20% is not a huge number, thats still around 12m unit being produced after the "slash", and thats only INITIAL orders.

The iPhone Mini's orders were "slashed" similarly on release.

I'd guess during its lifetime they'll sell upward of 30m SE3's. Thats hardly a failure.

Heck, the SE3 is still not even available in some of the markets where its probably going to do extremely well.
It's a failure.

You must be a troll, lol. The SE 2020 outsold every Galaxy flagship device in the year of its release. It outsold the iPhone 13 Pro Max…

What you need to know

  • Apple is said to have been surprised by the lack of demand for smaller iPhones, causing iPhone 13 mini to be the last such device.
  • Apple is now reducing its orders of iPhone SE devices as a result of lower than expected demand.
  • Increased iPhone 13 orders are being made.
Nobody wants a lackluster phone. They prefer the 13 instead.

It'll still be one of the top 10 phones sold this year, and I'd guess for Apple, one of the most profitable devices they build.
But it's not. It's production has been slashed for a reason. As stated, THE DEMAND IS LOW,meaning that in 2022 nobody wants such a lackluster phone. The 13 Mini,iPhone 11 or Samsung A53 is the better option. As already been stated. the Camera, screen and battery life of the SE just isn't cutting it in 2022.

We do peruse thrift shops for secondhand stuff. I've found a couple of Le Creuset sauce pans with lids? ($10 for both?)in near perfect condition at Goodwill, so don't go knocking "budget" customers. For those who don't cook, Le Creuset cookware is high end stuff built to last a lifetime.
Thrift stores and Dollar Stores are not the same.

Thrift store = S/H or goods bought from auctions, lots of real gems when you know what you are looking for.
Dollar store = Chinese crap sold for a dollar (because it's what its worth).

I keep seeing people saying this, (and not to lean either way as I use both iOS and Android for my job as a developer) The A53 will receive 4 years of OS updates (Android 16) and at least 5 years of monthly security updates. Samsung has made great progress in making sure that their phones get access to the latest security and features in the last few years. Sure it isn't quite as long as Apple support, but it's perfectly acceptable. Most people that I know don't keep phones 4 or 5 years anyways.

Where are you getting “at least” from?

Samsung’s own anouncement of the A33 and A53 says:

Both devices guarantee up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades and up to five years of security updates

“Up to“ is absolutely useless as a commitment

I say at least because there is always a possibility that Samsung could extend the security updates if it is necessary to patch something. I don't know why they are using the "up to" bs in their statements, but either way it doesn't change what I said.

Sigh.

“This has been backed up by a Nikkei Asia report that claims Apple's cutting its iPhone SE output for next quarter by around 20% (approximately 2 million units), along with a cut of 10 million units for AirPods production. The report again cites low demand, but that this is caused by inflation and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”

You can try to spin this anyway you want to, but 15-20 million units sold (that’s after the 20% production decrease) is NOT a small number. That’s a ton of demand and it will probably be even higher than 20 million after all is said and done. Considering the state of the world, that is pretty impressive for a device of that size.

It does. “Up to 5 years” isn’t a commitment to provide 5 years.

1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years are all possibilities based on Samsung’s own statement. The only thing it rules out is more than 5 years.

Hol' up... so are you trying to tell us that Samsung's official policy statement about their own product is somehow less reliable than your speculation about an elusive "possibility" toward the end of the lifetime of that product?

And yet, you guys would have us believe that the Apple fanboys are the unreasoning drones? ?

Fanboy? I am an iOS developer buddy. I like how you fanboys accuse others of being a fanboy. I'm just saying it's possible, if it upsets you that much i'll take it back sheesh.
Anyways, it's based on the fact there have been times in the past that Samsung has pushed updates for phones that were no longer officially supported. I don't get how it's so hard to believe.

It's not exceeding or meeting sales expectations. You can try to spin this any way to your little heart is content, but due it it being such a lackluster phone, people are buying the 13 instead. If inflation was a major factor, it would effect the 13 as well, but instead they're increasing 13 production. The SE is a lackluster phone and more people prefer the 13 instead. THE NUMBERS DON"T LIE. BTW, they've slashed the SE's production. The SE is trash an Apple just needs to abandon budget phones. This phone would be great for a middle school kid . I am am ordering 2 for my niece and nephew. They're cheap and would fit a child's use just fine.

Oh, I'm aware; I double-checked your post history earlier. You are an iOS and Android developer, you use both as part of your job, you're extremely annoyed that the green iPhone 13 came out after the blue one that you already have.

That may all be a part of your professional persona, but you still talk like an Android fanboy.

"

Overall winner: Samsung Galaxy A53

There isn’t a huge difference between these two phones, and many of the differences are things that will ultimately come down to personal preference, like the Galaxy A53’s expandable storage or the iPhone SE’s wireless charging. But we’ve crowned Samsung’s Galaxy A53 5G our overall winner thanks to that octa-core processor, larger full HD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate, beefy battery with 25W fast charging, and expandable storage"

Android fanboy, ok. I also own 2 OG Homepods, 3 minis, 3 Apple TV, iphone x, 12 and 13 pro max, m1 mac mini, and an m1 macbook air. Apple watch series 6 and 7, iPad Pro and iPad Air 5 and I have attended WWDC 3 times and have been an Apple stockholder since 2010. I don't talk like an Android fanboy because i'm not one. I also don't talk like an Apple Fanboy because that is just childish. Like people who go through someones post history just to try to prove how smart they are. You get the you are now ignored prize for today. Congrats.

Cool! I annoyed him enough to make him massively flex on his "Apple creds", and to be on his ignore list!

Oh... and apparently, I'm the childish one, just for doing a quick check to see what kind of person I'm actually talking to? That just made my day.

No you are getting ignored because I don't come here to argue. And I hate being baited. If you don't agree with me fine, but that doesn't make me wrong. And looking at your signature it doesn't seem i'm the only one flexing on his "Apple Creds". At least I don't make it point to put it on everything I post.

You're in a losing battle. You apply reason, and Apple fanboys counter with emotion. Most of the tech youtubers share your same thoughts. A phone like the SE shouldn't exist in 2022. There are better options from both Apple and Android OEM's. LCD screens.Huge bezels,720P screens and single cameras were okay say 5 years ago. In 2022, it is unacceptable. Consumers seem to be agreeing with their wallet as they've already began slashing production. The SE would be an okay phone for kids as they're cheap and easy to replace if they get broken. I will more than likely be getting 2 for my neice and nephew who are in middle school. I couldn't imagine using an SE as an adult in 2022 with so many better options.

Yeah, I know. I wasn't in on the discussion that said if you say something positive about an Android phone in any way you are a fanboy. Guess I will have to remember that next time.

The SE is a good phone for someone that wants a reliable, durable, and economical phone that fits into the Apple ecosystem. Android fails the last criteria.

There are plenty of people that want a simple cost effective phone for home, school and office. Some people just don't live on social media or need the latest camera.

For me, I can get everything done with my iPhone SE (2020) and MBA (2020). I love the simplicity and integration of the using compatible mobile and laptop operating systems. I store almost everything in our family 2TB iCloud account. It is cheap when shared by 5 people. I have no desire to try to shoehorn an Android phone into my minimalist setup. Love simplicity. Hate unnecessary complications.

How is the battery of SE 2020? On LTE and Wi-Fi?

I've dealt with it here an on imore. I use both Samung devices and iPhones. I am not a developer I just like tech, so I always try to get the latest and greatest. With that being said,Android hs s narrowed the gap on the software side with IOS. IMO Apple is better on the Software side mainly on how they push their updates. Samsung makes the better hardware. The SE is proof to that statement.

Hey, I am what I am, and I have never denied it. Embraced it, perhaps.

Amusement is the only emotion driving me, actually. I find it highly interesting that you and pilotpat are seemingly so hard-core-set against the very existence of the SE. It's just a cheap phone that Apple is targeting at -- wait a sec. Who is their target audience again?

... Consumers seem to be agreeing with their wallet ... I will more than likely be getting 2 for my neice and nephew ...

Oh! I see... for all of your criticism of the SE, you're the target audience. I get it now.
