CarPlay CarPlay adapter to convert to wireless CarPlay?

@demichve unfortunately this happened to me and after them issuing me multiple usernames and passwords and none of them working, Carlinkit and I decided that it had been bricked.
For me on my Carlinkit USB-c came with Firmware 3-18-20. I tried to downgrade it to 3–6-20 but the dongle would not activate. Carlinkit provide a few user names and passwords but they didn’t work. They offer me a replacement dongle if I sent it back to them. I just keeped the dongle as is. Then update firmware 6-19-20 was posted and I did the manual usb update and magically the dongle activated its self this time.
@2018 Denali that's good to hear. @demichve I would try updating the firmware to 6-19-20 and see if that works. I believe someone posted that update file a few posts back.

Just wanted to add another successful install of Carlinkit in a 2017 Honda CR-V, if anyone with a similar model is on the fence.

I also went with the custom wireless charging mat from Amazon and it's a nice pairing when going with wireless Carplay.

Experience so far is very positive - if you're patient and can wait a few moments for everything to get running after starting the car - I've essentially faced zero issues in around a month of use (still on iOS 13).

Any idea if the 6-19-20 firmware have the 5-6 minutes problem in GM vehicles?
According to Denali, sadly it does still have the vile and wretched, "Five Minute Audio Glitch". I have not flashed it personally, but I've read that 2020.06.19 does NOT remedy that malady, introduced in 2020.06.17.0549. Sorry.

yes it still has the 5-6 minute sound issue..

Anyone with a GM car/truck stay on 3-6-20 as it’s the best for now.

I recommend to try manual update to 6-19-20 as it might bring @demichve dongle back to life and activated.

Thanks guys. I'm really starting to hate this device. I went from 01.22.20 to 03.06.20 and the thing worked well at the beginning. Now I can't get it to do anything. I tried re-flashing with 03.06.20 several times to no avail. It goes through the firmware update with all the correct light sequences but when I plug it into the truck nothing happens. Maybe it got bricked or who knows what. I have been looking high and low for alternatives and there's nothing but this stupid voodoo operated dongle.

This is the email I received today for the short message I sent few days ago explaining my 5-6 minutes sound degradation.

3-6-20 is the best for GM. I had read on here that the settings within the truck itself can be reset has helped others.

I have 2 dongles one on 3-6-20 and one on 6-19-20 that I can’t downgrade. by far the one with 3-6-20 works best on my GM truck.

Sounds like your positive experience is similar to mine. Which model are you using and what firmware are you running? Just curious, don’t change a thing though in terms of firmware. I have the USB-C model running 1.22 and it’s almost perfect.

If you upgrade to iOS 14 beta 2 you might find almost no delay changing tracks, faster boot times and better sound quality.

I ordered mine from Carplay2air last week before seeing this post. If i saw this post, I might have chosen the new USB-C version from carlinkit. Is the Usb-C version better than cplay2air?

Also, I have paid the DHL express shipping, but almost 1 week has passed, i have not received any tracking number... anyone met with the same issue?

I'll give you my two cents, there have been differences noted in this thread with regard to improved performance with the USB-C version although some people have cracked it open and it is debatable whether the hardware is any different. In short, no one knows the exact answer, BUT, if in the market and buying, definitely opt for the USB-C version. Another indicator that it is different is in the way the company has stated that the USB-C version is not USB stick manually up-gradable and many have found that out and a few were successful. The older version you bought is more likely USB stick up-gradable, SO, by my account, there is a difference.

I have owned and used EVERY version including the re branded CarPlay2Air. I find the USB-C version to be superior. In terms of CarPlay2Air as a company, they are garbage. They offer very little support, they make it very uninviting to return it (to friggin China at your cost plus a restocking fee if you don't push back) and their shipping takes FOREVER regadless of the so called expedited shipping. I lost patience after almost two months of stalled tracking and "COVID" excuses and disputed with PayPal. I don't think I ever saw Paypal determine a resolution so quickly. They refunded my money in an hour. This tells me they have had many disputes with CP2A. I then bought the same older style Carlinkit product via Amazon Prime and had it in a few days. It worked well, customer support was responsive. Then the USB-C came out and I bought that via Amazon (not Prime) and it came in a few weeks.

I was never approached to return the refund for the CP2A and I sold it on eBay for $165. For some reason these go for a premium. The same Carlinkit sold for $130. My advice, order the USB-C now and either dispute with PayPal or wait for it and sell it or both. The fact that CP2A never came back to me for a return of the refund speaks volumes about the crap show of an operation it is. Nice USA looking website, nothing really behind it.

I am an honest guy and will return the money if asked. Right now I am up a few hundred bucks from re-selling.

Shipping is painfully long. When I paid for mine and after 10 days passed, I contacted them asking for a tracking number, I have been told they are working on it and I shouldn't worry, I never received a tracking number, but the package come one day. This is a normal practice for them, but I would send an email or a message via chat asking about the status of the shipment.

New update posted today.
It is 6.3mb this time and brings the version up to 2020.07.08.1306.

I only did a test install to see if it was a full image or not, have not played around with it yet. Going back to sleep now.

Hey Larry, could you elaborate a bit more on why that is? Is that the one with green elongated light bar across the width?
Ok, first and foremost, this is just my opinion from an end user perceptive. I have not timed responsiveness or taken any videos etc. I used the old USB-A version for 5-6 weeks in my car, which is a Maserati, so I have a pretty good sample. Both functionality of the units was acceptable in my car, but here you go, the USB-C is superior because:

- Boot times from a cold start were much improved, meaning less time for Apple CarPlay to appear and be functional.
- Far less of a need to unplug/plug to resolve connectivity issues. I would say the need to unplug was cut in half. Only a few times per week for me, always after a quick stop and restart of the car.
- Track delay in changing tracks was cut in half. Subsequently eliminated with iOS14
- No permanently affixed cable to break, also provides the ability to use different length cables for different needs.
- Touch screen more responsive and very responsive with iOS14

Yes, the one with the longer LED lights on the front, albeit, very dull illumination.

I never check for OTAs. I use my USB-A model as a test version for manual installs and leave my USB-C version untouched.

(Well, I leave it untouched ever since I accidentally updated it to the June firmware when I didn't pay attention to which one I was updating.)

@StLouisCPhT -- Please let us know how this update performs. I am curious if I even want to bother...I guess I don't have much to lose at this point. As @2018 Denali has the exact same vehicle and issue that I'm dealing with, I'll be very anxious to hear his review of this new firmware as well...

I sent an email to CPlay2Air yesterday, looking for an update on the progress of the updated firmware to resolve the "Five Minute Audio Glitch", and this is the response I received from April:

Hi BUXjr,

Our engineers are still working on it.

No worries, it should be within this month.

Thanks!

Did they already pull this off the server? I went to download it and it appears to be stuck at 2.7MB. @StLouisCPhT , any chance you could post this firmware for us?

I’m not the person to look towards for tests of firmware. I use my units with an Pioneer DMH-C2550NEX headunit, not an OEM one.

Their servers can be finicky about downloads. Sometimes starting a new download while a stuck one is in progress works... sometimes it just gets bogged down and takes time to complete.

10-4, copy that -- it is coming down, albeit VERY slowly...thanks.

One thing I have been meaning to mention regarding the GM vehicles, is to be certain your HMI-based units are up to date on their firmware. GM designed them for OTA updates, but they are known not to push them out consistently. You may have to sweet talk a dealership to check and update them if necessary. I can tell you, as having spent the better part of 2 years working on GM radio programming and update changes in regards to the Gen 1 Mylink units and the BCMs, that will play a big part in how effective add-on hardware will be. I will also mention that similar setups may not be using the same part number components, which could cause trouble with different hardware revisions.

I have attached the new firmware update.

So I just updated my Carlinkit USB-c from 6-19-20 to 7-8-20 and the 5-6 minute audio issue is still there for GM trucks.

Darn. I figured it would be, but was hopeful. Oh well, thanks for testing @2018 Denali and thanks for posting the 2020.07.08 firms, @StLouisCPhT.

This consistent issue with the audio skip since the switch to the June firmwares leads me to believe that this is a new code branch being used and it is coming into a conflict with your HMI firmware. If either of you were in St Louis, I could check and update your systems (if needed) for a lot less than a dealer would ($50 for the programming access & lunch for the labor).

I wish my parents' 2018 Acadia had the Gen 2 Mylink w/ CarPlay system in it so I could test on there. Instead they were only offered the Gen 1 version.
