Call of Duty 4 for Mac Now Available

So many restrictions. This would run on my MBP, but I'll probably just get it for the 360 since I've already beat the single player and have all my multiplayer stats and stuff on my live account even though I don't own the game yet.

It runs great on my iMac 3.06Ghz

Smooth as silk. Although the Mac gets hot.

Anything runs smooth as silk at 800x600 , with all effects turned off, and no lighting. There is NO way that iMac runs anything close to pretty. SLI 8800GT at 1920x1200 just keeps it running along at 30-50fps

this is a great game... anyone who calls themselves a gamer needs to have played this, on a mac, pc or console. it is great!

I had a customer who wanted to buy this the other day and he had just bought a MacBook (not an inexpensive computer), and I had to break the news that the game was incompatible with his computer. Granted, most knowledgeable gamers could guess that if they knew about the IGP in MacBooks. Still, it was a little bit embarrassing. Apple needs real graphics chips!!!

I've run it at 1344X840 with the 8800GS w/512 VRam just fine. I never noticed any lag when the action got fast.

Hey guys can anyone tell me if this game will run on a macbook 2.16ghs core 2 dual core with 950 gma graphic thing. Also what the hell is cider port???

Wirelessly posted (6300i: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

Finished it in veteran.. No need to play it anymore

Same here, finished it on hard on PS3 and Veteran on 360, absolutely amazing game.

Awesome, this should run well on my
Mac pro. I've been waiting so long for this release. I've been really enjoying the ps3 version though. Call of duty 5 in November for consoles!

Unfortunately I have already purchased this on windows to play via bootcamp...

What do you mean unfortunately?

Pretty much all ported games on OS X run like crap, why would you even bother. Windows is where you should do all your gaming on an intel mac.

Note to Apple: better graphics processors in your consumer Macs please, or a consumer-priced tower. Thank you.

A better graphics card isnt going to run a crappy port any better.

Good news.. but I hope they realise crappy sales will be due to the late release rather than a lack of interest.

I like Aspyr.. they did a pretty good job with Guitar Hero 3. This should be good.

Cider ports might be ok eventually (they perform rather well, but the kernel panics are ldihweifyhewfyaduhgf;adsf) but for now, I'm not bothering with anything that's not native.

So why don't you try to run R6 Vegas on a 6200LE at 1680x1050?

Then give me a call to say how it ran.

For years people are asking Apple to make something between the consumer iMac and the Mac Pro, where we could upgrade at least a gfx card, but they are to busy thinking how to just make money and giving a **** to this.

Would a dual core in a plastic box like the PM G4 hurt the sales of the quad and octo core Mac Pro? I don't think so.

Also what the hell is cider port???

Just the exact Windows game inside a container...called a Cider wrap. Since the new Macs use Intel chips, they can run PC Games on the fly. You can right-click and go to 'Show Package Contents' for the game, and then it'll have 'Program Files/Call of Duty 4/Call of Duty 4.exe' or something similar, with all the files that are in the Windows version.

Downside is the performance isn't as good as it could be if it was a proper Mac version, and I've found them to be quite unreliable. Tiger Woods 08 is terrible.

i think this is great to see this released for the mac. too bad it took longer to get released than the pc version, but better late than never

I agree. I thought the new trend was to release various versions of softwares at pretty much the same time but I guess it's not... yet... :(

Great news! If it happened back in January.

CoD4? Great game, own it, played it. Back in Nov last year.

Apple really need to devote some resources into helping the Mac gaming scene. Their lack of a mid-range tower has actually led me to switch AWAY from the platform as I'm going to build myself a gaming PC.

I've been a Mac user for 15 years, shame huh?

I've been waiting for this one!

I actually got CoD4 for the PS3 as a gift from my g/f, back when it was new - but we broke up over the summer, and she took it when she left! (Grr!)

I found it frustrating to play with the PS3 controller anyway, though - and never got very far in it. I'm so used to the keyboard/mouse combo for 1st. person shooters, and generally try to only buy titles on my PS3 that make more sense to me as being paired up well to their controller.

Since then, I figured I'd just wait for the OS X version to come out, and buy it. So this is good news!

Meh. No big deal there. Everyone that wanted to play it already did, and does on their 360 or with a PC. I don't think this is going to be a big seller... hehe

That's true. In fact, Aspyr is to blame on several fronts:

1) GameAgent store only available for North America;

2) Ridiculous DRM restrictions for downloading and registering/unregistering CoD 4;

3) While CoD runs all maxed out on my new iMac, I simply CANNOT play CoD 2 because, for a game MUCH newer than CoD, Aspyr does not support the 8800GS on most new iMacs...so we are still waiting for a late patch.

As for CoD 4, most reports seem to say that the 8800 iMac would run it just fine in top resolutions...between 30 and 60 fps.
