I'm pretty sure that an iTunes update is required to launch a new store. It happened with iTunes 4.7 whose release notes say compatability for Euro zone stores.

I remember that the new iTunes was available for download some time in the late afternoon/night so I'm predicting that it will be launched between 6 and 9pm (EST) if it is to be launched today.

The entrance loop has been going on for a week now, I sure hope they do launch iTMS Canada today so that the rest of the world can at least browse the other stores.
Nahhh... They knew a month ago that iTMS Canada launch was imininent, so I'm pretty sure they've included the subtle changes required in iTunes 4.7...

I have a feeling the delays are due to the ongoing negociations with Sony/BMG. I think Steve will try to negociate until the very last minute and should that fail, will open the store without any Sony/BMG stuff and add that later.

I don't expect any announcement, except perhaps for a press release. They'll just throw the swith on and run off home with the hope that no angry Canadian will attack them before they realize the store did indeed open.

At this point though, I have a hunch they'll delay until next week or perhaps even a bit later than that. I think Sony/BMG is a big piece of the puzzle to be missing and maybe they want to wait for them before opening the store.

Either way, I doubt the delay is caused by Apple. Technologically, they're ready... all that'd needed now is the OK from the lawyers.

Basically, we're screwed :D

Check our thread over at ehMac! One user, who reportedly works for a major news outlet in Canada assures us the launch is still on for today

That would explain Bush's visit to Ottawa. He's not looking for WoMD, he just wants some legal Canadian "pharmaceuticals".

(He'd probably have better luck out west, though.)

Just FYI.

Here in Australia I'm getting the "iTunes is not available in your country yet" message - BUT - it's a different message to normal, the fonts have changed and the little arrow is there - AND - when I click the "click here to browse anyway" bit, it goes nowhere, not even a list of countries...

Wierd - but I'm assuming it's because they'll be updating stuff for iTMS Canada.

Enjoy it dear Canadian friends, we poor Aussie get the worse raw end of every apple stick here... grumble...

Well how many hours to go overthere?
See it is Already 1st Dec here

The U.S. store (and possibly others) has not been updated today at all which is odd. The launch of a Canadian store could have something to do with it. Usually the U.S. store is updated by the time I'm up in the morning and it's already 10 hours past that... the store has been delayed in being updated on previous country changes and format changes so at least "something" is bound to happen... I think.

Hi,

Irregardless of whether the artists see that money, Canadians are all paying a tax/fee on recordable media as a compensation for recording music for personal use. If the artists are not seeing the money that "we" paid then the artists need to use legal means to get the money from the CCPC.

s.

Agreed. I actully think all this CCPC tax is very stupid idea and it should be banned. I wonder if it would survive any legal challenge.
I am paying tax to CCPC even if I am using CD-R for data backup!

Just another tax grab.

Well, my predicition is right! 4:20 came and they legalized pot and opened the itunes music store. I am now smoking a huge joint, taking care of my grow room and downloading music. I am also smoking a big fat itunes joint ;) ;)

tabernaque....le CCPC si mange la merde (that was harder to write than it should have been)

I really wish Apple would say stuff like "We'll launch iTMS Canada in 2009" and then surprise us with a november 30 launch date. This is pure evil.

Au point ou on est rendu... c'est plus que long, c'est inhumain :)

LONG à mort

Au moins ça me permet de voir qu'y'en a quelques uns d'entre nous qui parlent français! YÉ !

Mais, anyway, les seuls mots que j'ai en tête sont COME ON !!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

What work does it take to put ITMS online? just take the US' Interface change the money to canaidan and your done.

And add Canadian content and add a french option for everything. It's not as simple as you'd think.

Then again, they already got everything translated for iTMS France, so that only leaves the Canadian money and content. And I'd hope they started adding Canadian content at least a few weeks ago.

Steve did say "coming in november for Canada", and I'm quite sure he meant this year... Why announce something for more than one year later? They would already have announced the eMac G5 by now if that was the case. And even the LP G5/DC G4 PowerBooks and the 3GHz PowerMacs.

Only a few hours to go... Other services are already available (puretracks.com, for example) so all those delays are really annoying.
