This black screen bug has been talked about some over the last couple of weeks. I encountered it when updating to 7.17 and now on 8.4. It is so annoying and I’ve brought it up to customer support several times. Nothing we can do but wait for them to fix it. Let us know if you figure out a way to fix it, but looks like a future update is the only solution.

Yes - we'll need a firmware update to fix. I've just posted a bug report and log file to their Whatsapp channel. At least there is a work-around, and I'm very impressed with how quick it seems to connect now.

@2018 Denali I am assuming you have a Heads Up Display on your 2018 Denali. On the 07.29 update when you displayed the music info on the HUD it would often take a minute or two for the songs to change from the previous song played to the current one. Now on the 08.04 FW, no song info appears on the HUD. Can you confirm this on your end? Just for clarity, I have a 2017 Tahoe.

I have a 2017 Tahoe. Music (iTunes) shows in the dash and HUD. Music in dash tracks with the radio display. Previously the dash had about a two minute lag. I’m on 8/4 firmware and IOS 14.4 beta.
One problem I do have is periodic stuttering while playing iTunes and using Waze. I can now adjust the volume of notifications in Waze which I could not do before. I don’t know whether this is the firmware upgrade to 8/4 or iOS 14.4 beta as I did them both basically at the same time.

My U2W Plus occassional is stuck at Starting Airplay in my C300 on both 7/29 and 8/4 builds. It does not do that on the 7/18 build.

I linked two separate iPhones to my Cplay2air at some point in time, now when it's trying to establish a connection it shows both iphones on the initial screen and it takes a few seconds trying to determine which iphone is present to connect to. Any idea how to remove the iPhone that I no longer use to speed up things a bit?

Hey fluke, when it’s showing the screen with both devices, hold down on the device that you want to get rid of. Hold it for 5-10 seconds and it should bring up a screen that says delete.

Thanks man, I'll give that a try.

Edit: worked exactly like you have described. Thanks again.

So here's a weird one....my mate D3ggy just called me to check something out.
Before the 8.04 firmware, my USB-A would not show calls in the dash, nor allow the use of steering wheel buttons for calls. My USB-C dongle always worked. (In the same vehicle)

Since the upgrade to 8.04, the USB-A now works perfectly with calls in the dash and the buttons, along with the USB-C.

I had always used this as an excuse to maintain there was a hardware difference between A and C, but now they both operate the same as long as using 8.04 firmware.

Good to hear Alan!

What is interesting to note is they do use the same hardware, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are setup the same way on the motherboards. I suspect that is why people were finding the USB-C version to perform a bit faster and behave a little differently.... especially since the usb-c port is USB 2.0 not USB 3.x.

I just found this forum. I just got the cplay2air for my 2016 Silverado and I can’t get it connected. I’ve tried to read through this thread but there is alot to it. I’ve tried forgetting the truck in Bluetooth not being connected to any WiFi. The red power light is on but nothing comes up on the truck screen and nothing in Bluetooth. I emailed the company but haven’t heard back yet. Thanks in advance.

One thing that got me was I had to leave my Apple Watch inside or turn it off to establish the initial Bluetooth pairing Between my phone and the carlinkit. After that initial pairing then the Apple watch no longer interfered with the connection.

One thing you should have gleaned from this thread is GM vehicles require the infotainment system to boot before you power the dongle. So wait at least ten seconds before plugging in the dongle.

Anyone here, who can help with my Carlinkit-Problems with my Mercedes-Benz A-Class? Carlinkit V2 is losing connection every 2-3 minutes. Little bit better with the iOS 14 beta. Any other idea? WhatsApp didn`t help - no answer...

What firmware are you running?

I would like to update my Carlinkit 2.0 USB-C adapter. Which one is the safer method not to brick it? OTA or via USB?

It’s highly debatable with mixed results. Personally, I consider OTA safer. I’ve bricked a device manually and have had success manually, but I’ve updated OTA 5 or 6 times with no issue. The only consideration is if you want a firmware not available OTA then you have to go manual update.

no Apple Watch nothing else was connected to Bluetooth either. Thanks

Ok will try but don’t think it will help.

@John Swiderski that’s great to hear!

People with GM vehicles having the issue where the dongle interface won’t work or load when you are trying to initially setup it up this worked for me. Alright so what I did was I went into developer mode on the radio itself and toggled through some of the options without changing anything and then returning to home page by selecting the home button on the radio. Here is a link to how to put the radio in developer mode.
In case; you don’t want to watch the video, it’s pressing the Power button + Home button + Menu button at the same time.

I’m not sure if this resets something or what, but it worked for me after weeks trying to get my 2017 Chevy Tahoe to recognize the dongle was plugged in. I would do this without having the dongle plugged in and once you exit developer mode plug in the dongle.

@Allysdad did you try this?

all Mercedes Customers have this problem unfortunately and I am one of them. This problem has existed since the introduction of Carlinkit and the engineers at the company cannot find a solution. I don't know if they're really looking.

I wouldn’t agree with all mercedes have this problem. I have a mercedes c class 2019 and it works and has always worked without any issues, apart from slight lag changing tracks. I’m using both the newer usb c device and the older usb carplay2air device. Only issue is that upgrading devices can and those cause bricking, had it happen once before. But in my mercedes absolutely brilliant no disconnects at all.
I am also using latest beta 14 on my iPhone.
