So guys, isnt the XS a more sweet spot size, not too big, not too tall ? A Max limit to what a Phone could be or should be ? I mean you can have a Phone as big a size as you want but you dont have to call it a Phone then you have to call it a Phablet ! Does the XS Max look like a Phablet ?

Yes. It looks like a phablet because it is a phablet.

I agree with you OP, a phone should be just that, a phone. Not a phablet or anything. It should be sizeable enough to use with one hand easily and light and fit in your pocket comfortably. Get a phablet or tablet if you want a bigger screen sized device or you like to use 2 hands.

To each his own but that’s the route I took. Have had the 6+/7+ for years for the screen real estate, but hated the size.

Xs is perfect (same screen real estate) and if I want a bigger screen I have the iPad Pro 10.5.

This has been an issue since the phablet thing started... the convenience and awesomeness of a huge screen vs the inconvenience and suckiness of having a salad plate in your pocket. And I’m still debating myself! 1 handed 2 handed not a big deal to me, for me it’s just what i do with it when not using it. Don’t need anything more than what gravity is already doing to my pants these days. :)

This morning I picked up my XS Max pre-order. This is my first time using the larger screen version of any device. The iPhone X was the largest screen I had ever had up until now.

I decided to go with the Max model as my fingers are large and it was trouble some to type as my I would constantly miss spell works because of my finger size.

I regret the Max. Its damn near impossible to type with one hand and everything seems zoomed in some apps. I have to be honest and say that I prefer the regular sized model over the Max.

I will be downgrading. Anyone else have similar complaints.

There are some settings in keyboard where you can change the style of the keyboard. You can change it from Settings.

I don't think anyone except you has suggested the Max is too big. Pretty controversial to even suggest it.
Controversial? They wouldn't be the only one.

Only way to realise it's size is to use it yourself & plenty wouldn't be expecting the extra reach needed to tap on all corners of the screen, especially those used to one handed phone use.

No one can answer that for you.

Go into a store & demo it for yourself.

No, it’s not the same screen real estate. X/XS are significantly narrower than Plus/Max/XR. 375 points width versus 414 points. People who came from a Plus to the X last year complained about just that. The screen is taller, but also smaller. Which can feel like a prison window when you’re used to Plus screens.

The XS Max is not a one-hand phone and if you go into your experience expecting to use it with one hand, you'll be disappointed. But, I agree with others. Give it some time. You'll get used to it and may come to appreciate the bigger screen more.

I'm torn myself, I've gone from 6S to 6S+ to 7+ to 7 to 7+ to 8+. While the size can be annoying at times, I LOVE the screen size of the plus, not to mention the battery life. As great as they are, I can't see myself being happy with the screen size of the X or XS. But I will say that I like that all things are equal with both sizes of the XS, no longer do you feel like you're missing features by not getting the larger size.

this reason is exactly why I went Max this year.

By the way, way to take the time to do a subscript for the R in XR and the S in XS. That's some serious dedication. Although, I believe the official Apple take on this is that all the letters should be caps. :)

Definitely adjusting to the max with each day but there’s something just right about the XS size, big enough for consumption but portable and good for spontaneous use. But giving it a solid 10 days before I decide anything.

REGRET.
Holding on to my X.
Ordered the XS Max gold and recieved it last friday. Played with it during the weekend and can safely conclude that I prefer the smaller size of the X. But the camera on the XS is a nice improvement over the X. I’m returning the Max.

X owner here and I feel you.
I picked up the Xs Max too and now I regret.
but unlike you,it wasn't my first big phone,I had 7 Plus and even Note 8 before iPhone X.
but iPhone X was the perfect sweet spot size,in terms on screen and ease of handling.
the Xs Max feels awkward, too bulky and I just don't like it.

also all these new reports of bad battery life vs X makes me more determined to return the damn thing, the excitement will wear off very quickly and I will be left with huge bill to pay for something that I don't enjoy.

X form-factor is superior and I think buying an Xs or Xs Max for anyone who was happy with X is a big mistake.

Returning the MAX and keeping the XS. I am coming from 7+. Too big, too heavy, and too hard to use. My hand hurts! I so wanted to make it work but just can't adjust to it. I tried, naked, case, pop socket, and nothing works for me. Guess my original choice was right but glad I have given the MAX a try.

Says who? I could say that the power to form ratio makes the XS the flagship and the Max niche. In other words, the bigger screen and bigger battery on the Max are, well, bigger!

This is exactly how I see it. The Max is the heaviest iPhone to date. I have a Plus phone over the standard ONLY because the resolution, camera and battery all are better. Those differences combined could arguably make the Plus phones the "flagship" of their identical smaller non Plus model numbers (even if people prefer the smaller form factor).

In the case of the Max, the battery is only larger because the device is bigger. The resolution of the X/XS/XS Max and the cameras of the XS/XS Max are identical. I'm heavily leaning towards the XS this round.

I’d had two years of the plus size and had started to notice that As much as I appreciated the large screen, I really didn’t like the trade off of the extra bulk.

I went for the XS and adapted in no time. The screen doesn’t feel small to me at all and it’s so nice to walk around, remember i’m carrying a phone and not suddenly become aware of its weight in my pocket. It’s the perfect sweet spot for me.

I think this is probably true. Personally I’m waiting to see the XR, because I suspect - for me - it will hit that sweet spot. Not too tall/narrow, but not quite as big as the Max. We’ll see.

Had the + size phones since they came out, always loved the form factor of the standard phone, but preferred the big screen, Got the X last year, and it’s the perfect phone for me. Big screen in a normal phone package.

My wife got the MAX because she plays a lot of games and watches videos and loves it. I’ve played with it a bit, and so far, totally satisfied with my decision to keep my X
