Wow...
I'm not sure which is more pathetic: the guy who camps in line for a
week prior to a phone launch or the embarrasing amount of forum
members so miserable in their own lives/worked up by the seemingly
harmless actions of another they chastise others in (what?) an attempt to make themselves feel better.

Turns out, this is an easy one. The latter are far more pathetic.

Seriously people, look at all the anger and bitterness about a guy camping in line for a phone. Does this not alarm anyone else but me? I mean, is he doing anything that remotely effect your individual life? Then what does it matter to you? Does some random guy in Texas camping in a line threaten your personal health/safety/well-being or that of your family and/or friends? If so, you have much larger issues than a random camper in Texas.

There's a good lesson here. Individuals need to stop putting so much
energy towards what others do with their lives and focus more on what is making them so miserable in their own lives.

Life is short. Try and have a little more fun, while you can.

Who knew this was a tech thread? ;)

I agree with this, its a phone, someone could come on here just as easily and attack all of us for spending so much money on something we dont need instead of getting a cheap phone and giving the money to charity.

People really do get jealous about the dumbest things so easily.

How dare you, I am disabled! (Well, no but what difference does that make in this context?)

Frankly, get lost! You don't need to use bold text to make a point. Besides, I never went into speculations into the guy's condition. Whatever I said was based on facts listed in the article. You, on the other hand started some insulting personal speculations about things that you have no idea. I'm not speculating about your life, simply because I couldn't care less. You should do the same.

What I find most pathetic is that you moan about judging people while you are doing the same. You are just representing a dumb and soft approach that makes disabled people happy with feeling sorry for themselves. What disabled people need is purpose, opportunities, hope and tough love. Some of them COULD get their sorry ass up and find a meaningful work that involves sitting and waiting for a week in a tent! If not, then get a job as a museum attendant!

How ignorant YOU are! You cited my comment, yet failed to write anything that has any relation with what I wrote. One line for two long comments? It's not because your disability limits your actions, I hope.

No, actually its because I have a life outside of this forum: taking care of my children for the summer who needed to eat breakfast (oh, I must be a deadbeat/idiot/lazy for being a stay-at-home dad? No, I'm a teacher and I'm off for the summer, stuff it). You may be disabled, but if you are, then maybe you need to expand your knowledge of disabilities, which obviously is very limited from the rhetoric you're expelling on this board.

There's a big difference in our positions: my "moaning" is in defense of people, yours is in attacking people. I wouldn't be "moaning" if it wasn't for your painful comments. You say "I'm not speculating about your life, simply because I couldn't care less. You should do the same", why then are you trolling this thread for the sole purpose of caring how/why/what this man is doing? Ugh.

Also Arn and Mods, sorry for the mass amounts of "reports" you'll be getting, because I'm going to start defending the forum's rules. Think of the Golden Rule and you should be fine. if you don't know it: Treat others as you would like to be treated" pretty much sums it up

Hi everyone.

I have been following this post all night since the store closed. If you want to follow me, check the form here at this link.

In the meantime I'm going to address and answer a few things here.

1. I did not start this form. I simply originally started just camping out minding my own business until one the of MacRumors users came by to talk to me and invite me into the conversation.

2. I'm not doing this for attention. I'm doing because I'm a very committed and determined fan and enjoy it!

3. I mentioned I am disabled, but I never once every said anything about living on benefits. Quite frankly I don't believe thats anyone else's business except for me. However, I will tell you I have my own money in savings and will be paying with it then.

Hi Justin
good on you I think, if you enjoy it then you should do it, its nothing illegal (seems the apple store and police are okay with it all), its not like your bothering anyone, you seem like a friendly guy and have made the effort to come here and offer to answer questions and post photos.

just ignore some of those who are having a go and raging, its the internet, some people once they are behind that become complete tools who will take any chance to have a go at someone for the smallest thing, in other places such as japan things like you are doing is pretty normal, over there they can get really into what they like and as far as I see thats what you are doing and there is nothing wrong with that.

for all the people who are just being plain rude and insensitive and are being horrible because they can, I say just ignore them, what you do doesn't matter to them at all, its not like your doing anything to bother them, however as you can probs see there are others who have voiced support for it and said good things :), on the other thread I think the majority were saying good things and voicing support/wishing you well, anyway sounds like you could have a great time there, I hope you enjoy the experience :D

everyone, he seems like a nice guy, how would you feel if a lot of people who don't even know you start heavily criticising you and insulting you

Who said he called the news?

I didn't call the news, the Apple Store Staff did. I have been on every local major newscast, the newspaper and that all has spread over the world since last night to including Canada, UK, Germany and other countries.

I would not even do that for a free unlocked iphone 4. That is sad... he's camping out and most people are getting the phone delivered to their door the same day if not sooner. Are there not laws for randomly camping on a sidewalk, I mean this is a week before...Funniest thing would be if he is not in the right place or something and he wakes up and there are 4000 people in front of him in line.

Do you not read your own posts?

"I doubt he called the news and asked to be on it."

I believe the story was that a friend of a MR reader took the original picture and then sent it into a news station/website. Or something like that.

Hang in there Justin! I have to admit that when I first saw your story (on another site), I thought you were nuts to line up a week early (particularly with the heat). But now that I've read some of your own comments and reasons, I say, hey, MORE POWER TO YOU!!

BTW, just ignore the insensitive comments from some of these boneheads. They are entitled to their opinion and you're entitled to yours. And I applaud you for taking the high road and replying in a calm and reasoned manner, particularly in the face of so much self-righteous ignorance.

Feeling sorry for anything and being patronising destroys lives.

I feel sorry for you. I do. I am only 22 and I feel like I have more common sense and compassion for others than you do, which is sad.

What common sense are you talking about?!

The guy is able to camp outside a store in hot Dallas, yet cannot do any work?!

What compassion?! I know disabled people, in fact I've work with a few in pretty good jobs. Let's not get patronising that some disability prevents people from doing work. That is the most outdated and immature way of dealing with the problem. People should start taking responsibility over their own actions. If you can do some work, you should be looking for a job. Handouts only destroy lives.

There is no law that prevents me from doing what I am doing and all the police who have drove by are completely cool with it.

I'm in the right spot for the line. I'v been the first costumer for the past 2 years since 2008.

Consider him of a frickin vacation for a week. Honestly, why don't you worry about BP and the gulf coast before worrying about what this guy is doing. Mk? There are bigger problems in the world than how you view this guy.

I would never wait an entire week in line for something, that is absolutely nuts. Just curious why would you reserve the iPhone 4 if you are going to be waiting in line for an entire week at the front of the store anyways?

Thanks

As the camper. I ensure everyone here that no tax money will be used for when I make the purchase. I have my own money. See my earlier post.

I think it's great you've found something fun like this to do. Please be safe and take care of yourself.

Thank you for posting this update. I hope you can understand, people will wonder if a disabled person waiting in line for an iPhone is using government benefits. Myself included. I believe if someone were using government benefits for such, as a taxpayer, it's reasonable to have an opinion on the matter.

I hope you get the phone you want and use enjoy this time being "famous" online!

+1

I think we are expecting too much from this group here on MR.

If someone wanted to spend a week getting drunk, having sex and doing drugs they are celebrated.

Someone wants to spend a week sitting in front of an Apple Store they are insulted.

Dude, you seem to continually miss the point.

IF (and I said IF) he receives disability or some other taxpayer support, then it is complete BS to spend that money on his FOURTH iPhone. IF his parents fund his lifestyle, and not the taxpayers, then I and many others think he is dumb, but really couldn't care less what he does with his time be it getting drunk, high, and laid, or camping in front of an Apple story.

Why do you have so much trouble grasping that simple concept?

Oh, and by the way, IF (or I should say when) other idiots choose to receive taxpayer handouts to sit on their ass and play XBOX while smoking from their bong because unemployment pays better than the help wanted sign at Home Depot, I am equally as pissed.

EDIT: he seems to have chimed in saying taxpayer funds are not being used for this purchase. That however does not answer the question whether he receives disability. As I have said, and many others, if he doesn't receive disability, more power to him.

For your information. I have worked. I have my own business and set my own hours. What do you do besides sit here on a form all day?

Hi all,

It's around 10am were I am... what's news:

A) A crazy apple fan waiting for an iPhone before release - doing what he wants to do.

B) people spending time at 3am and 4am making multiple posts (100's of posts) getting all agitated on a apple board and whining about taxes and some apple nut that's doing what he wants to do.

We see (A) all the time. It's the first time I've seen (B) on Macrumors at such intensity.

A piano needs to drop on your head.

We're not reading about a disabled guy camping. That would be heartless. We're reading about a marginally "disabled" individual pitching a tent on a sidewalk a week in advance of a PHONE being released that he already has a pre-order for. That's just mock-worthy regardless of how many bleeding hearts like yourself say otherwise.

That's the thing... this is just ***** funny! Let's face it, if this guy wasn't 'disabled' ... we'd ALL be joking around about how silly the whole thing is.

Instead, because he dropped the D-word ... now some people seem to think he has to have a golden dome around him and no one should joke about what he's doing.

Get a sense of humor people!

More power to him

I say to each their own and if he wants to camp out for the iPhone so be it who am I to judge. I did the pre-order with the 24th delivery so that I wouldn't have to wait in line and hope I get one.

Well I think kernkraft makes a point that if he can camp outside a store for week he can work BUT

A. he has stated repeatedly that hes not doing this with benefits

and B. Even if he was you flaming will not make anything change

Why dont you go to your nearest BP station and lay down in the middle of the road. A lot more of your taxes are going to that oil spill than to this guys freakin cell phone. Trust me.

i hear ya except for last part... with destroying lives... such broad based sentiment would be something if true, but.. sometimes people need help, shouldn't we help them if possible?

No one likes unfair freeloading, corruption, etc.. too bad the powerful who do that get away with far worse results for society...

The difference is that some people are attacking him for his disability, that's what I object to. I have a great sense of humor until things get out of hand and people hyperbole his situation into being a washed out stoner who plays xbox and has Uncle Sam pay for his iThings, which he certainly isn't, just because he happens to also be disabled.

As someone who has lost opportunities due to ignorance about my disability, I take great exception to this type of ignorance and hate based on ignorance.
