I've read it over and over again, but I can't find where he says he is on disability benefits?

There's a lot of bashing on the assumption that he is claiming people's 'hard earned tax dollar', but no where does he state that or even allude to it. He may be one of the fortunate few who has a private income; it's not inconceivable.

While I agree that remarking on having disability and spending a week camping may raise a few questions, I am not in full possession of the facts, and I'm not about to judge the guy on spurious speculation.

I agree. We should remain impartial until the trial.

Get over yourself. He's not too disabled to work by any measure except that of a country run by an army of bureaucratic moms. I don't need any more facts. I can tell by the pictures.

Crazy People

I dont understand the mentality in waiting in line for something so inconsequential and futile.

I am sure most of these people are not well off however they have eaten so much BS that they hand over their precious livelihood so easily. Something is wrong with this society, for sure.

Where are your priorities in life?

Valid REASON, not excuse. An excuse implies something different.

While I do not agree with you totally, I see your point. Again - it is not an excuse but a reason.

I do agree with your well placed 'walk a mile' quote. I think the world would be much better if more people had EMPATHY and less smart-ass.

D

I have empathy for whoever is paying for his ass.

There is one crucial FACT we are missing here, and that is whether this guy receives any tax dollars. Most of us are guessing he does, and we are probably right. If he does not, I don't give a flying f#@k what this guy does with his time. But if he receives any tax money for his disability, then this is just one more example of people abusing a system put in place to provide for the basic necessities of those who can not provide for themselves. If I wasn't taxed as egregiously as I am, I would be getting a new iPhone 4 myself, but because a good third of my income is taken from me for, among other things, douchebags like this guy, I have to pass.

What is wrong with you people??:(:(

Have you never taken a week to do something you wanted to do, is it crazy to spend a week alone in the woods with a tent while killing and gutting deer? Maybe his condition makes it dangerous to be alone in the woods, maybe not, doesnt matter.

According to his posts he doesn't drink and hasnt had a vacation in 10 years, hardly a drain on society. That and if he is going to school then he would be out for the summer. Hes in his mid 20's!! That means he has been working since his mid teens.

This is not about the phone, if it was he would have gone the night before. If he was that obsessed then he would have known about macrumors before yesterday. By "Urban Camping" he is meeting people and having fun doing it.

Let's say this guy can't hold a job for some medical reason. Are you implying he is never to have any enjoyment out of life?

In the grand scheme of things, if he saves up some money to purchase an iphone, what difference does it make? Is that the life of luxury? If that is the limit of his enjoyment, is that really fulfilling? I'm sure you get more enjoyment out of life.

Basically you are saying anyone who needs help is not entitled to own anything or find any enjoyment out of life. That's the price.

Nice!

Good Luck !!! STAY STRONG !!!

Justin, I hope you have as much fun as I did when I started a line here in Miami - 120th and Kendall Dr.
I went the day before to the ATT store around 4pm to make sure I was able to get my phone the next day, went to my car, grabbed my beach chair and started the line....by 7pm there were 20 people, by 7am we had over 1,000 and 2 cops. My wife to this date thinks i was crazy for doing this.

I HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE, MET SOME VERY KEWL PEOPLE :)...hey the guy
behind me is a ER Doctor, and we became very good friends.

This was for the realease of the 3g, when they didnt have any pre-orders.

Please stay hydrated, avoid a heat stroke.

ENJOY THE STAY, I AM SURE YOU'LL HAVE A GREAT TIME - ROCK ON !!!!:apple:

"I do not work due to the fact I am disabled with a seizure disorder"

I dont mean to sound insensitive, but wow. Too disabled to work, but not so disabled that you can't setup a tent and camp out for a week in the Texas heat in June?

I agree, what he really meant is "I can work, but I'd much rather have you, the taxpayer give me disability checks."

J O B

Forget the seizure part, how will he foot the $130+ month tab to AT&T with no J O B ?

Disability benefit? Mommy and daddy? Inheritance?

Whatever it is, I can't believe that this story made this site. Two thumbs down.

I'm all for the new iPhone, but really?

Dude, your fingernails are dirty!

You don't need a phone, you need a good clean! And a life.

He stated he already has a pre-order for the new phone, so he's not waiting in line just to be the first one to get "the latest and greatest gadget." For him, it's clearly about the experience itself; I'm sure he's met (and will meet) lots of people interested in what he's doing, he'll eventually garner other linemates of similar interests with their own interesting stories to tell, he likes being a part of the launch event of a device that really is groundbreaking in a few ways, and it's something he's passionate about and interested in. It's not "sick" behavior and it doesn't make him a "sad" individual. Yes, everyone here has the "right" to speak their mind... I don't think anyone is questioning that. I just think it's rather surprising (and sad, really) how quick a great number of people seem to completely dismiss someone over something so insignificant. Chill with the vitriol...

My comment was actually less about this particular individual than about the idea of people lining up or spending hours trying to pre-order when they can just wait a day or two. Why waste time over that? I mean I saw comments on this board from people spending hours trying to order a phone the other day. Why? Just to have it on day 1?

he just got finished saying that he doesn't work because he's disabled. What's he talking about "vacation"?

Read post 163 (and the original article, for that matter) again. You don't have a good perspective on the situation.

I am really sorry for this guy and all others who spend hours in lines for some gadgets... and then they are going to spend days and weeks playing with those gadgets instead of spending time with their families.

Yes, but you should also feel sorry for yourself and the others, including myself, who squander their lives reading and posting to internet sites. We should also be better using our limited time on Earth.

Yes Sad

Its sad but not for the reason you quote. Its sad because people have no time for each other and idolize the wrong lifestyle/things/people. I dont want to personalize this too much but if he needs human contact I am sure there are better and more humane ways of doing so other than waiting for a Bl%$y phone. I hope there are!

Why does anyone want anything on day one? I don't know, "to have it first?" Because it's "new and exciting" and you don't want to wait? Do you wait until December 30th to pass out Christmas presents in your household because "there's no rush?"

Really, who cares? If the guy wants to "waste" his time sitting in front of an Apple store for a week, what does it matter to you? There are far worse things other people do on a daily basis, I assure you.

too sad...

Pretty sad in just so many ways. A week of your life in a tent to get a phone a few hours ahead of others?

That's awful.

Waiting in Line

I waited in line for two hours for the iPad 3G. I was eighth in line. It was a pretty hot day, so I sat in my foldable chair in front of the store. With an hour to go, mall security said I had to not sit in my chair, because it gave the impression that it was a sporting event. My nine year old granddaughter joined me with an hour left for her first mac fanboy line. Now, I am not handicapped, so I could stand, and I am in fairly good shape for an old screw, but still... I could see the headline in the next day's paper: "71 year old man dies of heat stroke waiting for his iPad".
