so from what I'm reading...you cant take a picture in Camera+ and import it into your camera roll without losing the geotagging, correct? That sucks! I had wanted to purchase and use it as my "main" camera on the phone.
Camera + is great. What is a good panoramic app? Autostich?
It's an Apple limitation, even in iOS4. I'm an iPhone developer and I looked into it. There is no way to save EXIF data into pictures sent to the Camera Roll using the public APIs. Hipstamatic does the same thing... it keeps EXIF data internally, but it gets stripped when exporting to the camera roll.
This angers me deeply, as developers have been asking for this for years and Apple does nothing. It really cripples just about every photo app... you can either choose to have your EXIF information make it onto your computer by using only the built-in camera, you can use a third-party photo app which strips it, or you can painstakingly email your EXIF-enabled images to yourself from the third party apps that support that and put them onto your computer manually.
I'm thinking about writing a jailbreak app (once the iPhone4 is jailbroken) to rip these images from the bundles of the apps I use and force them into the camera roll so they can be synced. It's absolutely ridiculous that this isn't supported.
Thanks for *finally* providing a straight answer on this - really strange that it's a limitation from Apple - can't see any reason why they wouldn't want developers to be able to write EXIF to Camera Roll photos. I've tried to ask TapTapTap (Camera+ developer) about this on their blog and via twitter, but radio silence.
Will keep an eye out for your JB app![]()
I have used all the pano apps. I prefer AutoStich. Here are some examples on my blog. http://www.husar.us/blog/archives/8258 The last three will make great prints.
The thing I don't like about Pano is you are limited to 6800 pixels wide or is it 6700? I have not hit any kind of limit with AutoStitch and with the iPhone 5 some of my panos have been 9000+ pixels wide.
