Or go to Verizon. It'll save you a little bit of money in the end but they're even more strict with upgrades.

Yeah I'm thinking of selling my iPad and getting a windows desktop. I shouldn't have even gotten another one.

I love my MacBook to death though along with my phone.

The iPad is just uncomfortable to use.

the iPad is great in some scenarios. like at work its perfect because im usually standing up and can lay it on a counter to type and its way lighter then any macbook. in bed its great for browsing until you have to type something. they need to make the keys on the split keyboard bigger.

Perhaps it's the six lines I have. I refrained from mentioning it earlier, not bragging, just a complete mobile addict that buys many unlocked phones direct from a distributor in Hong Kong. GSM phones / smartphones of all brands that are often domestic market models, not destined for the USA.

Not too much different than my Mac Laptop addiction :D

How do you have 6 lines? I thought that the max was 5?

This guy on the phone was clueless and told me whenever I want I can just call and do an override for an early upgrade. Was kind of confused but I'm loopholing my way to a subsidized iPhone.

He said something about an override for an early upgrade. He made a note of it then he said it would be a $250 fee and sounded confused. I'll call them on the phone tomorrow.

Early upgrades are normally an extra $250. You're not getting anything special there.

yes I know that but he put the notation in the system and told me i could upgrade early with only a $36 fee because of what the man told me before.

The next people I call are going to be confused as heck.

I think if you put half as much effort into your job or a hobby as you are into getting this upgrade, you'll find you would make just as much money and/or have a lot more fun than trying to save a couple hundred on a phone.

Also, I wouldn't trust what any of these people tell you. Don't forget they're all sales reps, and there's a good chance they make some kind of commission. They say they'll "make a note", but there's zero-guarantee any of that will happen. In the end, if they can convince you to upgrade while paying the fee, they'll tell you whatever you want to hear.

Nope, they don't have to. It would be nice if they did.

I don't appreciate you coming in the thread that I created with a holier than thou attitude because I bet you wouldn't mind getting your upgrade bumped up either.
I can go either way but the fact is, I happen to know what it means when I signed a 2-year contract. Odd, right?
They may not mind if they got their upgrade bumped, but, then again, they didn't start a thread (in a public forum) asking how to get something for nothing.
Exactly. Me getting "bumped" is irrelevant to me this year. I'm also not looking for some loophole because I don't need one. ;)
The people on the phone are rude.
I'm sure they are, they tend to get rude when they're talking to unruly over-entitled customers.

You're right, someone is clueless in this story ...

I'm going to guess that you'll be paying the subsidized price for the phone plus $250 for the early upgrade. Kudos to you if you don't have to, but that is my guess. My attitude is far from holier than thou. It is more realistic and accepting of a contract. I understand AT&T has historically upped upgrade dates but there is nothing saying they need to and one should not come to expect an early out of their 2-year contract every year. AT&T tends to believe they don't need their customers more often than not.

Something for nothing?
Yeah, with the amount of money we pay on our bill, subsidies are paid off after a year.

If that is true, and it takes a year to pay of a subsidy through your bill payments, then their incentive for not giving you an upgrade is profit. Apparently the additional 8 months before they offer an 'early upgrade' is the amount of profit they want to achieve from an account. My guess is that their profit is more important to them than your demand for an early, early upgrade.

If you call and speak with the customer relations department it is at their discretion to give you an early upgrade. I called and asked for one because I could. I am tired of my iPhone and wanted the S3. Now, I have also been an AT&T customer for 10+ years. I do not get any discounts and all that jazz but I was polite and professional and they are sending me the new phone as we speak. Good luck.

Lay off a bit please.
It was a joke.

I was just teasing you. You know, a joke.

You got the S3, not the new iPhone. Just imagine the number of crybabies here if they find out even one person successfully gets the early, early iPhone upgrade at the fully discounted price so they're careful not to start it.

i was going to call and ask what the process was of closing my 4 line family account. that should get me an upgrade.

if that works i'll finally be at the point where all the lines upgrade at the same time
