Good deal, glad you were able to sort that out. I am thinking of getting another dongle just for that reason. Are you planning on updating the dongle you brought up from the dead to a firmware that works in your vehicle, say the 8-4 since your already have the 7-29 to compare and contrast? Do you by any chance have the 07-29-2020 update? I kinda need that.
I did update one first, then verify that all was working well, before seeing if my other one would update OTA -- which it did. So, now I have two, at 2020.08.04. Both working great!

Sure, I am attaching 2020.07.29. Just unzip it prior to putting it on the thumb drive root.

OTA Updated BOTH of my adapters to 2020.08.04.1602, without a hitch! Both seem to work as expected. Can't say that the tracks switch any quicker than 2020.07.29, but I am also not on iOS14 yet, so I think that helps. No audio glitches, connecting without issues. Nice!
Nice! Phew!

Yeah, iOS14 really speeds things up. I tested it a bit at lunch, it does seem track changes are a tad faster, but nothing like the improvement going from iOS13 to iOS14. It's really close to instantaneous.

Yeah, that sounds great. I can't wait to step up to iOS14. But, I'm a "wait till gold master release" kinda guy when it comes to my primary phone. Soon. But very exciting to hear about the improvements.

Hi,
i own a Mercedes W176 from 2015 and I have the same problem. I try to fix it since a few weeks. Tried everything, no chance. There are a few users who report this problem. Seems, that carlinkit/carplay2air seems to have a Mercedes-problem...
ok thanks, so at the moment there is no solution?

I do not have a MBZ in the garage anymore, with which to test. However, from what I've read, the answer on this is, "not at this time". Not to fear -- I'm sure the engineers are working to make this solution inclusive of MBZ, in short order. If it were my company, MBZ compatibility (among MANY others) would have been in the initial RFP!

But again, I'm not the MBZ aficionado in here...there are a few. Hang in there.

8/4 OTA Palisade as noted earlier upgrade when smooth. Have had the opportunity now test of a couple of days. Seems to work well. Have to say in my car does not seem demonstrably different then updates since 3/4.

I think I have checked the thread pretty thoroughly, but did I miss a discussion of the security consideration of this product? Looking for a sensible way to assess risk given the current environment. Thanks in advance.

Hey all just a word to the wise about IOS 14 Beta or any Apple IOS Beta.
- If your low on space DONT.
- In fact if you do not have A LOT of free space DONT. I took my Ipad 2019 for a spin on IOS 14 Beta. I had around 15-16GB free, IOS took down to around 2.5GB free. Deleted a bunch of stuff rebooted a bunch of times battled up to 6-9GB free. Test drove it for a couple of weeks. Nice enough. Then decided I wanted my space back and had to DFU mode restore IOS 13 /wipe and restore IOS13 from a computer and restore my data from an Icloud back up. You can also restore from a computer if you did a local back up. Either way you have to set some stuff up again like you bought something new.

Long story short IOS beta takes up way more space and you can not downgrade only upgrade unless you DFU restore from a computer and set up as new device. As I type this my Ipad has almost 18GB free back on IOS13.

That’s all been corrected in beta 3 and 4. In fact it really wasn’t taking up the space you mentioned, it was a bug in displaying storage.

This is a Mac forum, plenty of iOS 14 threads if you all want to read up.

I did spend some time thinking about this issue but I don't think there's a way for the adapter to access sensitive data or upload the video feed or audio feed (which is essentially the only thing it gets) anywhere.

As far as I know the adapter never gets an internet connection (it would need to get it from the iPhone which would probably only work with Personal Hotspot turned on, and even then the iPhone should show the hotspot connection).
The way I think OTA Updates work is that the Adapter creates a local web server and the iPhone is actually the device that will do the img-download and then upload it to the adapter('s local webserver). This could probably be checked pretty easily using a Mac and WebInspector.. I believe someone earlier in the thread also checked what actually gets uploaded when you send a log (but again, Safari wouldn't just let you upload data from your phone anyways).

ok friend, hope keeps alive! 😅
Did you test to put iOS 14 on your iPhone to see if that made a difference?
Yes, i´m on the newest developer beta. Feels better, maybe a bit more stable. This morning i drove about 20 minutes without problems.

... but when I drove home, the problems are back...

Thanks Larry. I did read up some while it was going on, though at the time most of the threads I found were about older IOS beta. There are settings for sending info back Apple some attributed space usage to that. Interesting about it being a display bug. I still would be careful and we prepared for the shake and back of restoring older IOS and resetting up.

Note as well while you can do a local back up and cloud back ups you have to use an IOS13 back up to restore your data. So over time your IOS 13 backs up may been all supplanted by IOS14 back ups. Also your back ups may be less and less relevant if too much time has passed. I enjoyed the IOS 14 beta 2. Just thought people should know the process.

Understood. You are more cautious than I. I did not backup a copy of iOS13 before taking the plunge. I am an iCloud Storage guy and pretty much every setting or app I can pick to be backed up to the cloud nightly is checked. Meaning if I had to to a clean revert to 13 install, turning on iCloud will bring everything back.

I have to say, the improvements alone to CarPlay and how it works with our dongles in 14 was certainly worth the "risk" of going Beta 1. Additionally, I have only noticed a few bugs that really are more annoying than inhibitors. Wait until you guys try 14. It's going to be like Carlinkit issued a FW that improved the device greatly.

I bought the 2.0 version from Amazon. Everything was working great, did some upgrades and got it to 7-29-20. Soon as I flashed to 8-4-20, the device no longer even shows up as a device in my car, nothing happens. No bluetooth connection, red light on the device. I can't seem to get it back now. Does anyone happen to have the FW file for 8-4 that I can try via USB?

Edit found at: http://112.74.112.110/download/2020-08-04/U2W_Update.img

Thread is pretty long but I feel like I have this correct: FAT32 formatted thumb drive with the firwmare in the root directory. Plug into wall wart, lights flash red/green, let sit for a few minutes then unplug it.

Double edit: Worked! Device brought back from the dead. Oddly I had to format the drive using a windows box. Format FAT32 drive from mac didn't seem to flash the firwmare correctly even after the green blinking light sequence.

Looks like I am the only one still having issues! I cannot get any lights to appear :( I have formatted it for FAT32. I left it in for 15 minutes and still no lights, plugged it back into the car and nothing.

units are USB-C.
Steps:
1.) format fat32 USB 2gb and tried 8gb
2.) connect USB to CarPlay dongle
3.) connect CarPlay dongle now into power adapter. I have used a USB-c to USB female adapter and tried both a MacBook Pro charger and an iPad charger with USB-c to USB adapter
4.) wait 15 minutes
5.) remove CarPlay adapter from power supply, remove USB port.
6.) try again in car, no lights, I also tried into the power adapter again without USB stick and no lights.

Try this on your bricked unit.

1. With your truck on and wireless CarPlay running search 192.168.50.2 it should show you the firmware update to 8-4-20 on your phone. Keep this page open.

2. Connect the bricked unit to the wall power brick.

3. Connect a iPhone/iPad lightning cord to the bricked unit.

4. Connect your phone to the lightning cord.

5. Now press the update firmware tab on safari on your iPhone screen and let it go through the process.

6. This worked for me on my Carlinkit usb-c once when I couldn’t get it to do anything.

1.) does this mean I have to be in range to a power point if I am meant to be running my car and connecting to 192.168.50.2 in the same vicinity as the bricked device connected to an iPad charger? Or as long as I turn car on with working dongle, access 192.168.50.2 and get to that screen to show check for updates, I can then turn car off and then go inside?

3.) Regarding point 3 when you connect iPhone cable the USB adapter in the iPad charger is showing no lights, should the iPhone be charging? Because mine didn’t when I tried iPad charger and iPhone cable into dongle.

My initial success with the 2020 Colorado is now sketchy again with the infotainment 3 Chevy system. the dongle started not to connect within the 40 seconds of start up, but would sometime take 2-10 minutes, sometimes not at all. I erased all settings on phone and reset my network settings, and started over Afresh. I’m sure now that I would not recommend this carlinkit or carplay2air for anyone whose head unit is chevy’s latest version. I have read good results with the earlier ones, but mine makes connections random at best.

1. Is with a working Dongle on older firmware then 8-4-20 so it shows an update is available.

I just had a thought of a possible other way to gets these working again. I just don’t have a bricked unit to try it on.

Try this on your bricked unit.

1. Connect the bricked unit to a iPad wall charger and to the outlet for power.

2. Connect a iPhone/iPad lightning cable to the dongle.

3. Connect your iPhone to the lightning cable.

4. Open safari and search 192.168.50.2

5. Hopefully it shows you an available update. If it does click update.

Please let us all know if this works.

Should this show a charging symbol and or does yours charge your phone when you connect to power?

3. Connect your iPhone to the lightning cable.

4. Open safari and search 192.168.50.2

I assume I disconnect off home wifi first?

5. Hopefully it shows you an available update. If it does click update.

No luck unfortunately

Dang it. 👎

does that setup look right? Or would you prefer it to be usb-c to USB-c (iPad cable from power adapinto CarPlay adapter and then iPhone cable?

rather than my current setup USB-c to usb-a female then CarPlay usb-a to usb-a female

when your iPhone is connected to wall power adapter and then USB to lightning does your phone charge or also does nothing?

i noticed the guy above that bricked his was able to get red/ green lights to flash, mine shows nothing.
