WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CAMERA APP

Purchased camera+

Anyone know of a good (hopefully free) app that takes care of red eye issues on the iphone?

no prob! I think it's somewhat new, having come out in the last month or two. Could be wrong, but that's what it seemed like from the reviews I read prior to the purchase. It was .99 for a while, but 1.99 isn't bad either for what it does.

Just bought Camera+.... looks WAY nice.

Anyway to get rid of the splash screen and go straight to the screen to take pictures?

I hate it when it loads then you have to click the take pictures button... I want to press the app icon and BA< ready to takes pixs

Even with just the built-in camera app, the camera on this phone is right up there with dedicated P&S cameras of just a few years ago. It's shockingly good when you consider that it's "just" a built-in camera on a cell phone.

I have a Canon S3 IS (a damned fine camera just three years ago), and I'm almost convinced that the light metering on the iPhone 4 is better than my Canon (based just upon some washed-out pictures I took of white Austin stone in the sunshine, that washed out all on their own with no fill-in flash, camera set to "Av"). The trick with the phone is to tap a spot that adjusts the brightness of the photo to what you want before you shoot. Given adequate depth-of-field, this works great.

Yes, I know I could do better with the Canon with more practice, and the image stabilization beats the iPhone 4, but for a punter photo klutz, the iPhone 4 is easier to use and can produce some truly stunning output with just a little care.

I just bought this app and I have to say thanks for the recommendations! I'm having allot of fun with this and I've purchased all the extras to go with it. I think this will be my favorite app of all time!

What's the Hipstamatic app do? I've always been confused by that.

It allows you to take pictures in it with different filters/settings.

The filters/settings are defined as different 'cameras' (available as in-app purchases at 99 cents if you want more than the default free ones) as well as different films (again, in-app purchases unless you enjoy the free) AND in-app purchases of diferrerent flashes.

I don't want to know how much I spent for the app, every damn available film, flash, and camera...but I bought them all. It's just a great app.

I just HATE how when you're shooting the camera you can never get the full-camera view, only the viewfinder. when you can't see exactly what you're shooting it makes it hard to know the effect you are going to get. I really really really really hate that, sometimes to the point I want to complain to the developer. lol

In the settings you can change the Viewfinder Mode to "Precision Framing". You still only preview the image through that small viewfinder, but it shows you what your image will contain.

I purchased Hipstamatic, but I wasn't really impressed. I sort of regret buying it. I know I can buy other add-ons, but I don't want to waste more on an app I'm not very pleased with. I just don't really like the effects so far. I've never liked any photos taken with the blue "Jimmy" lens which takes yellow photos. I mostly just leave it on the John S lens.

Another gripe is that before the latest update I was able to use the Dreampop flash without the actual LED flash going off. I like the effect that it adds to photos, but I don't like that the LED flash goes off. I also don't like that I can't clear all of my "recent prints" without deleting each one one-by-one.

I really like Hipstamatic, but the thing stopping me from using it more is that I would prefer an original, untouched version of each shot too.

I've started using their other app SwankoLab for that reason, as it lets you apply similar filters to photos from your Camera Roll.

Yeah unfortunately, Hipstamatic's extra films & camera lenses are really what makes the app. I purchased them all, and considering that...probably spent well over $10 on the app. :( I think in-app purchases for 'full functionality' should be listed on the main Apple site that way you don't buy something only to find out SURPRISE!! buy more!!!

When I purchased Hipstamatic, I had actually gotten it confused with SwankoLab. I had read a review weeks earlier about SwankoLab, and in the review it had stated that it was made by the same people who made Hipstamatic, so when I wanted to purchase Swankolab the only name I could remember was Hipstamatic and purchased that one.

I assumed that I could edit photos from my Camera roll in the app, but that feature was left for another one of their apps...

I love Hipstamatic, but it is slightly pricey once you've picked up all the various in-app purchases. Nonetheless, the app is one of my favorites. There's an element of unpredictability and randomness to the results that beautifully replicates the spontaneity of an old toy camera. I picked up Camera+ for those times when I don't feel like waiting on the processing, but Hipstamatic is still my go-to app.

Hipstamatic definitely has a few strings attached with the extra lens/film combos. I did purchase two or three of the add ons and have had quite a bit of fun with them. That being said, the Camera+ app is by far the most complete functional app out there. As far as future revisions to the app.. I agree, it would be easier if the thumbnail went directly to the camera making it immediately ready for P&S. Also, something that would allow for video filtering would be great!

Keep the pics coming, love seeing them!!

They're adding a toggle for that next update.

Hipstamatic can take some great shots. Those are the Float and BlackKeys B+W films, if you're interested.

Camera+ looks decent, but I've actually been leaning a bit towards getting Lo-Mob instead. The effects look better, and supposedly there's a new version under development. Any experience with it? It's around #60 or so in the Photography category. I like that it doesn't put all kinds of effort into being a replacement camera, because on of the main problems with the current Photo Roll API is that they can't save EXIF information. I'd rather use the built-in camera and get my EXIF information such as geotagging, and then post-process later if desired.

Here are a few taken with just the stock camera, no app, no post processing. The JPEGs aren't the highest quality, but you get the idea. I think this camera, in great lighting, creates fantastic, sharp images. Top 2 were taken with the sun out, bottom two at dusk.

I bought all of the add-ons, too.

There is a way to change the view so you can see more of the photo you are taking. Check the settings.

I have lo-mob, too. I like that you can take photos first, then add various filters. It is definitely worth buying.

Best Hipstamatic Photos Yet!! Great job, keem them coming!

I rather buy a point in shoot camera. There is no camera on any smartphone worth buying the phone for. Take pics of a lot of white stuff an you'll see green **** on the screen. I would love to see a phone that takes better pics then a point in shoot.

iPhone takes better pics than many old 3-5 MP point and shoots from 7-8 years ago...

Of course if you compare it to something newer like a Canon SD780IS it is going to look worse. I would sure hope so when you are paying just for a camera and nothing else, that is its primary purpose. It also has a bigger lens and sensor.

The difference is most people always have their phone on them. Most people don't always carry a P&S or DSLR. So in terms of cell phone cameras the iPhone's is pretty awesome.
