Can you upload us a picture so we can better understand? Of all the 360 complaints I've read in countless forum postings (with the vast majority of them being legitimate), yours is pretty odd.

Sure thing. But can't right now... in a few hours I probably can though. And it's not really a complaint.. just an example =]

EDIT: Maximum attachments is 5 So i'm attaching the PS3 'Media' Picture in this one..

Sorry for double posting, but here are some pictures of what I mean. It's kinda hard to see in photographs due to all pixels being visible etc... (Would have been better if I could have done a screen shot =]) But Hopefully you can see that the text rendering on the PS3 is clearer... (For comparison of 360 'media' and PS3 'media' look at post above..)

Maybe I'm just being naive here but if your into gaming why not just by both? I know that many games are released on both but each has some exculsives that I could see it worth doing.

Maybe they can't afford another console? When I was at uni I could barely afford games let alone consoles .

That very well may be the case. I tend to look at things as someone who is pushing 40 where $200 to $300 is no big deal if its something I enjoy doing. I suppose if I was 20 and in college again I may not look at it that way.

I think I may buy one. I mean, I would love to, but that'd be sort of my personal X-mas present.

I love that USD/EUR exchange rate, hope it continues this way, that'd mean more PS3 to me :D

Do you think the ps3 is end of life? What if i buy one now? Does it makes sense or will a ps4 be released shortly (shortly = before 2012).
Thanks

PS4 will NOT be around in 2012, it will more than likely be 2014/2015 as Sony were talking about a 10 year life of the PS3. Expect E3 2013 to be the part where they start showing 'tech demo's of the forthcoming hardware for release the following year.

360's successor will likely be before the PS4 with 360|Natal scheduled for next year and 2012 most likely the time of its proper successor.

Wii's successor however (WiiHD) will likely be before both Microsoft and Sony.

10 years....well if a competitor releases a console that is higher end than the PS3 and customers buy it they will be obliged to release the PS4...they said 10 years too for the PS2 and i beleive it means they will release games during 10 years. They continue to release games for the PS2...
Anyways i actually have a credit note for 450euros in a famous French hi-tech products providers and it is due end of the month...i was hoping they would release a new MBP but they did not...so i need to find somehting to buy....yeah i know this is quiet a nice problem i am having now :) but i don't want to buy a end of life product.

Xbox 360 has prominent feature of integrating Xbox Live service that allows players to compete online and download content such as arcade games, game demos, trailers, TV shows, and movies.

I bought a PS3..i never had a PS before and it's been a long time i did not have a console. Anyways...i also bought a blueray movie and i am extremelly disappointed with the super high noise the PS3 does while i watch a movie...in my living room during silent scene it is really really annoying...I guess it is the last time i watch a movie on the PS3.

The noise is the same when i play a game but it does not disturb me so much as when you play you are in an active mode while you are in a passive mode when you watch a movie.

And i heard the od PS3 was worse and that the Xbox360 is worse too...OMG!

Any thoughts here or is it just me being picky...

That's why people buy dedicated Blu Ray players. Consoles are noisy, simple as.

Fortunately i did not buy it for the BR...but i thought i would not be so bad...I guess you're right...the day i wil become a BR buyer (once it will be less expensive) I will buy a dedicated player.

I think the 3rd gen Xbox will be out before the PS4. Microsoft jumped the gun and released the 360 before Nintendo and Sony, and it seemed to help them with sales. Now that they are on a slightly different schedule, I think the next Xbox will be out first too. (random thoughts, assuming that the console life is equal for all three consoles)

Did you get a slim or one of the old ones? If you picked up one of the old ones, return it and get a slim, seriously. The slims are a good amount quieter.

A Slim and as you said i was told it is quieter vs the old one but still i find it way too loud when watching a movie! Unless you watch a 100% action movie covering the slim fans...This is why i think a the PS3 BR reader is not a real added value for those who really appreciate watching movies in good conditions....meaning listening to a movie only whithout a background noise...

I would strongly recommend a PS3.

Firstly, one of the best thing about the PS3 is that it has free online play and you do not need to pay a monthly fee for online uses unlike the xbox gold service, of course the xbox silver service is free but you can only download certain demos for free on the silver.

The PS3 has one of the best online network support IMO, it is free although Sony has said that it may charge a fee in future for exclusive content although thats only for exclusive videos or wallpapers, not gameplay. So in terms of networking, if money is an issue, i think the PS3 wins hands down.

Secondly, you asked about FPS games. IMO, i think that FPS games are best suited to play on the computer where you have a mouse and keyboard but playing it on the console is alright too. Both consoles have nearly the same FPS games like borderlands, MW2 and so on. So i think that this is a tie.

The PS3 is also in the middle of its cycle with Sony only announcing that it may or may not only release PS4 in 2012 although i read this in gamesfaqs forum so i cant be certain about this. The XBOX 360 is already nearing its end of its cycle and you will only get to squeeze around a year or at most 2 years out of it.

Another factor to take into consideration is that the PS3 utilizes bluray technology and it certainly has a much better future than the dvd drive the xbox uses.

And with both of the consoles around the same price, i'd say go with the PS3, you cant go wrong there.

I gotten my PS3 in late 2007 and i have not regretted my choice as yet.

A ten year lifespan means that it will continue to release games for the console for 10 years but at the same time, a PS4 may come into production.

Look at the PS2, a classic example, its still going strong even with the production of the PS3.

I don't know how anyone could rank the PS3 as equal to the XBOX 360 in terms of online play. The PSN is pretty meager compared XBOX Live. I don't care if it's free or not.

There's no system-wide voice chat, in-game music or party mode. The in-game XMB is very slow to load and pretty bare bones (a lot of XMB features are not available in-game). The one software advantage it has over the 360 is the Internet browser, but it renders Web sites poorly (nothing like the Opera browser on the Wii).

While the PS3 does have built-in 802.11g wireless, it should be mentioned that by Microsoft offering the wireless dongle seperately they had the option to release a new 802.11n dongle that should make media playback and Media Center Extender support much smoother. I don't have a problem with Microsoft offering the wireless dongle seperately. However, I do have a problem with them overcharging customers for it (it retails for around $99).

The PS3 also has some weird quirks that I don't fully understand. Why do some games require a hard drive install? Why do I have to install trophies before playing a new game? Why are patches installed outside the game instead of within like the 360? Why are firmware updates complete OS images (100MB+) instead of just patches?

It's like Sony designed the PS3 to be a computer rather than a game console, and that's annoying.

There are some minor capabilties that the XBOX 360 has that the PS3 doesn't do (like Netflix, the upcoming Twitter, Last FM and Facebook update, ability to send messages, add friends and mark items to download via www.xbox.com, Media Center Extender (DVR via PC), etc). A few similar capabilities are available on the PS3 also just not in North America (the VidZone music video service for the UK, PlayTV for the UK and AUS, etc). Every reigional Sony division (SCEA, SCEE and SCEJ) has a different opinion on what the PS3 is supposed to be so their features and services aren't streamlined across their different divisions, which is very frustrating to consumers.

Personally, I would purchase what all my friends have. There's no point in owning an online capable console if you don't have any friends to play online multiplayer with. I have the "uber-special' 60GB PS3 which has PS2 backward compatibility and media slots. If it wasn't for that, I would have sold it a long time ago.

Even with all atrocioius hardware problems and the $35/year Live Gold subscription, the 360 is still the better of the two IMO.

I should note that I have a Jasper also, and it's quieter than my 60GB PS3. In fact, it's dead silent unless I have a DVD or game in the disc drive.

I dont agree with your first two points. (in bold) Firstly, certain games on the PS3 offer us the option to install the game on the hard drive to aid loading time, i think that this is quite a wonderful addition.

The patches are not disc-based which explains why the patches has to be installed outside the disc. This allow the game makers to refined their product and fix all bugs even once the game is already on the market. This is just like most of the PC games which gives you the option to download additional patches to refine the game and fix it, think Football Manager.

Secondly, as of the latest firmware update the PS3 has, facebook is integrated onto our xmb for us to use and connect with our friends over our latest trophy achievements and what we purchase from the PSN store.

Lastly, i have to agree with your last point. If all my friends are playing their games on the xbox360, it wouldnt make sense for me to purchase a PS3 so i agree with your stand and i believe that my friends play a huge part in deciding the console i purchase.

That’s not what I was referring to. I was specifically referring to games that require hard drive and trophy installations before playing them, which unfortunately is most on the PS3 platform.

The PS3 handles both of these along with game saves like a computer rather than a console. The last thing anyone wants to do is wait 10 minutes while trophies are installed for the game you just purchased.

I know the patches are not disc-based. However, the 360 manages to patch games in little to no time once you launch a game title. The same can’t be said for the PS3. The PS3 actually first quits the game, then proceeds to launch a downloader, downloads each update individually, patches the game data and relaunches the game. It’s much quicker and seamless on the 360 side.

Additionally, I recently got a new hard drive for my PS3, then proceeded to load up Little Big Planet. I had to install 10+ game updates (I want to say it was around 16 or so) before I could even play.

This has nothing to do with patching the game and everything to do with how the PS3 handles the patches. Again, like I mentioned above, it handles this more like a computer than a console.

There are other problems too regarding patching. For example, I happen to own several SingStar discs. If you don’t know SingStar is karaoke game that happens to be sold packaged at retail with the full blown game and whatever tracks come bundled with that volume (Pop, Latino, Vol. 1, etc). It’s not like Rock Band where expansion discs are sold and you need to own the original game. You can pick up any volume and begin playing, which is great.

However, instead of just patching the SingStar engine once for all the different volumes, you have to download patches for each individual disc. Since I have four SingStar discs, I’ve downloaded SingStar update 1.04 four times and that update has takes four times the hard drive space (and it just compounds which each new update).

Secondly, as of the latest firmware update the PS3 has, facebook is integrated onto our xmb for us to use and connect with our friends over our latest trophy achievements and what we purchase from the PSN store.

Sony had not yet announced Facebook support when I posted above. However, the PS3’s Facebook integration is pathetic compared to the 360’s. And I’m not even a fan of the 360’s Facebook implementation (at least you can view Facebook profiles on the 360).

The problem with Sony is they’re always one step behind and their attempts are half-arsed (built-in PSN Store, in-game XMB, PSN Video Store, Netflix, Facebook, etc). Always. No matter how superior their hardware is or the fact that they are major media conglomerate with a record label, movie studio, television studio, software division, game division, among other assets.

Maybe with the new corporate restructuring they announced last month, things will change. I doubt it.

The PS3 handles both of these along with game saves like a computer rather than a console. The last thing anyone wants to do is wait 10 minutes while trophies are installed for the game you just purchased.

Trophies are generally built in to new releases, and need a handful of seconds on the first play to register and install. Take MW2 as a case in point - I popped the disc in, the Trophy installer bar zipped across the screen for about 3 seconds, and job done. It's a one-off install, whereas you're making out that you have to do it every single time.

If an older game gets patched for Trophies then yes, it can take a little bit longer. Force Unleashed took a whole 10 seconds to install, and once again it was a one-time thing.

Personally, I don't get what your problem is. Are you that short of time you can't wait for a few seconds the first time you play a game to let it do a quick Trophy install?

Secondly, not all games need HDD installs. I have around 30 titles currently, and I'd reckon about a third do. I'm not going to begrudge a HDD install either - it speeds up loading times. Sony made it easy to upgrade your HDD, but even then the current PS3s offer 120 and 250GB capacities, which is plenty even when taking installs into account.

I have a 360 and am happy with the games that have arrived such as Halo (1,2&3), GOW (1&2), L4D (1&2), Borderlands, MassEffect (1&2). Mostly I'm into FPS, RPG, Adventure, and sometimes RTS, although I seemed to have burned out on RTS. I played Oblivion and am playing DAO on PC.

What are the kick ass PS3 exclusive games I'm missing?
Thanks!
