Well... its been just about a week and the verdict is in... the max is here to stay.

It took me a solid three days to get use to the phone and the different holding positions compared to my old X. Now that I am use to it I find that it works. I've even found the perfect way to type one handed using the normal keyboard.

Once you’re functional with one hand, there’s no going back. You’re plus sized to the core now. :D

Glad you're happy! As others have said, it's all about personal preference and the exact reason why Apple makes different size phones. It's not a "downgrade" to use Xs over Xs Max... it's just another choice.

I can't stand the older Plus phones with big bezels, however I love the Xs Max and after a few days got used to the size (coming from 7, X and now Max).

Sometimes it’s just an adjustment factor, especially with a new form factor with the 6.5 Form factor, I can see why it may not always be as easy as it seems, because we all different hand sizes and how we manipulate the device, but it’s more of adjusting after a few days in your situation.

That's what she said.

Anyway we used the OG iPhone that was half the size of the Max and never complained; it just takes some time getting used to any size.

Took my preordered max back to my local apple store Saturday and exchanged for an xs. I have an x that I am handing off to my wife or otherwise I would just stay with the x. I have come to really like the size of the x and now xs over the plus and now max size iPhone. Don't get me wrong, the max is an awesome device and the screen is brilliant, however I just like the size of the xs.
It's threads like yours that catches my attention. I'm on a 5S. Last year, I purchased the X over holidays. I got to test it out for a month until I heard rumors of the X Plus (X Max), so I returned the X. I thought I was decided on the XS Max, but after taking a few visits to Apple, I'm still on the fence as to which - XS or XS Max?

I have a company iPhone 7 Plus. I've tested the size. It's huge in terms of carrying it in jeans or pant pocket. I like the look and feel of the XS, but I like the functionality (larger screen) of the XS Max. Which do I go for, size or functionality? I figure I can use my work phone for things that need to be done work related, but I don't like carrying my work phone with me on days off. Having my 7 Plus on days off is not a requirement of my employer.
Some have suggested that X and XS is too small. I'm coming from a 5S. I did notice how small the X was during my 1 month trial even though I'm coming from a 5S. I just can't decide. I need to make a decision by Oct. 17th. I'm headed to Portland, Or. for 3 days of work. I want to take advantage and save myself $100 in taxes on the XS/XS Max as Portland is a tax-free state.

If I do come home with the XS, I'm still within my 14-day return policy. It will give me a chance to see the XR. I may even consider the XR as a screen-size compromise of the XS and XS Max.

I swapped from smaller to plus size phones during the 6S/7 models, then had a X then a 8 last few months up to Max release.
Loving the Max doesn't feel as big as the 8 plus my wife has and being all screen is brilliant. Battery is great.
I didn't like V1 FID but V2 is excellent.
Would be hard to go back to a LCD screen phone, i sold my 2018 iPad as it looked ordinary after the Max.

I got the Xs max. I had an X and really liked it but I usually upgrade every year on the upgrade plan. I liked the idea of a better camera. Now, when I pick up my X, it seems really small. My sister wants my X. She has a really old iPhone right now. Get what you want.

I was at Apple this evening really studying both sizes (XS and XS Max), utilizing iMessage, Safari, and the Camera, I've decided to go with the XS Max which was the core reason I skipped the X last year.

I went from a 7 plus to the XS Max. I absolutely love it. I keep trying to use Face ID on my 7 plus now in fact. Only thing I’m sad about is sending my old phone in for trade in credit now lol.

I would agree with what you have listed why the XS Max would be my option as well. Besides viewing more content on a larger display, in addition, the larger battery has always been a selling point for me, even when I owned the Plus models.

That’s what I like about the 14 day return policy. Give it a few days just to be sure and return for an XS. Just be careful you don’t run out of days. The day you got it is day one, next day is day two.

This isn't true...for those (like me) who purchased on launch day, the 14 day window expires on 5 Oct. Therefore, day 1 was 22 Sept, day 2 was 23 Sept etc etc...until day 14 is 5 Oct. This is evidenced by my receipt.

Absolutely love my iPhone Max way better than the X in my opinion. Was happy to sell my iPhone X.

So I checked out the XS and the XS Max, its a very strange dilemma and I dont know what to give preference, portability, reasonable ok size in the form of XS which easily fits in the trouser (Chinos, Cargos, Denim) without adding too much to the bulk and weight of your pocket and not looking obvious that you have a brick in your pocket and all this without being too small, or should the bigger Screen of XS MAX should be given a preference. Somebody rightly pointed a Mobile was imagined as a device which is on the go, so how much bigger screen and size can you have in it before it comes into the Small Tablet,Phablet Category. Yes, but when you compare the XS MAX with the XS the XS looks dated and obsolete then it does feel and look tiny. Had the XS MAX not been invented people would have said the XS is still just the appropriate size. Difficult to decide.

I think my perfect phone would be the height of the Xs but width of the Max. In the meantime, I’m happy with my Max, although disappointed that the battery doesn’t seem to be as good as my 6S Plus.
Interesting. Curious to know how such a device would handle typical aspect ratio's of YouTube video content in zoomed (full screen) mode....Would it be cropped at all?

The Xr is a decent happy medium for many people (screen size-wise).

Its sales figures will be one to keep an eye on as it'll impact Apple's strategy for next year.

Personally feel the 6.1" is the maximum many would go & if it had the same specs as the 5.8"/6.5", it'd sell very well.

I had the X and now I have the Max. Screen is gorgeous! But still in doubt..Max or Xs (60/40).

I'm still in awe people can text one handed. I've been two handing phones since the original iPhone lol.

Everyone's different so try both sizes and decide for yourself. I'd say give it at least a week though. I was on the fence through the first weekend, but have adjusted already and I am happy with the size of the Max. I wear slimmer jeans and pants and have no problem with the Max in my pocket or at the gym, etc. Either way, it's good we have choices, so I never understood why it becomes a better or worse discussion. It's just a personal preference, with pros and cons to each.

You should upgrade to the XS. It has all the features of the max in a slimmer form factor, allows for one-handed use and is easier to manipulate when taking photos and videos. And you can take the money you save to put towards a pair of airpods or Apple Watch.

But it is like having the taste of blood once you keep the Max side by side for comparison with the XS your mind says bigger is better but your conscience says is XS not a balance of everything! I mean of course you can have a 7" inch Tab with phone calling capabilities as Samsung Tab provides but isn't that beating an idea of a portable calling device ? Which is ginormous in size lol ! Just a thought ! I am playing a devil's advocate I Am not influencing anyone.

When I picked up my Max on launch day I wasn't totally impressed with it and even after 13 days that thought remains so I'll be returning it today and wait for the XR to try it out. I'm just not seeing much advantage over my 7+ (other than the screen & camera). Only problem with XR is the lack of 3D Touch.

I thought the Max was basically my dream iPhone. The only issue, and unfortunately it was was a breaking point for me, was I can’t handle the display due to migraine. But I thought it was a gorgeous perfect looking display. I did also have connectivity problems but you know what, if a software update couldn’t fix that I would have tried an exchange because my husband’s Max seems to be doing well enough.

I’m excited to be trying for a second chance with the XR, which I think is going to be cute in yellow or blue and will serve me well.

But I thought very highly of the Max while I had it. I envy those of you who can use it without discomfort. Enjoy!
