It will be interesting to see what Teddy-boy decides about the iPhone plans. I'm crossing my fingers for reasonable rates for you guys....

Here's a little present for you- you can use Garageband to turn it into your first iPhone ringtone: Hockey Night in Canada Theme Music
While I'm not going crazy waiting (but thanks for rubbing it in BTW ;) ), the lack of info on plans is a little irritating. I hope Rogers provides the plan information prior to July 11th, at any rate I'm going to hang back from the initial crowd and have a good look at those plans before I pick one up!

I'm worried that the data plans are going to remain pretty high. If that's the case I'll just get the lowest data plan and turn off the 3G function. At least here in Toronto there's plenty of WiFi signals to use, so I shouldn't miss it.

Oh and thanks for the theme... Canada's 2nd national anthem! :)

Talked to two people from Rogers today, one said yes the phone can be purchased outright for those not eligible for an upgrade and the other had no idea. Both did say they won't have pricing information or other details until July 11th. Sounds a bit strange to me, I'm sure it's not true but if it is that's a bit sneaky on Rogers part.

Don't talk to people from Rogers. They have less knowledge of what's going on than anyone on here does. Only the big wigs at head office know.

reading other posts that are to do with at&t customers, one said that when you purchase the iphone on a contract, it does nothing to your already existing one, it starts a brand new 2 yr contract on the day of purchase, and you can take it home to activate it or in store.

so i kind hope its like that for rogers, and really not wanting any rogers (SH*t) on the phone, just keep it sealed in the apple box and ill activate it at home :)

I doubt the Rogers reps themselves know the full story. As everyone is getting a different response, it's likely that they are getting as many rumors as the rest of us are, and just because they have a shirt that says "Rogers" on it, it somehow makes them more official.

It is extremely likely that Rogers itself is hamstrung by some agreement with Apple restricting them to releasing details only when Apple wants. That being said, why Rogers hasn't just announced officially that "Full plan and contract details will be available at such and such date" is really annoying, and is just fueling this rampant speculation.

However if all of this contract garbage and preferential treatment for new customers and whatever else turns out to be true, I think Rogers will lose more than a few customers just because of all the hassle. I love Apple stuff, but I am also really happy with the blackberries I have had, and this experience may just push back in the direction of a GPS equipped curve or a new Bold.

It's really unfortunate Canada doesn't have even one decent wireless carrier.

Mine isn't. I've owned 3 phones with Rogers and they've never been branded. Guess it depends on the model.

However there is no way in hell Apple would allow their devices to be branded by a third party. I'd be willing to put money on it.

I would seriously like to see pics of these phones... When I worked for rogers a few years ago... EVERY phone we got in was branded... granted I left the biz, and haven't followed it much.... I would be very surprised to see them move away from this

Rogers "REPS"

It seems that most of you are not aware that Rogers runs only a handful of its own stores.

98% of them are operated by a third party, and as such those employees have even LESS knowledge than us.

Phone your store... talk to the staff... I promise you they have not got the information running down the pipeline yet... and they are working off of the same rumors we are.... Mind you this is a rumor site.

What you guys have to remember about Telus/Bell unlimited data plans is that they are not 3G. The common complaint in the states about the price jumping from $20 to $30 w/out text is that the $30 is standard for 3G data plans.

So, I'd expect for any 3G data plans available on Rogers, unlimited or nearly unlimited (whatever that might be) will be more expensive than those Telus and Bell offer. And if people complain, Rogers can tell them to shove it. If you want the iPhone, you pay. And people will, they'll probably line up to do so.

Well yes... they are not "3G" ... but they are the CDMA version of 3G... So it is still like comparing apples to apples.

My Rogers Razr i bought 3 years ago isn't Rogers branded, and I'd be MUCH more suprised to see Apple move away from their anti-branding ways than Rogers being able to talk Apple into letting put their ugly logo on the phone. Apple pays MILLIONS MORE for their Intel chips because they're not a part of Intel's sticker program. They're VERY dedicated to keeping their designs branding free.

I'm fairly certain both my old Motorol V551 (purchased 3 years ago this August) and my girlfriend's current SLVR (purchased 2 years ago in May) were not branded. SLVR has a Rogers startup screen, my V551 did not (I think). Although my current Blackberry (2 years ago) is both branded with the Rogers logo and has a Rogers startup screen.

my SLVR also does not have a rogers logo on it anywhere. It does show up when I turn on the phone.

This may be a stupid question, but has anyone else noticed that the Rogers 'Something big is coming' image isn't actually a silhouette of an iPhone. I assume it was just something someone whipped up before they had final images of the 3G, or could it actually be referring to something else? Or I could possibly just be crazy.

As is my SLVR (it shows up for about 3 seconds after the Moto logo), I suspect this is most likely all the Rogers branding we'll see on the phone.

I wasn't sure if that was a new iPhone or not, but if it isn't it's probably because Rogers wasn't given any advanced images from Apple.

I hope we don't even see that. However, it wouldn't be an awful thing if they did add a power-on rogers logo as I rarely turn my cellphone off.

Never seen a rogers branded phone, most of my friends have telus or bell or fido, but those who don't, do not have any branding what so ever.

Only the software has rogers on it which the iphone will not have.

Canadian telcos and animals

Did you ever wonder why all the telcos here in Canada except Rogers use animals in their ads?

Its the thinking, let them get disracted by those "cute" animals so they won't realize how they are being shafted.

I remember when we were with Rogers a long time ago, the phone was branded. At least the iPhone won't be and won't have the stupid crap at the beginning that every provider has.

Re: Rate plans... Don't forget deregulation is coming to the Canadian mobile phone market, which will bring in competing companies (who knows... O2? Verizon?) and, most importantly LOWER PRICES.

Rogers has a HUGE opportunity here to come in with the lower prices (that they'll be forced in to later anyway) and lock a HUGE number of people in for 3 years.

Let's hope they don't blow it. :D
