphics look great. While Fallout 3 has much more in-depth, complicated looking scenery (ruined buildings/cities), I found it to have a muddy, muddled look. BLs looks much more pleasing to the eye. I'd be curious to see if the PC version looks any better. I agree with the comment that more character customization (versus NONE) would have been better. My guess it was a developer decision that cut down on overhead and effort. ;)

I found this on borderlands.wiki:
Lilith is essentially the mage of the group, using her Siren powers to support the group and attack the enemy. Lilith could also be treated as the rogue of the group with her Phasewalk ability turning her invisible for a short time allowing her to sneak around at an increased speed, her Assassin skill tree giving her more melee/critical damage and her Controller skill tree giving her the ability to daze.
Her Elementalist tree adds bonuses for weapons that employ static, incendiary, and corrosive damage.

Lilith's assassin skill tree might be an advantage, but I'm undecided on how useful "phasewalking"- sneaking around invisible is. I leveled up a Siren a couple of levels and her basic melee attack based on magic seems no stronger than other classes melee abilities. Again, so far, I've not seen any significant differences in game play based on class. However I don't have a lot of experience with all of the classes. That is a first impression. My soldier is L18, Brick is L5, Siren is L2.

Borderlands.wiki:
Brick's Active ability is a Berserk Mode in which the screen goes red, he throws down his weapon and proceeds to attack with his fists. During this time, Brick also gains resistance to all damage and his health will regenerate as he beats down enemies.[1] You control Brick's berserk mode by using the 'aim' button for a powerful but slower left hook and the 'shoot' button for a quicker but weaker right jab. One of the ways that his Berserk Mode is improved is by upgrading different skill trees.
Brick's three skill trees are Brawler, Tank and Blaster.

After playing the brick up through level 5, I'm going to alter my statement about the brick having the highest natural armor. My health seemed to drop pretty fast when I was being shot, same or close other classes. Really it is still undecided, the mob bricks you fight are the toughest mobs to kill, but that could be due to hefty shields vs natural armor. For those of you who are familiar, I took my brick toon, solo to fight "Ninetoes" over in Skag Gully and in berserk mode, was able to take down Ninetoe's shield in just a couple of wacks and finished him off fairly easily. The first time through it was probably not knowing what we were doing but myself (soldier) and a hunter had a more difficult time, with several rezes to finish him. I'm really curious how easy it will be to fight this guy solo with a Siren. By the time you get to him, you will be at L5 and have your special ability will be activated.

You're only lvl 7 right now. Later in the game you can find some quests that, upon completion, give you more storage space. Currently I have 30, I think, storage slots in my backpack. That is more than enough considering the vending machines are no more than a quest or 2 away at the most so I am constantly selling weapons I choose not to use. I do however keep the most powerful weapon in each category so I can use whatever I want.

Over all, I think this game is fun and could hold my attention for quite a while if I can find some half way decent players to co-op with. So far I've found people who are on their first play through starting at lvl 1. In my opinion people should play through lvl 5-7 by themselves so they can get a better grasp of the mechanics, because otherwise people are constantly waiting on them.

Unless you're dedicated coop to someone who is also a newb, I agree. The game is perfectly soloable through at least L5. One tip, MOVE :), when skags are coming for you run backwards, plinking them as you go, just be careful there is not a cliff back there. In fact most of the low level skags I prefer saving bullets and just time my melee attack while avoiding be bitten. Usualy 3 hits kills them. Now the higher level skags like the alpha, fire, and badass skags are different stories. I've found finding a really big rock to climb can be helpful while I shoot them full of holes. But sometimes they can surprised with a big jump and end up beside you.

One thing, the game and quest progression is exactly the same for each character. Even though I'm playing around with 3 toons right now, gettting a feel for any class differences, my impression is there is no replayability unless you don't mind doing the exact same thing each time.

Edit: Game is perfectly soloable through L10. However I found the best policy for dealing with the Badass Skag in Skag Gully is to run by him and stop only to grab the plant seeds needed for a quest. The mobs in this game will chase you quite a ways.

Siren Update: It seems like Siren when phasewalking has a more powerful melee attack versus her normal melee, but it's over so fast you can only get a couple of hits in, and it's hard to compare with other classes like the brick in berserk.

"for a real gaming system" !!

Please clarify.

I just need to convince 3 of my friends to pick this up, as multiplayer is why is why the reviews I read liked it. They're selling a 4 pack on STEAM at a reduced price.

I'm pretty sure Mr Lax's flame comment was a jab at the Wii, so in that case, Jimmi's response was very appropriate. :p

Absolutely just a jab at the wii.

I am now lvl 26 soldier. The game is still great, getting kind of grindy though as is expected.

As a side note, what kind of guns do you guys use? EDIT: Better list mine, i use sledges shotgun as my secondary (Shoots 3x12x60 damage and 0 accuracy) I use a random shotgun as my main (12x88 damage, 1 shot kill on almost everything) a sniper for distance (359 damage) and a rocket launcher for cars (319 x 3 damage)

I can't give exact stats but I'm finding that for a fast fire combat rifle, and sniper rifle, an attribute like incinerary, acid, or shield disrupting makes a less powerful gun just as effective, if not more, as a higher damage rated gun without those attributes.

Well, I'm now at Level 31 and ploughing through the quests with the other half in Co-op. She's playing as Lillith, and I'm Roland.

Great game though, we can't put it down. We're using different weapons so we don't both always want the same ammo, so it breaks down as follows:

Roland:
- Sniper Rifle
- Assault Rifle
- Rocket Launcher
- Shotgun

Lillith:
- SMG
- Repeater
- Sniper Rifle
- Rocket Launcher

We both use rocket launchers as they're pretty good at taking down turrets and emplacements. I mainly use the sniper rifle and the assault rifle from a distance, whilst Lillith runs in and gets up close with the SMG and Repeater. Works pretty well most of the time - but on occasions we both have to sit back and snipe to thin out the crowd.

Headshots seem to be the way forward, especially at this stage in the game. There are enemies with shields that render fast-firing weapons useless as they have lower accuracy and high recoil, and lots of health & shields.

Shock of the day came from the realisation that other people use Roland's turret skill...

She's worse than me! I can't sometimes get any play time as she's in the middle of something, so I have to break out the PSP/DS. We're basically a pair of nerds

I have it for Ps3 and have been playing for about 2 weeks now. its really fun i have a level 20 solider and a level 13 character. I like the co op but it seems like when i play online i keep replaying the same missions. Any one else notice this?

Anyone playing this on PS3? I just picked this up along with the slim PS3. Just started and I'm level 7 playing with Brick. PSN ID is in my sig.
