Here are 2 of clouds I took early Saturday morning in Phoenix.

so from what I'm reading...you cant take a picture in Camera+ and import it into your camera roll without losing the geotagging, correct? That sucks! I had wanted to purchase and use it as my "main" camera on the phone.

Once it hits the camera roll the geotag is lost. You can export it to Flickr, without losing it, but I think that's it. I tried to email out a photo from Camera+ and it appeared that the EXIF was stripped in that case as well (but that varies by app, Hipstamatic handles this fine).

So if geotagging is important to you, unless you have a Flickr pro account (so you can download your full quality images back out) you're out of luck currently.

Camera + is great. What is a good panoramic app? Autostich?

I have used all the pano apps. I prefer AutoStich. Here are some examples on my blog. http://www.husar.us/blog/archives/8258 The last three will make great prints.

The thing I don't like about Pano is you are limited to 6800 pixels wide or is it 6700? I have not hit any kind of limit with AutoStitch and with the iPhone 5 some of my panos have been 9000+ pixels wide.

It's an Apple limitation, even in iOS4. I'm an iPhone developer and I looked into it. There is no way to save EXIF data into pictures sent to the Camera Roll using the public APIs. Hipstamatic does the same thing... it keeps EXIF data internally, but it gets stripped when exporting to the camera roll.

This angers me deeply, as developers have been asking for this for years and Apple does nothing. It really cripples just about every photo app... you can either choose to have your EXIF information make it onto your computer by using only the built-in camera, you can use a third-party photo app which strips it, or you can painstakingly email your EXIF-enabled images to yourself from the third party apps that support that and put them onto your computer manually.

I'm thinking about writing a jailbreak app (once the iPhone4 is jailbroken) to rip these images from the bundles of the apps I use and force them into the camera roll so they can be synced. It's absolutely ridiculous that this isn't supported.

Thanks for *finally* providing a straight answer on this - really strange that it's a limitation from Apple - can't see any reason why they wouldn't want developers to be able to write EXIF to Camera Roll photos. I've tried to ask TapTapTap (Camera+ developer) about this on their blog and via twitter, but radio silence.

Will keep an eye out for your JB app ;)

Lightbox and 2 finger focus/exposure

The Lightbox alone is worth $1.99.

That, combined with the ability to set focus and exposure separately, have made this my default camera app.

The filters? Well, they're cool enough, just not something I use much. I'm still on a 3G S, so the digital zoom doesn't do much for me either. I suspect I'll be really impressed when (and if) I upgrade to the iPhone 4. :apple:

I took this of my drums and used Camera+ to do the edit with the Hipster FX Effect. Not spectacular but vintage looking.

Loving all the pics.. very inspiring. I'm going to head out and try to capture a few new clicks!

Random pic. I was taking it just to show someone on Twitter the dent i got on my iPad ( :( ) and was amazed by how well it came out. I just love how great the focus is and how everything else is blurred. Love Camera+.

Gonna try it outdoors tomorrow.

What's especially frustrating is that they finally added built-in ability via a new data structure to manipulate EXIF information from within your app as part of iOS4. That's why Hipstamatic and others can successfully export images with EXIF data now.

But the data structure used to pass an images into the camera roll are still the old EXIF-incapable structures from iOS3 and earlier. I'm hoping it was just an oversight that 4.1 will correct, but I haven't had a chance to check out the betas. I can't say more, but there may be hope.

That said, as an official iOS developer I'm technically not allowed to create jailbreak apps without violating my developer agreement. I'll have to work something else out if it comes to that, which I hope it doesn't.

Thanks for the advice. Great Blog. I will be purchasing. I hope they release a new version.

I'm very impressed with both apps. I've been using hipstamatic for awhile. I downloaded all the extra's for it. I discovered camera+ this afternoon, and the little I've messed around with it, it's looking like a great replacement for the stock camera app.

1st pictures is hipstamatic, 2nd is camera+

am I the only person who thinks hipstamatic is garbage?! that is an app where I wish Apple had trial periods for. I would have never bought it had I played with it first. After some updates it has gotten slightly better, but I rarely use it. If they would finally break down and simply let me import photos to get effects of different filters/lenses, then maybe I'd use it more often, but they're stuck on not allowing that.

for the most part, I use camera bag and photoshop in combination of one another

I am absolutely loving the camera on the iP4. Here is a dog contribution to the thread (iP4 w/ Photo FX app I think).

Also, FWIW here are the apps I use. I finally broke down and bought Hipstamatic after trying not to. Too many good pics on the forums not to go and get it. I guess I need to get camera+ now too.
