They can give you a full upgrade when ever they want.....except for an iPhone. Ive had friends get full upgrades 3 or 4 months apart but they always tell them they cant do it for an iPhone.

I dont see the big deal, you can renew but pay extra 250. Get new iphone 5, sell your old iphone for whatever, most of the time you can get least the 250 if not more to offset the cost. You wouldnt be able to that with most other phones.

Its pretty silly to think that after 12 months you expect the same upgrade options of a person that has fulfilled his or hers 2 year plan.

Well maybe if I bitch enough they'll move it.

Nope. They made it very clear last year that it is out of their hands and has to do with the contract they signed with Apple. They gave me $200. When I initially refused that they said it was either that or they could transfer me to someone who can close my account.

You won't be getting your date bumped.

Well, this was not the case for me. I just don't want the new iPhone. They offered it but I want the S3. Any kind of exceptions made need to be honored through cooperate of whatever it is. So I have to have the phone sent to me instead of going into the store to pick it up.

I was just teasing you. You know, a joke.

You got the S3, not the new iPhone. Just imagine the number of crybabies here if they find out even one person successfully gets the early, early iPhone upgrade at the fully discounted price so they're careful not to start it.

They offered me eligibility for the new iPhone at a full discount rate. I am just ready for a change. So I ordered the S3. If I don't like it I can always return it and get the new iPhone I guess. We shall see.

I got my date bumped. Just shows, the experience is hardly universal.

What date did you last upgrade?

Well maybe if I bitch enough they'll move it.

i was going to call and ask what the process was of closing my 4 line family account. that should get me an upgrade.

if that works i'll finally be at the point where all the lines upgrade at the same time

These things come up frequently. The reality is that subsidized phones are dumb. I'd rather see unsubsidized phones and cheaper plans, as they would likely work out to be less over the longer term. The subsidy model basically hinges on you taking out a high interest loan with the carrier every two years. The only ones who really benefit from this are the companies who sell many expensive phones.

What date did you last upgrade?

About a month or two after 4s was released. Before I called my upgrade date was 5/2013. Also, I had the 4 before that on upgrade. So I was eligible after a year with the 4 to the 4s. Sometimes I think account history comes into play with these things. 10+ years does not hurt.

I think you called because you wanted the S3 so they bumped the date for that. Your experience isn't unique as several posters have done that. The fact remains that you didn't get bumped for the new iPhone.

Good luck with that..
If I was the rep, I'd say no because you have no merit to bitch about being in a current contract and want to sign another because a new phone is coming out. Buy the phone full retail and keep it moving, nothing more than a dick move to yell at someone because they are following policy that blocks you from doing this.

How in the world are you telling me the "the fact remains" and you have no clue how the conversation went? Was I speaking with you on the phone? The FACT was they changed my date to be eligible immediately and then I was asked what phone I would like. I was then told if I did not like the phone I was ordering I could send it back and choose another, including an iPhone. You can't get bumped for a phone that is not released. Obviously, I'm not getting bumped for a phone I already have. I did not get bumped for any specific phone. I got bumped because I asked and they accepted. Then I choose which phone I desired. The S3 was not mentioned till they asked me what phone I desired. The fact is I was not a dick or rude, I explained I wanted to get a new phone and they looked at my account and approved it immediately. These decisions are made individually and there is no loophole. If you are calling and asking for your upgrade date to be changed for a phone that has yet to be even announced what do you think they are going to say...

Unfortunately, I don't believe you're telling us the whole story. Why did you call them up in the first place, having upgraded to the iPhone 4S about a month or two after its debut and facing the next full upgrade date of 5/2013? We've had several incidents in which members wanted the S3 and they bumped the date for that. So again, anything but the iPhone and that sounds exactly like what happened here.

It would've been a different story had you called to request bumping the full eligibility date specifically for the new iPhone and that didn't happen here.

Umm, how are you going to ask them for full eligibility for a phone that has yet to be announced? Does not work like that. What I said was I wanted a new phone. Obviously, it would not be an iPhone as I already have one. Again, these decisions are made individually. The rep instructed me I have 14 days from the time I activate the new phone to return it and get another. Including the iPhone, which I am personally tired of but that is just me. Logic denotes that you can't ask to be bumped for a phone that technically does not exist yet...

So you wanted a new phone now and they were happy to bump up your eligibility date knowing that you won't get the new iPhone. Makes sense and really no different from members who called to get their date bumped for the S3.

The fact remains you did not get your iPhone eligibility date bumped specifically for the new iPhone.

You seem to be missing a very simple point. They bumped my eligibility. I can return the S3 without even opening the box or with 14 days and I am still eligible for WHATEVER phone I want. Anyway, believe whatever you want but you are totally missing the point. There is no Android or Apple eligibility. There is just eligibility. This is getting ridiculous.

I'm not missing any point here. It is standard practice to be able to return any phone within so many days, including the iPhone. Maybe a prospective loophole is to call them up to request your eligibility date bumped for the S3, order that, and return it for the new iPhone.

But so far, nobody has been able to get the iPhone eligibility date bumped specifically for the new iPhone.

This is because you are trying to separate the iPhone from any other phone. They do not look at it this way. I could of ordered an iPhone 4s if I wanted. I actually joked about this with the rep and we both had a good laugh. But then she said I could order it if I wanted to but the price was not discounted yet because the new iPhone has not be announced. Again, the new iPhone has not been released. It does not exist yet. This means you can't ask or it because it does not exist. There is no such thing as iPhone eligibility. There is just eligibility. The rep asked me what phone I desired after they changed my eligibility. Obviously, this makes it non phone specific. Also, it was customer relations who made my this decision. Not the normal rep.

Actually the do look at it that way.
Ask any Verizon and AT&T customer that asked for an early upgrade because their phone broke, they lost it or any other reason.
They would bend the rules and let them get one but they told them any phone but the iphone.
Android phones, windows mobile phone not a problem. Ask for an iphone and forget about it.

Well, who knows what exactly they are doing. I am just letting you know what they told me. I could of ordered an 4s if I wanted even though I already had one. Who knows what they are doing. I am just trying to let you know my experience. Good luck with your own...

I believe you, there's always some nicer reps who will let you get away with things and bend the rules. Other times you can call 36 times and you cant get one that will even consider helping you out when asking for anything extra.
Even Verizon customers will tell you that the reps will help you out when asking for a full subsidy on any other phone but the iphone. Their costs are way lower on those other devices compared to the amount they pay to apple and obviously they have more room to play and help out longtime customers or those that are in good standing that's all.
Not that hard to believe.
Its not always just black and white that's what I was getting at. Carriers do not consider all subsidies equal and the same.
They do have other phones that they try to push more or make more money on, better bulk deals, promotions. They will even tell their staff to push androids more and they have individual store and local district competitions on whichever associate sells the most windows mobile phones this month wins so and so prize for example.
My buddy that works at a local AT&T store got a 37" flat screen last month from a similar incentive they had at his store between employees.

Personally, I did find it revealing that customer relations decisions would not be honored at a store. Kind of weird that the store would not honor cooperates decisions.
