Which one do you this is better?

Good for you. For me the Xbox 360 was cheaper. My total cost on my Xbox 360 came to £134. £115 for the console (Arcade), £14 for an extra wired controller (retroactive. I bought this for my PC 3 years ago) and £5 for a HDMI lead. My laptop acts as a wireless bridge.
I just borrow games from my brothers very extensive library. He gave me his old 20gb HDD and I'm good to go.
And all that for the same price as a DSi, PSP and much less than even a Wii.

PS3 = Mac. Good hardware and very reliable.
Xbox 360 = PC, breaks down all the time.

Jesus wept! Where do you get this stuff from?

If you buy cheap hardware you will run into problems. If you buy first revision Apple hardware you will run into problems. What is so hard to get about that? Why do you constantly evade answers and don't listen to any reply?

I can build a PC with a higher cost than any Mac that Apple sells, with better performance, better reliability, better everything! A Mac is a PC with off the shelf components. Look inside any other mid-high end PC manufacturer. Funnily enough take a Sony PC, they're going to be using the same stuff as Apple. There is no difference at all. Crack open any Apple computer and you'll see regular brands like Samsung, Matsushita, Intel, nVidia, ATi, Foxconn.
I don't feel like one of these will be enough so;:rolleyes::rolleyes:

HOWEVER I am sorry if I seemed aggressive, and I apologize if you think so. Just it there has been so much silly FUD in this thread beforehand (& subsequently) that I may have had my AUTO-FUD Attack device set to kill rather than stun. :D

This has been one of the most lively threads I've ever dropped in on at MacRumors and between the believer zelots and the questioning lost souls! :D

The PS3 has better graphics. Even if you do the HDMI thing on the Xbox, it can't play Blu-Ray like the PS3.

No it's currently 15% with the PS3's YLOD. It occurs mostly with the launch hardware. DigitalFoundry recently had a great article showing that fundementally they break in a similar fashion (over heating).

15% sounds about right(-ish). Here's another article:

http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/176741.asp

Failure rates:
Code:
xbox360: 54.2%
ps3: 10.6%
wii: 6.8%

Basically, if you bought an xbox360, it was more likely to fail
than not. That may not hold true for newer models. Only time
will tell.

I've reads lots of posts from people who've been through three
or more replacements for failing xboxes. But they have no choice.
It's either that or they can't play the games they've bought.
If you're going to buy a lot of games, you might want to consider
reliability before you end up locked in.

The trouble with these consoles is that they tried to compete
with PC gaming performance but without PC cooling performance.
They were too cheaply made and too compact to avoid heating
issues.

It what sense, and where ? Yes the PS3 has some really great looking games, but making blanket statements, without support evidence is just hollow talk. The only way we can compare games directly is with multi-platform titles which favor the 360 in most testings, but are getting closer and closer. So how is it better ???

There's a nice comparison here:

http://uk.gamespot.com/features/6202552/index.html

Generally speaking, the differences between the systems reviewed
aren't as great as I thought they'd be. However, the xbox360 does
seem to have the edge over the PS3 (but I wouldn't buy it however
good it looks because the hardware is of such poor quality).

From that review, this caught my eye:

compare.png

One thing I've noticed is how little memory these consoles have.
For example, the PS3 has 256MB of system memory and 256MB of
graphics memory. Which is kind of pathetic, really. If you have
that little RAM then the textures aren't going to be finely detailed.

I have an 360 and enjoy it (despite its pathetic hardware issues) but I only got one becuase im a mac user .... I grew up playing PID and Marathon. Marathon even made me want to be an architect (stupid story)

I love Bungie so much that i endured xbox after xbox to play their games!

I hate microsoft and sony equally and lament the £40 a year microsoft gouge me every year to use their online servers (which i might add should be paid for by the developer)

Developers typically mention its easier to code multi platform games for the 360, but the PS3 is technically a superior machine.

Micorsoft have an offensive attitude of basically throwing money at developers to make xbox "timed exclusives" something that happens not because they're better, but they have more cash to flash. I believe Jap developers have even admitted taking this offer to subsidise development of the PS3 version, that gets released 9 months down the line.

Anyway, if you buy a 360, you're basically buying a G5! ( <--- this was a joke, dont gut me for it)

This wasnt really a recomendation for either, more like a rant.

I have both the 360 and PS3. Uncharted and inFamous where fun, and I'm looking forward to Uncharted 2, but the PS3 really just collects dust for the most part. I didn't realize how inferior PSN was to XBL, until I got my PS3. It actually makes me feel BETTER about spending the $40 a year on XBL.

It is nice to have BR ability, so I like that. But as far as strictly a gaming machine, I would have to choose the 360 as the more enjoyable experience.

I'm glad I have both so I can play some of the PS3 exclusives, but whenever a cross-platform game comes out, I find myself always buying the 360 version.

I'm thinking about getting a PS3. I need WiFi, so that's an extra $80 - $100 for the 360 and I don't have any friends with modern gaming systems, so I'm taking the hit and buying one for the apartment.

Not going to miss Xbox Live; having been on there before I can't say I'll be tempted to pay $50 for the colorful language of the strangers there. :p

I imagine I would be looking at the Xbox 360 more closely if that's what my friends all had. As it stands for me, though, I think the PS3 Exclusives outweigh the inferior online system.

I have a PS3 and 360, if it wasn't for Halo I would never play the 360. The PSN is almost as good as Xbox Live, playing online is the same, the only thing that is better about the 360 is that there are parties, and the achievement system is better somehow. But other than that, the PS3 is better.

I have lost all faith in my 360 after having to send it off for the 2nd time in 12 months! It died 1st on Boxing day this year sent it off got it back a month later. 5 months later it died again got it back + have only used it for about 2 hours since! Lucky i got my PS3 that crimbo + so far so good no problems, PS3 is the way to go well worthy investment.

I have both systems I Purchased a new arcade with the Jasper chips its been realitvy cool quite The NGE is 100 better than the XMB but the PSN Store is much beter in terms of design than the Marketplace.

as a Media Center the PS3 wins just by one thing Wifi its totaly BS by MS that its not even built in every system including the ds has this there is no reason that the 360 should have one. but the one thing that i give the edge to ms to is netflix wich i use the 360 mainly for

now as far as games i would say would say PS3 Mainly cause the PS3 has had way better exclusives Granted Halo has been great but MGS 4 Warhawk LBP Uncharted 1 and 2, Killzone 2 have been great Mag Seems really promising from the beta

now online i would Have to to ps3 the fact that its free and the last update to home with universal Game launching hellped step that up and being free of course helps to

So my overall pic is ps3 but if you can afford to pick up a 360 get one there both good counter parts

I don't know how anyone could rank the PS3 as equal to the XBOX 360 in terms of online play. The PSN is pretty meager compared XBOX Live. I don't care if it's free or not.

There's no system-wide voice chat, in-game music or party mode. The in-game XMB is very slow to load and pretty bare bones (a lot of XMB features are not available in-game). The one software advantage it has over the 360 is the Internet browser, but it renders Web sites poorly (nothing like the Opera browser on the Wii).

While the PS3 does have built-in 802.11g wireless, it should be mentioned that by Microsoft offering the wireless dongle seperately they had the option to release a new 802.11n dongle that should make media playback and Media Center Extender support much smoother. I don't have a problem with Microsoft offering the wireless dongle seperately. However, I do have a problem with them overcharging customers for it (it retails for around $99).

The PS3 also has some weird quirks that I don't fully understand. Why do some games require a hard drive install? Why do I have to install trophies before playing a new game? Why are patches installed outside the game instead of within like the 360? Why are firmware updates complete OS images (100MB+) instead of just patches?

It's like Sony designed the PS3 to be a computer rather than a game console, and that's annoying.

There are some minor capabilties that the XBOX 360 has that the PS3 doesn't do (like Netflix, the upcoming Twitter, Last FM and Facebook update, ability to send messages, add friends and mark items to download via www.xbox.com, Media Center Extender (DVR via PC), etc). A few similar capabilities are available on the PS3 also just not in North America (the VidZone music video service for the UK, PlayTV for the UK and AUS, etc). Every reigional Sony division (SCEA, SCEE and SCEJ) has a different opinion on what the PS3 is supposed to be so their features and services aren't streamlined across their different divisions, which is very frustrating to consumers.

Personally, I would purchase what all my friends have. There's no point in owning an online capable console if you don't have any friends to play online multiplayer with. I have the "uber-special' 60GB PS3 which has PS2 backward compatibility and media slots. If it wasn't for that, I would have sold it a long time ago.

Even with all atrocioius hardware problems and the $35/year Live Gold subscription, the 360 is still the better of the two IMO.

I should note that I have a Jasper also, and it's quieter than my 60GB PS3. In fact, it's dead silent unless I have a DVD or game in the disc drive.

I used to love Xbox 360's after going from Sege Megadrive --> Playstation 1 --> Xbox --> Xbox 360....

But then we got a PS3... it is amazing, the picture quality is sooo much better than the 360, both plugged into the same TV via HDMI (at 1080p), PS3 fonts are crisp whilst 360 fonts have digital artefacts around then making them more blurry than crisp (could probably upload picture if you want). The PS3 is easier to use and nicer to use. More features for sure! Graphics in games also look more crisp on the PS3 IMHO.

It sounds more like your tv is at fault than the 360. There should be no difference in hdmi quality on either console. Either your settings are wrong on the console or the tv.

I recently bought a PS3. It will mainly be a Blu-Ray player, but I do love Gran Turismo...

Your TV is broke.

Sounds like he has his 360 in 480p resolution mode.

was that a slim by any chance?

i have a 360 in the bedroom but was thinking about the ps3 slim mainly for blu ray and some media capabilities (already have an appletv downstairs anyway), but didn't know whether to get a standalone player or not...

oops.. didn't mean to hijack!

if you;'re a games man, go 360:D

Lol... its a brand new tv.. both consoles new also. Both set to 1080p (tv is 1080 native) Its not like you can see it when sitting back.. but if you go up close and look at the pixels, the PS3's fonts look alot more clear than the 360's

Can you upload us a picture so we can better understand? Of all the 360 complaints I've read in countless forum postings (with the vast majority of them being legitimate), yours is pretty odd.
