CarPlay CarPlay adapter to convert to wireless CarPlay?

Well, things are moving and shaking over there -- now the JSON reads:

Notice the download folder has changed to 2020-07-18? Now, it definitely just downloaded for me!

Can anyone with a GM car confirm or deny 5min audio glitch resolution? Denali?

I just connected my phone and searched for the update again. The messages onscreen were different, The upgrade ran successfully & my unit rebooted etc afterwards.
 
@nightmare28, I bit the bullet and successfully flashed my CPLAY2Air to 2020.06.16, then OTA updated to 2020.07.17. Did not run into any problems, working well on my 2018 Volvo XC60
 
Wanted to thank all for the Tip regarding hitting Media keys or similar in the car to refresh blanked out screen. Works perfectly in zero seconds. Will have to try the new July update soon.

Can you put a link here for CPLAY2Air 2020.06.16? You make a downgrade also from the 2020.07.08.1306 because of the problems with BT connection after update?
 
I updated to 2020.07.17 using OTA. Everything seems to work. But after re-booting the same update is still offered.
Is there anyone who really updated and checked after that the real software version?

People with GM vehicles having the issue where the dongle interface won’t work or load when you are trying to initially setup it up this worked for me. Alright so what I did was I went into developer mode on the radio itself and toggled through some of the options without changing anything and then returning to home page by selecting the home button on the radio. Here is a link to how to put the radio in developer mode.
In case; you don’t want to watch the video, it’s pressing the Power button + Home button + Menu button at the same time.

I’m not sure if this resets something or what, but it worked for me after weeks trying to get my 2017 Chevy Tahoe to recognize the dongle was plugged in. I would do this without having the dongle plugged in and once you exit developer mode plug in the dongle.

I have a 2016 GMC Sierra All Terrain. Carplay has never worked great even when wired, but I decided to give the CarPlay2Air a try. I've been following the forums and just tried the Developer Mode on my Intellilink unit. I cannot even get to the first screen to setup the device. All I have ever seen is "Projection" on the head unit in the truck. So frustrating I cannot get this to even start working. If anyone has any ideas I am all ears!
 
Just did OTA 2020.07.17.1459 on both my CPlay2Air and my Carlinkitv2. Cplay2Air is now a brick. :(

Carlinkitv2 updated 100% successfully and reports as so. BUT sadly the 5min audio glitch is STILL THERE. Started somewhere between 5mins30secs and 6mins. So, still waiting... At least there has been a flurry of activity from the engineers lately. I'm hopeful one of these days there will be a firmware update that will fix this issue.

Do you see any of the LED lights on the adapter? Also, if you've been following along, you'll note that on GM products, you need to let the head unit get totally booted up, BEFORE you plug that adapter in. If you have it in the USB jack at start up, it most likely won't connect. I'm sure you know this, but JIC. Let us know if you see any lights.

Sorry about the delay, had "real" work to attend to 😭

@LarryJoe33: motivation was to see if I would see any improvement in the (already acceptable, though not amazing) boot up time. Also saw someone post about hearing back from the devs regarding the Music app onscreen controls having the outlines/boxes. Experiencing the same, and while total tenable, is a peeve compared to the clean look from the wired connection – was hoping but not expecting to see progress on that bug.

Trying it as I type.

My Carlinkit USB-c on OTA 7-17 still has the 5-6 minute audio distortion. 👎 on 2018 and 2017 GMC Truck

Just did 7/17 OTA Calinkit Wired
model, so far so good. Only thing of note on iphone screen while updating it never got past 90 percent but i waited until i saw the adapter reconnect and show carplay on my Cars AV system. Always wait never rush it whether OTA or usb upgrade.

Were any of the above fixed/ improved in this build? Mine works well enough but would upgrade if there is improvements!

Maybe a “Safari seems snappier”-worth of boot time improvement – nothing drastic (but wasn’t sure just how old my FW was upon receipt of device this week). No dice on the Music app outlined-buttons [harumph]

Hi this morning I do the update, put the original download from carlinkit on a usb Stick. Do not connect iPhone to the adapter, WiFi/bt off.
Then put the stick into the working adapter. After ~10 sec update success on the screen. Then connect iPhone only via WiFi to my carlinkit adapter (KIA123, passwd 12345678). Open the http://192.168.50.2 page on the iPhone. Press the update button. Depending on connect the update counter on iPhone goes to 80% on car-screen update in progress was display & not turn off the engine! After some minutes (3-4) Update success on iPhone safari but counter moved for some seconds to 90%, thought something was going wrong. Some seconds later update success on car-screen and a reboot button. After pressing this the iPhone connects smoothly to the carlinkit adapter. Looking at the update webpage, latest update is installed!
All fine many thanks for your Great help. I did not get any answer from carlinkit Facebook until now....

Could you share what model Kia and Adapter you are using?
 
@KevinGrabher . I have a Kia Niro HEV MY17, German top edition, called Spirit with a 8‘‘ Tft AVN. Starting in January 2020 with the old usb-a carplay2air adapter until it bricked by an ota update in late June.
now I have installed the carlinkit usb-c original adapter, the latest one :). I had no big issues with both of the adapters.....
 
Hi, does anyone here have any luck with a stable connection to Carplay2Air on their Mercedes A-Class W176? My dongle keeps getting disconnected every minute or so and then attempts to reconnect again almost immediately. Even with a wired connection via lightning cable, it still gets disconnected.

Hi, I have a Mercedes SLC and I have the same issue. The dongle is unusable!!!

Thanks for sharing! I reached out to their tech support and they replied only after I initiated a refund process via PayPal and the steps which their tech support has shared are not helping and I am getting increasingly frustrated. Did you manage to get a refund or you just kept the product?
 
if one of these adapters which should only be bought from someplace like Amazon or Ebay does not work durring their typical no questions asked return period return it. You can always buy again later. Carlinkit is a great hack but only a hack there is no Apple official support support to do wired to wireless and car AV systems seem to implement Car Play in such a varied manner that it is no simple trick to make a truly universal firmware that works. Know that an AV or IOS update can render the hack better or worse. Applying firmware updates to any device involves a certain amount of risk especially if interrupted. I am very happy the device exists none the less. I would never go back to wired. Lastly buy Carlinkit brand not private labelers like Carplay and Copilot. They don't add value or better support, actually worse.

Succesfully updated from latest official release (january) by using the file on the official website.

Connected a usb with the provided 06-16 update in it to the powered unit and it does a quick update and restart.

After that, successful update using browser method to 07.17 firmware.


On my VW Golf 7 MY2016 with a MIB Discover Media with Carplay activated everything still works perfectly as before, no new noticeable problems or issues.
 
Been testing OTA 7/17 works very well in my Palisade so far. Seems to start up quicker and fingers crossed less or no blank screens yet (AV system media key or similar brings it back if it occurs, which it has not).
