So, I already have an iPhone, so Rogers data plans would have to be very compelling in order for me to purchase the 3G iphone. This is particularly important as the iphone is becoming even more webified with GPS, Locate me Services, mobileme.com etc.

Rogers is probably going to try and stick their old pricing models on this phone and its not going to work. They would be smart to offer unlimited data and make their money in other ways. For example, they could do a deal with a vendor for iPhone apps where the customer would pay a certain amount per application. They could do deals for location based advertising, so if you are searching for shoes, sites that come up have paid a small piece to Rogers.

Sadly, I don't think this will happen, as the suits dont get paid to innovate, especially if they dont have to.

I'm already with Rogers. Will I be able to go to the Rogers store when it's released and buy it for $299 and just pay the activation fee in-store? Or is it $299 with a new contract?

you will extend your contract so it lasts 2 years

and pay like 20-30 for data

Considering the AT&T plan is $30 data and $5 for 200 texts, I think this will be closer to 40-50-60 data, and it very likely won't even be unlimited data.

The data charge will be the deal breaker for me, more than $40 and Rogers has lost me as an iPhone customer.

Hi All,

They sell the units to the carrier and get a ton of money from the carrier because they had to pay to make it exclusive still.

$199 for 8gb and $299 for 16gb

How does anyone know how much carriers buy the phone for?

If the plan was $80/month for:

- 200 Anytime minutes
- Unlimited Evenings and Weekends
- 50 SMS
- 2 GB of internet

Would that be worth it?

I just want to gauge what people think is a fair price. I think the above is what we're probably going to get, and no better than that. It sounds like a lot to me, but I guess if I don't have the money, I shouldn't buy it.

Wow, today has been just one bad news after another.

Do I really wanna sign a 3 year (3!!) to pay something stupid like 70$ a month just to have the privilege of giving rogers more money?

The whole $199 thing is a scam. The money is just being distributed differently. In the end its us who are being screwed..

P.S. rogers why does ur site say 'Something big is coming July 11th? Everyone knows an iPhone is coming, at east advertise it!!! Idiots...

$30/gb is more reasonable than what I think rogers will offer. I would expect closer to $40-50.

Does anyone know Rogers contracts locks you in to paying the contract rate for 3 years, or just having a contract with Rogers for 3 years. I would have to imagine that data rates will be cheaper a few years from now. I don't mind signing a rogers contract for 3 years, but i don't want to be ripped off on data charges for 3 years.

^^Yeah, $30 for 1 GB isn't so bad. It's not good, but it's not bad.

You know, you don't HAVE TO buy it if you think it's too expensive. Nobody is being screwed.

Have you also been outraged at Ferrari lately? Nice products. I'd like one, but they're too expensive. Ferrari just lost a customer!

So when I go to Rogers(existing customer) and buy the iPhone will it a bea 2 year contract or 3 year?

1Gb only? "not so bad"?? Are you kidding me? This is terrible, not acceptable. Apple hopefully will make sure they do like AT&T and charge around 30$ for unlimited.

With all this charges and unsatisfying data rates, I might just use Wifi or until they're cheaper...Another thing is, will Rogers lock out some features in the iphone?

If data plans are any more than $30 Rogers can kiss my money goodbye.

Canada's rates are crap, someone needs to come through and just destroy them.

I also hate this 'add 2 years onto your contract' thing. The plans are actually for 3 years, so you should be adding 3 years, no? Still, adding 3 years on is ridiculous. I want a new headset, an iPhone, not anything else. You can buy new headsets, why can't you just buy an iPhone? If I bought an iPhone each year Apple came out with a new one, after 5 years my contract would be 12 years long. That's crap.

You only have a contract with Rogers for however long your term is. I signed up with them 3 years ago and in that time have switched my contract options and billing stuff around more times than anyone I know. They've never said anything to me.

Is 1GB of Data a lot?

I'd like for my plan to have:

Unlimited Evenings & Weekends
Unlimited Text
200 Weekday Minutes
__ Ammount Of Data

For $50?

Won't happen. You start with like a $35 dollar plan and then add the $7 for evenings and weekends and if you wanna start it at 6pm theres another charge.

ugh.

i don't want to spend lots on a plan since i'm still in highschool. and it's only coming out of my pocket.

I'm in the same boat. If the iPhone doesn't make you get a data plan and comes with a 2 year contract I can do it. Otherwise, I won't because I don't want to have a cell on my parents family plan in university and $299 plus payments that could get me a car would be stupid.

SAME.
plus wi-fi is everywhere i am mostly, so it's not that big a problem.
all i need is unlimted text, unlimted weekends/evenings, 200 weekday minutes and i'll be A-OK :D
