So, I'm guessing my initial thoughts are correct? The only way to get the iPhone from either Rogers or Fido is to sign a 3 year contract? Meaning those of us who are not yet eligible for an upgrade either have to wait or pay the termination fee? Talking to Rogers the other day I was told regardless of your contract switching to Fido was free, I wonder if switching to Fido would allow me to sign a new contract?

What do you mean switching to Fido is free?

I was talking to a supervisor about canceling my contract, switching to another carrier because of the this mess. Anyway, he said that since they're the same company there is no penalty for switching over to Fido regardless of the contract you are on. At that time it didn't even occur for me to ask if switching would allow me to sign a new contract (thus getting the iPhone) with Fido. I suppose its worth looking into but I'm not even going to attempt talking to a Rogers rep until they figure out what the hell is going on with the iPhone. If this whole thing about new customers getting the advantage is true thats beyond lame. I'm first on the waiting list at one of the Rogers stores near me and they didn't say anything about new customers getting priority. I've been in again since then trying to figure things out and that hasn't changed. Hopefully it turns out to be a Rogers rep having no clue as to what they're talking about.

so i talked to a worker in the rogers outlet and he was pretty much telling me how rogers sucks and taht the iphone wont do well, but he said the plans will be cheaper then the blackberries.

To SkottDMD: (I was too lazy to hit the 'reply to' from the previous page) I think that regardless of if you are due for an upgrade or not, if you're willing to sign for 3 more years (as of your sign-date, not in addition to your remaining years) Rogers will probably let you renew your contract. Again, we won't know until the date gets here but I think that Rogers has no problem re-locking you in for another 3 years.

That's what I was thinking...Rogers on the other hand says they can't/won't let me sign another contract. At the Rogers store they said they can try for an early upgrade when the time comes but it's "rare". I've had them do it before, for a year they were doing a promotion or something which let me upgrade every 6 months but they stopped doing that right around the time I got a RAZR. I can't imagine them not making certain exceptions for what is sure to be their biggest product to date but like I said, I wouldn't be surprised.

You will be able to get an iphone and just start a new contract. 3 years from the day you get it.

So wait, let's say you buy a 5mb data plan from rogers. All it takes is to download one e-mail with a picture attachment and you're done for the month? lol (this post is not a joke)
no you can download more, but you will pay out of your ass and mouth for it.
but like i said there will be a "new" data plan(s) for the iPhone.

but then what good is ANY data at all if you're only going to get that little of it?! I'm guessing 5 GB /m onth would be acceptable for normal usage?

Has anybody seen this plan before? I got a flyer in the mail today. It's only for the BB Curve and Samsung Jack, but is much more reasonable than the average Rogers plan.

$70/month
450 weekday minutes
4MB data
Unlimited incoming minutes
Unlimited evenings (9 PM) and weekends
100 Canadian long distance.

Makes me think there is a small chance the iphone plans will be somewhat reasonable.

They could switch out the LD minutes for unlimited data and I think it pretty much matches the AT&T plans.

ya i think 5g would do it. i mean safari would use more cus its a full browser.

4mb is reasonable for a BB with just email. Considering not long ago the basic BB plans were 0.5mb, it makes me think that an iphone plan with unlimited could also be at a reasonable $70-80 range and not $100.

Obviously Rogers will have to make iphone plans an exception to their regular pricing.

That is no where near reasonable, and will never happen. First, that's worse than some BB plans right now and Windows Mobile plans are a ton cheaper than that.

59.99$/month.

200 SMS (9.99$)
120 min talk (30$)
Unlimited data (20$).

That's the fair price. And that's what I'm hoping for. Either Fido or Rogers. Preferably Fido, because they charge you by the second, not by the minute.

Mazel Tov, Canadians! I've been pulling for you guys to finally get the iPhone.

If I was still living in Toronto, I would be going crazy right now waiting for July to arrive. I moved to Cali in February and I've had my iPhone since, and I still love it- it still seems brand new to me.

Enjoy!

It will be interesting to see what Teddy-boy decides about the iPhone plans. I'm crossing my fingers for reasonable rates for you guys....

Here's a little present for you- you can use Garageband to turn it into your first iPhone ringtone: Hockey Night in Canada Theme Music

ya 4mb is great for text only emails as long as you only check it like 5 times a day and dont get alot of emails haha.

i think 120min would be like 12$ cus on telus, which blows, you get 200 min for 20$

id love to see that but i think it will be more along the line of
200sms
150min
unlim data Caped at 5g

for 79.99

hopfually we should get plan pricing by the end of june :)

Here's what I would be happy with:

100 SMS
100 daytime minutes
Unlimited Data
49.99 +taxes

Don't worry everyone. I'm sure they thought long and hard about this. Remember - Apple wants to make the thing more affordable - so it's not very affordable at 100/month is it?

i'd just like to say it's really lame that the canadian iPhone is $199 CAD which requires a 3-year subscription to rogers, while the US iphone is $199 USD which requires a 2-year subscription with AT&T

Bet you never thought you wished you were with Rogers? I said jokingly to my friend today, "Thank god my contract with Rogers is up so if they need me to sign a new one in order to get the phone I can"... then I slapped myself for like 5 minutes straight.

ps - if your name a reference to Dallas Green's song?

I still have like a year and a half on my contract with rogers so i called them up and apparently I just have to resign for a 3 year to replace my current one cause im at my hardware upgrade.

Is 1GB of Data a lot?

I'd like for my plan to have:

Unlimited Evenings & Weekends
Unlimited Text
200 Weekday Minutes
__ Ammount Of Data

For $50?

amen to that, I almost don't even care about data, just the phone, i have wifi at home so i have unlimited data in some way anyway. how much browsing can a person do away from home anyway? I honestly don't know, is 1 GB alot for a month or a little?

I'm sure this is not a huge possibility but could you imagine buying your iphone on July 11th opening the box up taking the iphone out and having a ugly @ss ROGERS logo on the back or even worse, powering it up and getting that annoying Rogers theme...

again, I'm sure Apple has ensured that the iphone stays "Apple" branded... but this would be a huge turnoff for me.

only telus fido and bell do that, i have NEVER seen a rogers phone *branded*

Maybe I'm just skeptical but I think we're all crazy if we're thinking that we'll get any plan that has unlimited data for under 80$. I mean, we're all just throwing out random plans here and tossing a dollar value on it but Rogers is going to charge the max amount they can while still being able to get people to bite. I hope you guys are right - or even close to being right - but I was thinking more like 200 txt, 200 anytime minutes, unlimited data for 79$ or 99$. We'll see... I hope they announce the rates sometime next week so we don't have to wait much longer.

Not looking close enough I guess.
I've got a Sony Ericsson W300i with Rogers.

On the front of the phone, just below the outer screen, is a Rogers logo on the nameplate. When I boot up, after the Sony Ericsson logo, there is about 5 seconds of the Rogers logo before the phone becomes functional. When I shut down, I get about 5 more seconds of the Rogers logo.

what are you talking about? most rogers phones are branded.....

Mine isn't. I've owned 3 phones with Rogers and they've never been branded. Guess it depends on the model.

However there is no way in hell Apple would allow their devices to be branded by a third party. I'd be willing to put money on it.
