I only use my PS3 (Slim) to play Demon's Souls, but it's TOTALLY worth it just for that.

Everything else is on the Xbox 360 (Jasper) b/c I prefer the interface and community/online features.

I have to say, the PS3 is a hell of a lot quieter though, and it has no giant external power supply like the xbox.

I bought a PS3 the summer after it came out, and I still have the same one. I have a lot of friends who bought xbox at that same time and are on there 3rd or 4th one.

Advantages of 360:
More of your friends will have it
Halo
Gears

Advantages of PS3
Free multiplayer
More functionality: Flash enabled web browser, blu ray, video playback, compatible with all USB accessories
Reliability
Better UI (IMO)

It really comes to preference I think

I'm glad I chose an Xbox 360!

Better games, better graphics, better online experience, better online video experience.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nblesZv0Zyk Even though Final Fantasy is no longer relevant, the Xbox 360 version is sharper with better coloring in game.

The two biggest games of this generation so far, Modern Warfare 2 and Grand Theft Auto 4 run and look better on the Xbox 360 and, in the case of GTA, run at a much higher resolution.

Even streaming media to the Xbox is better. With Connect360 I can stream my entire iTunes and iPhoto library to my Xbox just like an Apple TV, or I can use Windows Media Center to stream everything from my PC.

Oh and current Xbox 360 draws less power than the PS3 slim.

GTA 4 looks horrid on either console. Play it on the PC and it will change your mind, the PC version is way better than either of the muddy texture blurryness that both consoles suffer from.

FFXIII, most people like the PS3 version better.

I can stream direct from my NAS, or from PS3 Media Server, WMC, or TVersity, I paid nothing to stream and it works seamlessly.

You points are all pretty poor this late in the game, troll elsewhere.

I have a PS3 and I love it. I had an Xbox before and I am glad I switched back to Playstation (had a PS1 before the Xbox.)

GTA4 looks worse on the PS3. It runs at 1024x640 with no anti-aliasing and lower resolution textures compared to the 1280x720 Xbox 360 version that also has higher resolution textures and 4x FSAA. The native resolution of the Xbox360 version is 266,240 pixels higher than the PS3 version.

I have played the PC version. In fact, I own it. I played the Xbox 360 version after playing and completing the PC version, then I played Episodes from Liberty City on the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 version looks great as long as you have a good display. The PS3 version has terrible frame-rate issues, streaming issues, loads of "Playstation Vasoline", and the textures are visibly worse. That boils down to the PS3 having a significantly weaker GPU than the Xbox 360.

The proof is in the pudding with Modern Warfare 2 as well. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-modern-warfare-2-face-off?page=3 The Xbox 360 is just better hardware. Plain and simple.

As far as FF13 goes, just watch the video I posted. You can see for yourself. PS3 version is "whiter" while the Xbox 360 version has more accurate coloring and is a tad sharper.

I don't have to pay anything to stream media to my Xbox 360 either ;) However, for a few dollars, I can basically turn it into an Apple TV, but with significantly higher quality video on demand.

I spent around 1 year choosing between the Xbox and the PS3. I decided around one month ago that I will get a PS3, for the following reasons:
-Price is agreable ($370 in Ukraine)
-I really don't see any games I would like on the X360
-Except for Metro 2033
-Graphics, PS3 exclusives have amazing graphics
-Sold officially in Ukraine
-Blu-ray
-I am used to PS2 controls
-I like the design better (this is one of the main points for me as I value design over many other points)
-Exclusives like GOW, Uncharted, LBP.

I bought a PS3 because I like the home interface better, I'm used to the PS/PS2 controllers, I like the exclusive games (Uncharted 2 is AH-MAZ-ZING) and it's not made by Microsoft. I also think the PS3 looks better than the XBox and I like how you don't have to pay for online service.

The Playstation 2 was the best selling console of all time, and I'm sure that once more and more games are developed on the PS3, we'll get even better graphics and better games.

I do have some gripes about it though. Multiplatform games don't perform as well on the PS3. I play Skate 2 a lot and it stutters like crazy, but it's perfectly smooth on the XBox. I'm hoping that Skate 3 in May is rid of the stuttering.

The other reason I went with the PS3 is because I play Rock Band and I already have the PS2/3 guitar controllers and drum set, so it would be stupid to buy an XBox and re-buy those accessories.

The Blu-ray player is also a nice touch.

Just a thought as it really is becoming irksome reading the same thing here and everywhere else on the interweb ;)

Regarding the PS3

Can we please stop the 'when developers get to grips with the PS3 hardware' style posts.

We are 4+ years into development. If developers haven't got to grips by now - then it's unlikely they are going to. Those that have, then yes we will see continued refinement & improvements.

However this sudden leap that some people seem to think is suddenly going to happen, simply isn't.

For better or worse the 360 & PS3 are much of a muchness. There will be pretty games on both consoles. There will be 'slightly' poorer versions of multiplatform games one either console. That's it.......

If your fortunate to own both consoles, then fair enough buy whichever version suits your needs best (if its the slight graphical edge or multiplayer features). If your not a multi-console owner just buy the game and enjoy it for better or worse.

You don't have to feel insecure, you don't have to prove your sexual prowess or how high you can pee. Just get on with it.

Just get on with it.

57197.gif

Very well.

I own an Xbox 360 and I don't think that there is anything more to decide than personal preference. Most of the major games are multi-platform, so outside of a couple of a exclusive titles, thats a wash. Graphics and gameplay vary, though in my experience most titles seem to flow better on the 360 (had a horrible experience with Assasins Creed on PS3). I think the biggest difference is the controller (big hands, I love the 360 controller) and upcoming Natal, if you'd be into that.

On a side note, I don't like Blu-ray. I use iTunes or netflix and will never spend the money to buy Blu-ray discs. I think its an interesting discussion as to whether its even a viable long term video format. Blu-ray sales, last I knew, were very slow and downloadable/streamable content were crushing hard video sales. So that for me was a non-factor.

Please allow me to sum up this thread:

No console is "better" than the other. You get what you pay for in terms of online experience and blueray and the decision comes based on preferred features/games/controller and overall experience.

I'm happy with my PS3.

-I really don't see any games I would like on the X360

Why not? So far, every PS3 exclusive has been a flop.

-Graphics, PS3 exclusives have amazing graphics

Which don't look as good as Xbox 360 exclusives. Just compare Gears of War 2 to Uncharted 2. No comparison. Uncharted 2 has extremely low resolution and muddy textures. GoW2 has higher polygon counts and texture resolutions above and beyond anything on the PS3.

Real blu-ray players are better.

I am used to PS2 controls

I was too. It took all of 5 minutes to get used to the Xbox controller. The Xbox 360 controller is definitely the best controller of all controllers so far. It just fits in your hand perfect.

I like the design better (this is one of the main points for me as I value design over many other points)

The PS3 reminds me of a George Foreman grill. Not impressive at all. The Xbox 360 is smaller and draws less power.

Exclusives like GOW, Uncharted, LBP.

All games that haven't been nearly as successful as the hype would suggest.

I bought a PS3 because I like the home interface better

Home? The Second Life ripoff? Or XMB? At first, XMB was better than the "Blade" interface. But now the XNE interface is leaps and bounds above XMB. I have XMB on my blu-ray player and its a hassle to deal with.

I'm used to the PS/PS2 controllers

I was too. But as I stated earlier in my post, it took all of 5 minutes to adjust to the Xbox 360 controller. The design of the controller is definitely the best on the market and it just fits in your hand perfect.

I like the exclusive games (Uncharted 2 is AH-MAZ-ZING)

Sure, if you like linear boring interactive movies rather than actual games you can play and have fun with. Plus PS3 exclusives don't look as good as Xbox 360 exclusives.

and it's not made by Microsoft

Thats a silly reason to not like something.

I also think the PS3 looks better than the XBox

Again, to me, the PS3 looks like a George Foreman grill. The Xbox 360 looks like an actual game console.

I like how you don't have to pay for online service.

PS3 dev kits have been in the hands of developers for about 5 years now. The PS3's GPU is just plain weaker than the Xbox 360s. Watch the video in the link I posted.

Why not sell them and the PS2 stuff, since the PS3 isn't backwards compatible anywhere, and get the Xbox for a better overall game experience?

GOW = God of War

GeOW= Gears of War

Nope, sorry. Gears of War has always been "GoW". Plus the Gears of War series is far more successful than God of War, so it deserves the title ;) Gears of War 1 sold more than both God of War 1 and 2 combined.

I have both a 360 and PS3 and feel I can be objective on these consoles. I have however been through 10 360s due to RRod and only 1 PS3. For just that alone, get a PS3

Why not? So far, every PS3 exclusive has been a flop.

Um no
Which don't look as good as Xbox 360 exclusives. Just compare Gears of War 2 to Uncharted 2. No comparison. Uncharted 2 has extremely low resolution and muddy textures. GoW2 has higher polygon counts and texture resolutions above and beyond anything on the PS3.

LOL
Real blu-ray players are better.

It IS a real player. In fact it't the most future proof player there is with different revs of Blu-Ray out there

That is subjective. the 360 dpad sucks big time

The 360 also sounds like a jet taking off. The PS3 slim uses substantially less power than the 360 btw

I have NO issue with PS3 online

Subjective. After owning a 360 and going through 10 of them due to RRoD's I got a PS3 and like it much more

Sure, if you like linear boring interactive movies rather than actual games you can play and have fun with. Plus PS3 exclusives don't look as good as Xbox 360 exclusives.

LOL riiiiiight
Again, to me, the PS3 looks like a George Foreman grill. The Xbox 360 looks like an actual game console.
What does a game console suppose to look like?

You get what you pay for with the PS3 online service.

In my expereince, the PS3 online is great and it being free is very nice:rolleyes:

Not quite

Uh yes. The top 3 Xbox 360 exclusive games have sold more combined than every single PS3 exclusive combined so far.

Are you going to laugh or are you going to try to prove me wrong?

How about I post some links for you?

Uncharted 2: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2009/277/reviews/955125_20091005_screen028.jpg

Gears of War 2: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2008/307/938611_20081104_screen001.jpg

Look at the difference in texture resolution. The polygon count in the on screen characters is higher than the entire scene in the screen for Uncharted 2.

Uncharted 2: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2009/277/reviews/955125_20091005_screen035.jpg

Gears of War 2: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2008/307/938611_20081104_screen009.jpg

Again, look at the textures. Uncharted 2 can't even begin to compete. Then look at the polygon counts in the characters. Again, Uncharted 2 can't compete.

Should I go on? Watch that video I posted earlier. In fact, I'll post the link again: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-modern-warfare-2-face-off?page=3

The PS3 version of Modern Warfare 2 is not only running at an average lower frame-rate, but it's missing lighting effects!

That is subjective. the 360 dpad sucks big time

In your opinion. The last good d-pad on a game controller was the SNES d-pad. The Playstation d-pads have always been terrible. At least the Xbox 360 controller's directional pad is usable.

The 360 also sounds like a jet taking off. The PS3 slim uses substantially less power than the 360 btw

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10318727-1.html

Who says the Xbox 360 sounds like a jet taking off? You? Mines quiet. I install my games to the HDD (which takes less time than PS3 mandatory installs), so the DVD drive is quiet. Theres a little bit of fan noise which even TV speakers on a low volume setting will drown out. Oh and if the Xbox 360 DVD drive is loud, its because its spinning the disc faster than the blu-ray reader in the PS3 and it has a higher read speed too, which results in loading times that are, on average, half as long as PS3 games WITH mandatory installs ;) Even if you are playing off of the disc, TV speakers will drown it out. If you have a good surround sound system, you won't hear a sound from the console

The current Xbox 360 includes a 150 watt PSU. However, if you do some googling, you'll see that in real world use, the original PS3 used twice as much electricity as the Xbox 360. Which puts real world Xbox 360 power use around the same level, if not less than, the PS3 slim.

It IS a real player. In fact it't the most future proof player there is with different revs of Blu-Ray out there

I hate to burst your bubble, but the only "new" feature that old players can't take advantage of is BDLive. And just how many times in all of your years of being alive have you watched a movie online with other people on a website? Exactly. All blu-ray discs will play on all blu-ray players, its just that certain features might not be accessible. However, when it comes to A/V quality, thats where the PS3 fails against modern and cheaper blu-ray players. Even other Sony branded players.

All of them. As I said, Xbox 360's top 3 exclusives have, combined, outsold all PS3 exclusives combined.

I have NO issue with PS3 online

What does that have to do with the user interface?

Subjective. After owning a 360 and going through 10 of them due to RRoD's I got a PS3 and like it much more

Going through 10 of them? Yeah, you're telling the truth.

Don't forget that the YLOD and firmware bricking issues put the PS3's real world failure rate at exactly the same level as the Xbox 360's real world failure rate. It's just that Microsoft takes care of customers while Sony does not. Don't forget that the PS2 was notorious for DREs and it took Sony losing multiple lawsuits for them to finally help customers out, and they never refunded past charges for repairs. The original Playstation was known for failure too, but Sony never took care of it.

What does a game console suppose to look like?

Not like the thing in my kitchen that cooks burgers, thats for sure.

In my expereince, the PS3 online is great and it being free is very nice

Don't count on it being free forever. Lots of high level executives at Sony have started they want to monetize it somehow ;)

Also, my experience with BOTH online services, Xbox Live provides much more stable connections with better ping times and far less lag.

.......and the 360's cpu is weaker than the ps3's

First of all, no its not. The Cell is an architectural disaster. Benchmarks of PPC software have shown it to be slower in the real world than single core Power PC G5s. Second of all, when it comes to graphics, the GPU matters a lot more than CPU power. The PS3 is running a slower version of the GeForce 7800GT. The Xbox 360 is running a Radeon X1950XT equivalent. If you look at it like cars, the PS3 is a Mustang GT while the Xbox 360 is a Viper. Get the idea? Again, watch the video I posted. It shows just how much better the GPU is in the Xbox 360.

That is subjective. How about being objective?

How is it being subjective? The Xbox 360 has proven better game performance, it has proven more successful games, and it has two generations worth of games it can play.

Not quite

Yes quite. Gears of War 1 and 2 have sold 5 million each, for a combined total of 10 million. God of War 1 sold something like 2.4 million and the second game sold 2 million. Combined, the God of War series has failed to equal even one Gears of War game.

snippity snip of 360 love that I really don't care to debate on

Look, I have both systems and both are fine EXCEPT that the 360 has failed on me 10 times vs NONE for the PS3. Yes, I have gone through 10, no joke..... here is a similar post I had made before I had even more (3 since then) fail on me...

https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/6530836/

To say that the 360 is better than the PS3 or vice versa depends on your preferences

If you are going to start going into performance, then why the **** are you gaming on a console in the first place as opposed to a pc?

In the meantime, have fun playing on a system that is highly prone to fail, costs money for online, and can't play Blu-ray.

Heck, I used to be a big fan of the 360 and despised the PS3 until the damn thing would just break on me time and time again resulting in me buying a play-station of any kind in the first place

Who says the Xbox 360 sounds like a jet taking off? You? Mines quiet. I install my games to the HDD (which takes less time than PS3 mandatory installs), so the DVD drive is quiet. If you read the link, the slim uses about half the 360....

And yes, the 360 drive is VERY loud in comparision to the PS3

Don't forget that the YLOD and firmware bricking issues put the PS3's real world failure rate at exactly the same level as the Xbox 360's real world failure rate.

Please stop spreading FUD
