For sports games I'd say the Xbox due to Live. That kind of seals the deal for me - it's a brilliant network. Buuuuuuuuut if Sony were to slap Microsoft in the face with a comparable (or even better) network then I'd happily use that more. My loyalty lies with no-one!
Except Valve. *smooches*

Valve products are top notch, however I've never liked Steam as I want to be able to sell titles I'm done with and as far as I know Steam prevents this.

How about role playing? I'm not into 1v1 fighting games so, so far you reconfirmed my choice. :D

For the 360..
They have all the Square Enix stuff, quite a few extra exclusives - albeit timed ones (whether they are good or not) and it's looking increasingly likely that even FFXIV will arrive on the 360 despite earlier press rumblings.

However this could change and the PS3 has some interesting Role playing games of it's own including Demon Souls out shortly.

At this point I'd say it's a tie..... pretty much.

I say forget everything else and look at the list of the games which are available on each console, wikipedia that crap. The reason we have a 360 is because of the games. The series games which we have followed happened to be coming out on the 360 and not the PS3 or Wii. The graphics between the 360 and PS3 are negligible and based on the person.

Overall multiplatform games nowadays look identical with ps3 vs. 360. A while ago the 360 got the edge since developers made that version first, but now its pretty much equal.

I have to say though that ps3 exclusives seem to have better graphics than that of the 360, just look at uncharted 2 - but maybe that just has to do with how good Naughty Dog is.

Online - Edge has to be given to 360, although since Home is shortly getting full game launching (finally, what took them so long?) it might be personal preference with that.

This actually should be personal preference, since most of my friends had or were planning to get PS3s, I got a PS3. Also not paying $50 a month is nice.

FPS- PS3 is edging the 360 out. Killzone 2 is a masterpiece FPS and the more I play it the more I realize this. Sure the characters are all annoying but that's about the only real downside. Online is amazing, it's classes are extremely balanced and all fun to play, and single player has amazing place. Not to mention it's an amazing looking game still and will only be rivaled by Uncharted 2.

Then in early 2010 (March?) MAG comes out which will be a large scale 256 player FPS, which looks really amazing and ever preview has only said great things.

Fighting - Tie? I don't really know of any exclusives for either system to be honest. The only thing I can think of is that the D-Pad is better but that's such a small gripe anyway, I find myself pushing to the analog stick anyway for SF4.

In my book the PS3 is a better system that has had better exclusives as of the last year- year and a half. It also is the better value, Wifi needs an adapter on the 360 costing $100 retail and $50 a year online.. both of which come built in and free on the PS3. It of course also offers Blu Ray built in for free.

Home is slow, cumbersome and was a ridiculously tailored solution to a simple problem of the ps3 not having a unified online experience.

Having to load chunks of data and spend 10 minutes getting from Room A, to lobby B - update your software and install new parts in the process - just so you can launch a game ? HOW is that anyway in shape or form better than just putting your disc in the machine and launching it?

One game ? That's how it's edging it out ? Yep alright then.......

Oh yeah because previews never lie  ;) My god how many previews have we seen of supposedly AAA titles, only to find out when the game arrives it is 'Average' at best....... MAG could be great.... It could also be next years biggest disappointment.

Are you getting paid by Microsoft or something? How can any Apple user defend M$ and their shoddy products is beyond me. People should pay a bit extra just like a Mac and get a reliable product. The total cost of ownership of a Xbox360 is much higher, just like a PC.

No I'm not paid by M$. I've been an Apple user for over the last 15 years and I buy at least 2 pieces of Apple computer Hardware every year, excluding ipods & iphones.

Does this make me universally IGNORANT and idiotically BIAS ? No it does not.

This ridiculous argument you keep putting forward is nothing but the childish rantings of someone who really needs to grow up.

Just because I buy mac hardware, does that make it imperative that everyone else do the same ? Should all those people who are perfectly happy and content using Microsoft software stop being 'evil'.

Here's a little bit of news for you...... Life is not black and white. If you think Apple are all halo's and angel wings, you really need a wake up call from reality.

As for consoles. I own ALL OF THEM! I call a spade a spade, and I will gladly point out the pitfalls and the high points of all of them.

Because I defend the 360 from silly FUD does not make or put me in the pocket of Microsoft. Likewise I will do the same for the PS3 and the Wii.

Some of us on here have been gaming for the last 20 years. When you have gamed on around 30 platforms (including... Zx80/81, C64, Spectrum 48k, Amstrad, BBC Micro, Acorn Electron, Vic 20, Spectrum 128, Atari ST, Amiga, Atari 2600, Master System, NES, SNES, Megadrive, TurboGFX, Gameboy, Gamegear, Gameboy Color, Atari Lynx, Philips CDi, 3DO, N64, Playstation, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, GameCube, Panasonic Q, Playstation 2, DS, DSlite, Xbox, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 3 Slim, Wii etc......) in those years - it widens your perspective and tolerance level to silly FUD that gets thrown around.

This thread is getting a little crazy (and MRU is just pwning everyone) but I might as well share my thoughts.

I own a Wii, a PS3, and a 360. Acquired in that order.

In my opinion, the PS3 has better games. That's only because the PS3 has more games that I just love. I had a PS2 last gen so it's great to continue different games like Ratchet and Clank and soon God of War and Gran Turismo. The PS3 has way more games that interest me. Weird stuff like LittleBigPlanet and some crazy downloadable titles like Pixeljunk Eden. And it's also great to have a blu-ray player :).

The 360, however, has a better controller and better online gameplay. I am used to the Playstation controller, since I've played lots of PS games, so I don't mind the controller, but it's obvious that the 360's is better. It just fits. And the online is obvious.

Here's a TeamXBox link that lists RPGs. I was not familiar with PS3 offerings. I did play Mass Effect all the way through, great game. However Lost Odyssey did nothing for me. And I played Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion on my PC (outstanding but not perfect). :)

Are you getting paid by Microsoft or something? How can any Apple user defend M$ and their shoddy products is beyond me. People should pay a bit extra just like a Mac and get a reliable product. The total cost of ownership of a Xbox360 is much higher, just like a PC.

Ok, so you love Macs, we all love Macs. :)

Why would you say the Xbox 360 has higher ownership costs? It's a $300 computer built specifically to play games. I've owned one for 2 years and it does the job. Maybe you know, the Xbox processor is a... PowerPC!

For your consideration, the issue is not black and white and totally depends on your focus- I've owned Macs since 1993 and an Apple Computer since 1983. I also have a Pentium III 3.1 Ghz which is used strictly for gaming, however I have not upgraded it as my MBP plays Windows games! :) My G5 desktop which I still use cost approx $2000, my PIII with an identical graphic card, which plays games at all most double the frames cost $800. Example UT2k4- Mac= 30-60 fps, PC=60-100 fps. A lot of customers, only consider the original purchase price and PCs win.

If you are referring to the higher cost of aggravation and tech support, I would agree. Windows 3.1/95/98/XP have always been 10 steps behind the MacOS and because of several issues, I consider them abominations as compared to the MacOS. Unfortunately MS won the marketing war in the 80-90s. We all hope that will change but don't be judgmental when people talk up PCs that play games better than Macs, cause they are being realistic. Macs are superior for 99% of computing tasks, just not gaming. What we need are some native Mac games that have been optimized to play on the Mac OS instead of shoe-string, compromised game ports. Someday that might happen...

Why would you say the Xbox 360 has higher ownership costs?

There you answered your own question already. You wouldn't buy a Mac or a PC with a 50% failure rate, however good a warranty because of all the hassle and wasted time (= wasted money). You spend more time fixing a PC or a Xbox 360 than actually using it. With a PS3 or a Mac there is no issue with hardware breaking down or software messing up like with all M$ products.

Here is the simple analogy.
Xbox 360 = PC . Shoddy hardware with higher cost of ownership due to all the repairs you have undertake, having to wait for replacements etc.

PS3 = Mac. Slightly higher intial cost, but peace of mind when it comes to reliable hardware and software. You also get superior hardware and better designed hardware.

Just like you said, MS won the marketing war for PC, and they've won the marketing war for Xbox360. They don't have a good product and never had a good product. They can use their Windows monopoly to undercut sony and drive them out of business even though Sony has a far superior and reliable console. Typic MS strategy. Blow money on it till it becomes successful.

First of all, there isn't that much of a higher cost. the PS3 slim is only 300$. the XBOX360 Arcade may be 200$ but there is no HDD included in that purchase.

The PS3 IMHO has better build quality, has a faster processor, and has less failure.

not to mention the large HDD sizes, WiFi built in, and you don't have to buy other accessories for it to work with HDMI AND component outs.

i have both in my household, and the best accessories (steering wheels, headphones, ect) are for PS3. Online is free, and sure it's no Live, but it is FREE and definitely still works.

not to mention when i'm not gaming i can run Folding@Home natively on the PS3 through life w/playstation.

mix that with being able to run linux and i don't see why you would buy an xbox 360.

i do not know one person who has bought an xbox 360 and NOT had problems with it.

im gonna make it simple for you.

PS3 has better graphics, better games (blue ray is alost 2 times bigger than normal CD) which means ur gonna get way more fun and play time. plus better downloads.

oh yeah, and 2 things bout x360 MICROSOFT and PAYING FOR INTERNET.
PS2 was free, PS3 is free. PSP is free.
xbox costed, x360 costed, and microsoft sucks.macs no better.

not to mention when i'm not gaming i can run Folding@Home natively on the PS3 through life w/playstation.

Haha, yes, Folding@Home is definitely a killer app - I am sure every XBox owner is really envious!

(Don't get me wrong, I love my PS3, but Folding was definitely NOT the selling point here... ;) )

Tell that to all the REV A mac owners, or the 10-15% of PS3 owners who are suffering YLOD....

Talk about being a zealot!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'd say block his posts but they're actually quite entertaining to read.

MacMonster1985, have you realised theres a big fail in your analogy - PC's have more games than Macs :D.
And what do you mean when you say a PC has
Shoddy hardware
A Mac is a PC with standard, run of the mill components (though with early access to some Intel chips). The displays can be made by Samsung, Panasonic or whatever just like Dells are. There isn't an exclusive brand that make Apple computers. Intel chips, nVidia/ATi graphics. I could build a PC with higher quality components than any computer Apple sells. That would be more powerful, last longer, more energy effecient, have user replaceable parts...

Haha! What a joke :p
This thread is full of a bunch of ill-informed kids.
Just to throw out an example, MGS4. Great game, fills up a blu-ray, but you can beat it in <4 hours. Why does it fill up a blu-ray? Cutscenes.

If you really want to argue Xbox vs. PS3, then how about you own both? I've got both, and I prefer to play my PS3, but some of the stuff you're saying is not true at all. It's just a bunch of crap a fanboy would say.

There you answered your own question already.

I've had no problems with my XBox and it is a viable option for someone who does not have the money to spend on a Mac or a PC. PC failure rates depend on the equipment. There are reputable manufactures out there who supply equipment to both Macs and PCs. Intel comes to mind. :D This issue with PCs mostly is the operating system and thousands of configurations. Vista is not as good as the MacOS, but that is not the only factor behind purchases.

PS3 = Mac. Slightly higher intial cost, but peace of mind when it comes to reliable hardware and software. You also get superior hardware and better designed hardware.

But until recently Macs (due to Bootcamp) are no longer inadequate gaming machines, but we are still relying on Windows to get the job done.
