That's the thing... this is just ***** funny! Let's face it, if this guy wasn't 'disabled' ... we'd ALL be joking around about how silly the whole thing is.

Instead, because he dropped the D-word ... now some people seem to think he has to have a golden dome around him and no one should joke about what he's doing.

Get a sense of humor people!

Exactly, he should have just said hes using his vacation to do this.

Reality check

Nice.. our taxes will pay for his iPhone?

Put your own question into perspective!, people should worry more about their TAX DOLLARS (BILLIONS of them) being spent on bombs and weapons to kill people all over the world.

Reality check maybe?

We went to the Chuy's across the street from this Apple store for happy hour last night and a few people at our table mentioned seeing this guy out there and we wondered why.

For your information. I have worked. I have my own business and set my own hours. What do you do besides sit here on a form all day?

see everyone, its his money, as he mentioned several times previously, he is buying the iPhone with his own savings, not from any benefits he receives, good on you Justin, thats a nice point you make :p, just ignore some of these people, its not like you put yourself on the news intentionally, I hope you don't get a bad opinion of these forums after some things people have said, in the other thread there is a lot of support for what your doing, and a lot of people who are happy for you to do what you want to do.

Have Fun :D

Oh look, it's the political correctness crowd.

Think logically about this for a second, how the hell can someone be so disabled that they physically can't work, yet they can manage to camp outside for a week in a city, in the heat, with the danger of all sorts of potentially dangerous people walking around outside at night?

what the hell does "potentially dangerous people" lurking about have to do with being disabled?

JEEZ! the guy didn't say he's camping out BECAUSE he's disabled, he said he had the time available because he doesn't work (which is due to his disability). Two very different things that you morons can't seem to compute.

and my god, is everyone a doctor now?!? you actually say that it is impossible for a disabled person who can't work to camp out for a week?!? I don't even know where to begin with that one! So you don't understand that seizure medication could impair one's ability to work? You don't understand that some disabilities prevent people from working in certain environmental conditions (lighting, ventilation, proximity to others, etc.) You don't understand that some disabilities prevent people from standing or sitting for certain periods of time? You don't understand that persons succeptible to seizures may not be able to work because of the unpredictability of the seizures and the consequences of having one on the job? You don't understand that someone can have a disability with some or all of these constraints, yet still be able to camp out - where they can sit, stand or lie down at will, eat and drink as necessary, take medications and monitor their vital signs if necessary, and basically live the same as they might at home?

I would like to know the scientific/medical premise for your assertion that no diabled person can camp out for a week in Dallas. I'm sure many disabled campers would as well.

Finally, I would never camp out for a consumer product, but the guy obviously had the right attitude - he said Hey, I don't work or go to school, I don't have anything else to do, and I thought it'd be fun to have a camping adventure and hang out at the Apple store for a product I really want anyway. That's a lot better than saying "I'm here because I would DIE if I weren't the first person to have this phone!" He seems fine - I suggest you take a cue from him and chill.

BTW, just ignore the insensitive comments from some of these boneheads. They are entitled to their opinion and you're entitled to yours. And I applaud you for taking the high road and replying in a calm and reasoned manner, particularly in the face of so much self-righteous ignorance.
What do you do besides sit here on a form all day?
LOL. So much for your knight in shining armor.

Most of the times when I post, I am either stuck at an airport or waiting for a cab/tube in the City or in Canary Wharf.

If you set your own hours, you should be more frugal with posts like these.

Okay, I'm done with this thread.

To the guy standing in line a week early, good luck to you, be safe, have fun, and don't let the negative comments bother you. Every single person leaving negative comments is fallible in some way in their own lives and has no right to judge you. Don't sweat it.

To the other people who support this guys right to not be critiqued for his illness or his decision to wait in line for a week, bravo to you, you're what's good in the world.

To the people judging this guy, you'll be judged too, for your own shortcomings, for your own decisions. You're not perfect and you should practice some empathy, some kindness and positivity. If you want to display your outrage at something, get involved with the BP issue as someone else suggested, direct your anger where it's needed.

At least most all of us share one thing in common, we're excited about the iPhone 4 and can't wait to get our hands on one. I hope the supporters and haters alike, all enjoy their iPhone 4's.

Why camp out to get a mobile telephone from a shop days before it is available?

Ok...I know you don't have blue hair (yet) but the coy photo of Churchill's Victory sign (surrounded by :apple: computers no less) is a fair substitute.

Will you be spending your time in the tent thinking of the Foxconn employees who made the iPhone for you on a daily wage comparable to the amount you spend on a skinny latte ??

Another message from the camper.

Since its been one the top topics on this form I figured I address that issue regarding to those thinking I'm paying with your tax dollars.

While it isn't anyone else's business how or what I pay with for a purchase, I will ensure everyone on this form I am not paying with disability benefits.

I have my own business and set my own hours and choose how much I want to make. I also am a former Board of Directors Member for my local Neighborhood Association and put in on average of 300 hours of volunteer work for different organizations annually.

Hope this clears this mess up.

Why did you say "I do not work due to the fact I am disabled with a seizure disorder" then?

Not working and owning your own business are pretty hard to mix up...

Too many people here don't care about facts, they want to just make wild accusations and sensationalist remarks. Welcome to MacRumors 2010.

He was intentionally misleading. If he owns his own business, why would he go out of his way to post "I do not work due to the fact I am disabled with a seizure disorder"??? It was a play for sympathy. People were making comments about that because it came straight from him; those WERE the facts and he has now changed them.

I'm actually camping out at my house with the AC blasting waiting on FedEx to to arrive at my doorstep on the 24th. :)

That's really tough.

Yes I did say I didn't work, and i did that in order to protect from people asking me and bugging me about it due to the high press attention.

I do work and have my own business, thats all i can share.

Ironically I literally fought during 3 tours in Afghanistan for your right to do what you're doing. So its partly my fault. DAMN ME!

Obviously, he meant he doesn't work a 9-5 job. He does his own thing that's compatible with his disability. Lighten up, show some understanding.

We don't have to agree with what he's doing, but attacking him, or anyone, for his disability is just plain wrong. Stop it.

Ok, so you brought up your disability for no reason other than attention. Got it.

And if you set your own hours, how have you not had a vacation in 10 years? Sigh. Why not just say "I'm taking time off work to have fun with this" instead of "Oh noes, I'm disabled and can't work... feel sorry for me plzzz"?
