Went from a 6S Plus to the Max, loving it. It does feel a bit heavier, but loving the huge screen.

This morning I picked up my XS Max pre-order. This is my first time using the larger screen version of any device. The iPhone X was the largest screen I had ever had up until now.

I decided to go with the Max model as my fingers are large and it was trouble some to type as my I would constantly miss spell works because of my finger size.

I regret the Max. Its damn near impossible to type with one hand and everything seems zoomed in some apps. I have to be honest and say that I prefer the regular sized model over the Max.

I will be downgrading. Anyone else have similar complaints.

Nope

it’s not the XS Max it’s iOS 12 that’s buggy
And causing connectivity problems , speaker problems, etc.
After Apple spent a whole year polishing iOS 12 the results are terrible!!!!

Well... its been just about a week and the verdict is in... the max is here to stay.

It took me a solid three days to get use to the phone and the different holding positions compared to my old X. Now that I am use to it I find that it works. I've even found the perfect way to type one handed using the normal keyboard.

just think two handed device and you'll be fine. for me the 8 Plus and XS Max i dont notice much diff in terms of screen because they're both so big already. Something significant would be the 8 to XS because you're still able to reach most parts of the phone with one hand if not more or less.

I’ve had plus phones since they were introduced and I wouldn’t go back. That’s why I waited out the X and went 8 plus. As a side issue, I know many many people of different generations and builds, who use iPhones of many shapes and sizes, and not one single one of them types on the phone one-handed. They either hold it in one hand and peck at it with the other, or hold it with two hands and thumb-type (like i have all these years)

I was nervous about going up to a 5.8" display from a 4.7" one. You get used to it. This time I made a similar leap from the 5.8" of my Honor 10 and iPhone X plus my 4.7" iPhone 8.

I love it; it's the best phone I've ever owned and easily fits into my jeans pocket thanks to Apple's reducing the bezels, even with an ALC on mine. Don't think I'd ever go above 6.5" screen on a phone, though, and I think this is where Apple will stop with the screen size increases. That is, until folding phones become a thing. I never owned any of the plus sized phones before apart from the iPhone X.

It's also the first time I've owned a phone with 256GBs of storage, too. Quite the leap from the 128GBs of my Honor 10.

Generally speaking, you can’t say the results are ‘terrible’, because not everybody is experiencing those ‘issues’. And let’s not forget, every year iOS upon release has problems, but for the millions of people who downloaded iOS 12, is everyone having the same issues with their iPhone XS Max? No, they are not (Which a plethora of members in here have stated they have not had any problems). Its intermittent, but at least Apple patches these concerns relatively quickly, with continual updates throughout the year.

Well said. I ran most of the betas of 12 and used the GM until the first beta of 12.1 dropped and it's been an all-around pleasurable experience. Have people already forgotten how bad iOS 11 was all year?

In regards to the Max (gotta touch on the thread topic), this is the first year that I've had zero desire to upgrade. Every year I tell myself I'm keeping what I have and putting the money toward something more practical but up until this year I've always ended up either pre-ordering or breaking down a couple of weeks later after the want gets too strong for me.

As of right now, the want hasn't even begun to creep in. Maybe it's because I squashed my upgrade bug with my Series 4 Watch. All of that said, if I were to upgrade I'd 100% be going for the XS as the X has been an absolute dream for me. There is nothing that I would change about it. When I made the realization that there was no way I was upgrading, I went to buy a new case and ended up with a midnight blue silicone from Apple. Coming from a midnight blue leather case, I couldn't be happier and it makes it feel like a have a new phone (pretending it's a XS is kinda working for me, actually).

Enough topics? :)

But you do see the need to read and respond to it?!

I came from the 6s Plus to Xs Max. I haven't had a regret since day one. How can you not like the bigger screen. Its simply awesome. The apps will change given time. If someone trades me with a Xs instead of Max I wouldn't do it.

I returned my 64GB Max on Monday. Now a few days has past, I don't regret sending it back but regret getting 64GB. I'll reorder a Max 256GB when my refund clears. :D

Been using Max 1 day before release. I came from X. My Max is a keeper. Sold the X 2 days later since I started using Max. The X overall size prepared me for Max. Size wise the change isn’t drastic. Already was using X 2 handed so Max was easy for me.

The XS Max is not a one-hand phone and if you go into your experience expecting to use it with one hand, you'll be disappointed. But, I agree with others. Give it some time. You'll get used to it and may come to appreciate the bigger screen more.

This should be common sense but a lot don’t realize that before they buy.

I agree. Apps starting to update. More content now on the big screen. I those apps I find myself clicking less and scrolling less.

And I’m sure it’s a very pleasant to read content on, including on Tapatalk. I feel that way about the X. I do like the bigger screen of the Max but it’s unfortunately not a good fit for my needs. Hands aren’t big enough and I do use my phone with one hand a lot. I checked the phone out at the Apple Store and I was correct. I couldn’t even reach the top of the phone to pull down the control center and notifications.

I use my max almost exclusively with one hand... the only thing that truly prevents one handed use is control center.

I got the xs launch day, and the following Wednesday exchanged if for an xsm. I really wanted to like the bigger phone and there were things I liked a lot: bigger keyboard, easier to increase system font. But in the end it was too heavy and big for my useage (a lot of one handed use on a bike). I returned the xsm today and got another xs. Feels like coming home I have to say (I’ve never had a plus phone). If they put 2 cameras on the xr next year that could be the ideal form factor/weight for me. We’ll see....

I wouldn't refer XS Max to XS a downgrade; it's a lateral move. Enjoy.

Glad you're happy! As others have said, it's all about personal preference and the exact reason why Apple makes different size phones. It's not a "downgrade" to use Xs over Xs Max... it's just another choice.

I can't stand the older Plus phones with big bezels, however I love the Xs Max and after a few days got used to the size (coming from 7, X and now Max).
I coming from iPhone 2G, 3GS,4,4s,5,6+,6s+,7+,X,X’s Max.

I quite agree, I wish Apple would make CC more accessible for one handed use. I know about Reachability, but this is the other gesture that I find virtually impossible one handed, which makes no sense whatsoever as it’s a function that is supposed to make one handed use easier.
