@BUXjr these are the items that I purchased.

The 5V 60 second delay relay. I paid the extra the $2.75 for shipping and I got it in about 10 days:

The enclosure link. I had to purchase it with another delay relay however, it's a 12V relay so it won't work, the way we are trying to use it. I messaged the seller and he said I was unable to purchase just the enclosure.

The usb extension link through Amazon. I bought the 1.5ft one because I have a 2017 Tahoe and I have this behind the radio in the storage department plugged into the USB. If you are putting it in the center console and hiding it like @2018 Denali, you would need a longer extension:

Attached below are the photos.

This is very neat implementation.

Outstanding! Thanks SO much JLHunt! I'll probably try my hand at this harness too! So, correct me if I am wrong, but this solution simply detects the 5v on the USB line, and upon detection, starts a delay count down, then connects the power through, after the delay timer ends, correct? This doesn't require an external "trigger" power source, right? It's completely "in-line"...?

@BUXjr that is correct! That's why I had to increase the amount of time for the delay countdown because in my Tahoe, the USB gets power as soon as I open the door.

Holy contraption Batman! Nice work. Man, the steps we take to make these devices work less poorly.

@LarryJoe33 I know right. Now, if they could only fix the 5-minute distortion issue for Chevy/GMC this thing would be flawless.
I communicated with April at CPlay2Air today, sent her a link to a video I shot over the holiday weekend, demonstrating the 5-minute audio glitch. I'm sure y'all are quite familiar with it, but in case anyone wants to actually hear/see it, here is that link:

Right?!?! Now if we could just get a copy of the firmware source code...we'd be all set! :)

I don't have the need for the power delay, but I admire your efforts. I like problem solving with gadgets and adapters. Don't even ask about my smart home obsession and getting things like the garage door and fireplace to be "smart" when they are old and not smart.

Yeah, this product has SO much potential, I so wish they had some competition from a coding perspective. I think they lost their mojo on development in the last 6 months.

Honestly, I think every car could benefit from a controllable power delay. They could easily build this in and solve a lot of connection issues. Mine get confused sometimes and I have to pull the plug, rarely, but it is always after a quick stop and start, so I think it's car power related.

@BUXjr yea it's so bad. It's caused my wife to not want to use it, because she hates that she has to pause the music for a few seconds to fix it, to only have it come back a few minutes later. How are you communicating with them? I found the best way was through their Facebook page via Facebook Messenger. I usually got a response within 12 to 18 hours depending on the time of day.

I was able to get that fixed with the help of 2018 Denali by upgrading from January to March, I would't hold my breath though if I were you. These developers/sellers have done nothing to help anyone or solve any issue. Your best hope is a way of downgrading the firmware whenever that becomes possible, or perhaps ditch the dongle and get another one with an earlier firmware.

@jlhunter2008 I have been communicating with them via email: support@carplay2air.reamaze.com. I do believe we are getting correspondence from China, so I usually get responses at night or very early morning (I'm in SC, USA).

@Fluke1 I hear ya mate -- sadly, I got painted into a corner when April at CPlay2Air asked me to update my adapter (via USB) to 2020.06.17.0549 (which she supplied directly to me, via Google Drive), which infuriatingly cannot be downgraded. Doh! April keeps telling me that they are working on, and testing a "fix" for this, but "please allow us 2-3 weeks to roll it out, on the air". So fingers crossed. 🤞

Again, I'll just echo what others have said; we really need an Apple MFi solution. As mentioned, if they truly do abandon the lightning port, they'll either have to solve this themselves or partner with someone who can. They simply cannot abandon all of the millions of wired CarPlay head units out there. They don't need to add any tangible excuses for iPhone users NOT to upgrade. Feel me?

So, for now, we must continue to muddle through with our kludgy hacks.

I completely agree. They should allow us to be able to set/select a boot delay, right from the from the interface or via the 192.168.50.2 page. That would solve a lot of problems. Can't be too hard to do. They just need to be convinced that they SHOULD! Let's all start firing off emails!!!

Hmmm. At one point 6/17 was 6/17. i Save them all just in case. You have to keep them in dated folders as all the file names are the same. If i test one and file is really a different date i change it. As happed with 3/4 versus 3/7.

6-17 works well for me. I have always gotten some black screens randomly. I think the more frequent in 6/17 but perhaps not more so then 3/4.

Looks like another bogus update on the direct link for 07/07. Only 717kb in size.

Now thats definitely weird micro update.

** Just to reiterate would Joe and I were chatting about earlier. Carlinkit and friends (copilot, carplay private label of the same) should be up front that this solution is only a hack not an approved documented API based solution that should just work. Its a hack that I am happy exists. We all hope Apple creates their own. Note as well the biggest issue for consistency in the way carlinkit firmware works seems to be defeated by wildly different implementations of CarPlay built into cars AV systems. That is we get very different results with the same Carlinkit firmware.

Will all keep working together for our benefit and hopefully people like us keep feeding them logs.

** Lastly as this thread is long just to say i again. Only buy from somewhere like Amazon or Ebay that I am aware of that offers to allow returns no questions asked. Do not keep the device past 30 days if it does not work for you after an over the air or manual update. Know that a future release of IOS or cars AV system could break the device.

yesterday I tried to activate my Carlinkit dongle. But the screen asked for activation. I uploaded the log and sent an email to sales@carlinkit.com. They sent me username/password but this didn‘t work (wrong username or password). I asked again, but they told me, that the account data are correct and I should try it again. I tried it 10 times, no chance. Has anyone another idea?

I got my updated 6.17 Carlinkit USB-C adapter to connect to my Mazda Connect 70.00.367A system, but still experienced the Mazda Connect reboots. I *think* they are more frequent when using Waze than when using Apple Maps, but I am not bothering to really test it as the reboots happen regardless, and I still have connection issues while starting the car. I will test again when an official OTA update (or otherwise) is offered.

Did you try to manually usb downgrade the firmware that caused this? Mine had done that also. I did a manual update to 6-19-20 that fixed for my Carlinkit usb-c

@demichve unfortunately this happened to me and after them issuing me multiple usernames and passwords and none of them working, Carlinkit and I decided that it had been bricked. I would suggest trying what @2018 Denali suggests, but for me when I tried to manually downgrade the firmware, it wouldn't downgrade even if I left it plugged in over night.

For me on my Carlinkit USB-c came with Firmware 3-18-20. I tried to downgrade it to 3–6-20 but the dongle would not activate. Carlinkit provide a few user names and passwords but they didn’t work. They offer me a replacement dongle if I sent it back to them. I just keeped the dongle as is. Then update firmware 6-19-20 was posted and I did the manual usb update and magically the dongle activated its self this time.
