If they don't update. Oh well. Will I be disappointed? Oh yeah. But, I have already prepared myself to wait til it happens. And I think the others who are waiting have done the same.

Yep, pretty much. I'm buying when they upgrade. I figure the absolute latest it could happen is around the 10.5 launch. But I'm hoping A LOT that it happens next Tuesday, or possibly the Tuesday after that.

I would say there are no mac pro updates coming on August 7th, but they are coming in ahead of schedule. I would say by christmas.

Take a looksie.

Engadget 45nm Coming early

That is of course assuming they will skip the rest of the Clovertown line. I don't know what they will do, to be honest I would prefer the Harpertowns... but we will see.

P.S: Welcome back macenforcer! I hope we can get along :)

Because I can wait a little longer if I need to. Assuming they upgrade the base RAM, hard drive, and graphics card (or even 2 of those 3), I will save money on what I had planned to upgrade to. And like others, I'm not too keen on paying 2006 prices on 2006 hardware in the second half of 2007. So since I can wait (though none too happily), I will.

i'm with ya on everything you said, i just hope they don't decide to update a week after this coming tuesday...

Ah, I must have missed what you were questioning me on. I've noticed that sometimes Apple will do some more quiet updates a week before and/or a week after a more major event. Hence the flurry of updates yesterday led me to think that they were going to do something major next week even before the article got posted on the invites. And they still might do some the week after, I just hope against it. And if they don't do an update on the Mac Pro at all in the next 1 (or 2) weeks, then I would think the next "obvious" upgrade time would be around the release of 10.5 as a "take advantage of the next big OS" campaign.

But all because I think that may be what will happen doesn't mean that I'm not desperately hoping for Mac Pro updates in 5 days!!

I can't buy knowing that a quad core 2.66 costs the same as a dual core 2.66. I feel cheated. Thats just me though. I have adjusted my work load to allow for me to wait until it happens. I think it will at minimum happen by the end of the year.

I doubt they would do it a week after, but who knows. For me it doesn't matter when they do it. Just that they do. And at some point something has to give. That we know for sure. Good luck everybody!

if i could wait until the end of the year, believe me - i would. right now, i'm still working on my 2.0MHZ 1.5GB ram Dell... and doing heavy video work.

it's killing me.

if i have to buy on the 7th, I can always sell, and re-buy when the upgrade finally happens.

If the proc update is not coming until Christmas I am sure Apple will update some other hardware options before then. Possibly a soft update on 7th or soon after!

It won't be end of the year. That would be to close to the 2008 stage show in January. I think it has to be November at the latest or it waits until the show. I would not mind if they updated now with the quads and then went SS and Harpertown in January - it would not anger me in the least as like others I just want value for my cash...

Apple has never released their Pro line of computers with the consumer line. When they released the MacPro last year, it was at WWDC IIRC. Also, they just introduced the quad-core option a few months ago so, if you are hoping for a MacPro update Tuesday you will be out of luck.

And you know this because why???

We are not talking about a new Mac Pro "release". We are talking about an UPDATE, namely the year and a half old video cards.

Wasn't it an eight-core option? Yes, I think it was. Keyword being "option."

Dell is selling a Quad core desktop for $619 with free shipping:eek:...for

2.4GHz Core 2 Quad-Core Processor
Windows Vista Home Basic
2GB DDR2 Memory
160GB Hard Drive
16x DVD-ROM
No Monitor
128MB nVidia GeForce 8300 GS Video Card

Saw it at dealcatcher.com - Apple has to do something - I wonder how the speed of this would compare to a Mac Pro quad - granted this dell is the desktop single chip quad, but it would be interesting to see.

Apple has to update the specs, go all octo because they are charging quite a premium for the same processing power and worse graphics card and less Ram.

I know it is not Apples to Apples, but that is the technology offered today and consumers have to look at the price/performance when purchasing.

Sounds like a perfect setup for a headless iMac - I'd buy one tomorrow!!

Or I'd buy a low-end Mac Pro if it were updated. But right now, the value isn't there for those of us who have to pinch pennies.
