This all sounds like a bunch of complaining for nothing. Now, I don't play games on computers but I know what people do with the whole dedicated servers. Get over and move on. Infinity Ward won't be affected by this. The game will still be incredibly successful, hence is why they are sticking to their guns.

You don't play on computers, and are therefore clueless about the infinitely superior flexibility afforded by them.

If Infinity Ward said "we decided to charge PC gamers $10 more for an inferior, dumbed down, gimped port of our console game", I would have no issue.

I'd pay more for a PC version that DIDN'T bring the online experience down to the level of the console version.

However, IW has said that money isn't the motivating issue, they say that this move is a "conscious effort to improve their game for the vast majority of their players". That is likely a load of...baloney. Jason West and Vince Zampella were then asked why they didn't just do both. West said that he "does not want to include dedicated servers alongside the custom-built backend, stating that it would just "bifurcate the community."

In other words, their motivation is that all CoD players can experience one big group hug. A lovely, unified gaming community. Naturally, it has nothing to do with IW's new capability of charging $$ for additional maps, or other custom feature themselves, instead of letting modders do it.

If they had said that piracy was the issue, I could understand their position better . However as reported in this article, their lame excuses are clearly just plain disingenuous.

You've tested IW.net and can speak to its performance?

No? Then don't pass judgment.

I feel the same way. What if IW.net is awesome, and private matches perfectly suit your needs?

It just sort of seems like people are getting up-in-arms over nothing. Currently.

When it comes out, and it does not meet what you feel is satifactory, you can then make some big Twitter petition. I just just dont understand the big deal. I dont play computer games, but you petitioners have not tried the new player matches or IW.net.

its not call of duty.just modern warfare 2. they dropped call of duty. and if i have the money im getting it the night it comes out, staying up all night beating the campaign, then pwning some noobs online.:D

It has been on for a while. First it was meant to be just Modern Warfare 2 but they did some kind of a research that showed that the title "Call of Duty" will boost the sales by 20%, IW decided to add it. If you look at the cover art, you see that it was meant to be just Modern Warfare 2.

Just got an email from Game to say that mine is being packed prior to dispatch!

Unfortunately it will probably be sitting with the courier until release day rather than getting here early.

Did any of you guys get it early(legit). I'm playing right now!

Scared to play online though. Can they ban me?

REgardless of if it's legit, you'll be banned, group of people I know that worked at a game store played Halo 3 online a few days before release, all their Xboxs got banned.

Of note, the airport level where you play a terrorist is so much fun, if slightly unhinging.

wowww, go to justin.tv and search, you can watch hq streams of multiplayer. alot of people got legit copies of the game and i don't believe they will be banned. but if you downloaded the iso and flashed your 360 you will be...

I took the chance and played online yesterday. So far I'm not banned.

The airport level. Wow! What a powerful, scary, fun moment. I felt like the terminator. The music was amazing.

I received COD4 when it came out two days early. I played online and did not get banned. As long as you have a legit copy you are not doing anything wrong. Plead ignorance, its the company you brought it from's fault.

Halo 3 was unique in that way, AFAIK. I've been playing on line, as have many of my friends, w/no problems. I've also played a number of other games before the street date w/o a problem. MS was just swinging the ban hammer w/Halo 3 because that was their crown jewel game.

The single player story is amazing, IMO. I punched thru it on regular in 5.5hrs 'cause I just couldn't put it down. IW does linear gameplay like few others.

Can you get this on mac or is it for ps3 pc etc?

as i am not sure if i want to get it for computer or ps3

At the moment you can only buy it on xbox 360, PS3 & PC. If you have a mac with a decent graphics setup you could run it very well in bootcamp.

I already know 7 people who have been banned from Live. They didn't even play online but got banned anyway.

BTW, leaderboards will be reseted tomorrow

No, but you may have all your scores and stuff reset on the release date.

People aren't getting banned for playing games, but for having modded 360s. Every year Microsoft has a "ban wave" and will ban whoever they find to have a modded 360, regardless of what games they play.

It may come out for Mac, but not initially. Mac is generally not very well-supported by many online games.

COD4 ultimately came out for Mac at some significant period of time after the PC release. I found it to run rather poorly on my Mac Pro under OSX, and really quite well under XP via BootCamp.

The other problem with the Mac version has been that version updates come more slowly and not at the same time as the PC version updates. That generally means that there is often a period of time where players under OSX can't play on PC servers that have been updated to the new version, and wouldn't be able to unless and until IW elected to finally provide the update to the Mac version.

I confess it's been awhile since I've even tried to play COD4 natively under OSX. The game runs great for me under XP/Bootcamp so I have no real need, plus under XP I can still run an RCON management tool (ModernRCON), and Ventrilo.

See, I'm puzzled about you two guys that want to lob in your opinions about something you admit you know nothing about. Online PC gaming with it's clans, mods, custom rules etc, is a culture all in itself. Those of us that have been part of that for any length of time (in my case, 12 years since the release of Quake II), are distressed at having that culture interrupted. And based on IW's description of IWnet, it is a radical enough departure that a probable majority of PC gamers are ...uh...skeptical.

Anyway, don't get your panties all in a bunch over my position. All I did was cancel my MW2 pre-order (reportedly, Amazon lost more than $200,000 in cancelled pre-orders). If my fellow PC gamers who actually understand the situation (unlike you) tell me that IWNet is OK, then I'll buy the game.

If any game from any studio did what IW is doing then I'd refuse to buy it too. Console gaming is the poorer cousin of PC gaming, its a fact. To bring that to PC's too is just ridiculous. Yet another reason why I love Valve is in their newer games you can pick an official server or 3rd party. Choices! Not limitations like what IW are forcing upon us. I mean what happens in years time if/when their server goes down... It happens all the time, it would basically mean you can no longer play online on a £50 PC game. If anyone thinks that's a good thing then, well, you're beyond help.
Hopefully it impacts them enough to get them to change their mind on the issue.
