Maybe they should have added laser disc, beta max and blu-ray. This company is SO strange.
Yeah, their English wording and phrasing leaves something to be desired. Even the the update webpage returning “it is the latest version” is not ideal. Something like “Update available” or “No update available”

the cd/dvd quality choice thing need only be some combination of low, standard/normal or high.

still happy it is finally working for me though.

Hm,
Update 8.10. is shown. But I cannot install it. It downloads, then upgrade successful. But instead of updating the dongle, it just makes a reboot. After that the update is still offered.

Edit: An Update using USB worked. But after that I got the message „CarPlay could not be started“ from my Mercedes C Class.
I downgraded to 7.29. version and everything is fine, again.

Do you remember your default settings? I’m curious if the unit is smart enough to alter these based on the unit it detects or if they go for a one option fits all option (which I suspect is the case here)

Edit: Played with my settings a bit too, like you on 300 I got audio stuttering, same with 400 so I settled at 500. I tried CD quality and for some reason my car at first treated it as a phone call rather than audio playing so only come out front speakers - it did correct it’s self but that was odd, I did set back to DVD. Track skipping is pretty good now, I’m not on iOS 14 yet so hopefully see the improvements mentioned with that and it will be pretty instant!

I’m positive the default was 1000 for delay and I’m 95% sure DVD was the default.

I seem to remember someone earlier in the thread having trouble with third-party USB cables and then realizing that the problem is the case of the Carlinkit--the USB-C port is recessed and most/many third-party USB-C cables' plugs are too large to fit. Maybe try trimming the plastic on one of your third-party cables to see if you can get it to fully insert.

Doesn't seem to be the two usb-c cables I've tried both say they are for data, and their plug jacket size is smaller and depth is at least as long as the included cable, one is maybe a 32nd inch longer. Neither work, it's possible the data feed in the truck doesn't work, but I don't happen to have a phone I can test carplay and usb-c with.

I'll email carlinkit and see if they have a recommendation.

The track changing issue on the Pioneer headunits also occurs if you try to move to the next song from the Pioneer home screen. It is not restricted to the steering wheel controls.

With that said, what interface did each of you use to install your headunits?

Because I’m in an 02 Camry, I do not have steering wheel controls so I can’t comment on that. Personally I have not encountered track skipping problems for awhile, maybe since 6.17 or earlier.

I’m a little confused by your last question. My headunit is connected by a wiring harness that crutchfield does for custom vehicles. It cost $25 and was absolutely worth it. I just plugged one side into my HU and the other into the existing connectors from the old radio, so simple and easy.

Blank screen is my only bug I’m concerned about. I still have to hit the media button two or three times for CarPlay to be displayed.

I included you in the post because I was wondering if you were directly connected or still needed to use an interface module even though you don't have the steering wheel controls. I'm guessing that means if you try to change tracks from the Pioneer home screen while using wireless CarPlay (instead of the CarPlay screen) it doesn't try to keep changing the tracks?

I'm still trying to figure out why using 2 units in sequence not only prevents the track changing issue (forward and backwards) but also prevents the black screen issue.

This is what I used. The reason you need the interface is because for this model Honda in the UK, the display for the air con is tied to the stereo, so there is some logic in the box with this to allow it to work. in terms of the headunit, it's just an adapter to avoid you having to splice wires.

I've actually just ordered a new car which is a Toyota with built in CarPlay (not wired) so will see how it gets on when it arrives next month.

I too funny enough have a c class mercedes 2019. The latest 8.10 update is offered on my carlink usb c i install it, it says 100% and success then when I go into updates on 192.... it offers the same update again.
so I don’t know why it won’t update. I don’t want to keep trying just in case I get another brick... worst nightmare for me... any ideas?? Thanks

Although, I am encouraged by this latest release and the web tweaking settings for delay and audio quality. Shows they are trying to address the lack of an instant track skip. Mine is ~almost~ on par with wired CarPlay, but could be better.

Anyone in U.K. have a Vauxhall with any of these dongles please?

Specifically one with the Intellilink system to see if they’ve ever got it working.

If read thread, you’ll know mine has never worked, CarLinkIt v1.

Looking for help....

I am also having the same issue with my E class mercedes - 8.10 offered but after upgrade it just reboots and offers it again and again. If I install it over USB i get "cannot activate carplay" - downgraded back to 8.04 and working again (but i get regular crashes). Other people 8.10 works but quite a few mercedes people getting the update loop - maybe it knows its not compatible and does a query of the head unit and then doesnt update OTA?

Interesting. Is it software configurable or just what you see if what you get? I have the iDatalink Maestro and I was wondering if the pioneer issues could be caused by the control the Maestro has over the USB port.

The Carlinkit 2.0 has a lot of promise for me. I am still having problems with the Caddy ATS and the Carlinkit connecting when the car is started. It has never worked (which is the whole point). If I unplug the dongle and replug it then wireless CarPlay will connect.

With that said, I've been in contact with them via WhatsApp and they have been responsive, actually, which is not what I expected out of a Chinese company. I even exchanged messages to them in real time, which is great. They suggested some things (which I did because due diligence and crossing the T's and dotting the I's). I finally uploaded log info with the latest build and a description of the problem at their request. So I'm hopeful that they'll get it sorted out.

But I'm guessing that there is a delay/retry situation needed as it seems like the Carlinkit is trying to contact the head unit and it's not ready and it just doesn't try again. Considering wired CarPlay connects correctly at start, there's no real reason why the dongle shouldn't do it as well.

But what I'm wondering is if anyone else see's the odd display differences between the wired CarPlay and the connection through Carlinkit? It's as if the resolution through Carlinkit is smaller than the actual screen size and the button surrounds are visible where in wired they are not visible. I'll have to screenshot the differences and post.

When this happens for you do you see the connecting page saying to search for this device on Bluetooth or something along them lines but with no name of the head unit? It’s rare for me in my car but occasionally it will get stuck on that screen never displaying my cars head unit name.

I think in terms of the pioneer, that module does nothing at all. Pretty sure all the leads are direct from the cars wiring loom to the input on the pioneer. The module is only because for my Honda, controls to set various functions on the car are done on the fitted radio. The control box just allows you to set these functions with the steering controls instead.

It's possible to make it work without that box and wire direct to a third party head unit but you then lose the functions you have to set on the factory head unit.

My gut feeling is the Pioneer problems are just a software bug in the Carlinkit firmware.

Also if I remove my iPhone from the car, even when I plug in iPhone afterwards there is an extra step, on the screen it says “activate” before even wired CarPlay works.

I wonder if this is an issue for the dongle? As I say it pops up the icon but then disappears again all the time dongle is plugged in.

Not sure how to get around the issue or if the “activate” step is needed for the dongle.

That.... is probably why you are having issues. The devices need to be activated if they are running firmware older than 2020.03.18. 2020.03.18 and newer removed the activation. It sounds like you are still getting hit with the need to activate which is why your device isn't working.

I'm at work another 3 and half hours, but I might be able to help you out. Send me a Pm at that time.

Hi

It’s not the old activation server for the dongle, I’m on 2020-08-10, the latest, it’s on my actual car system. When you plug in a new iPhone, wired, on the car screen it asks to “activate” it otherwise the CarPlay icon doesn’t show on the car screen.

If I plug the dongle in, I can even goto the webpage 192.168.50.2 and see the screens for version, update, and now the new DVD/CD delay options.

Thanks

Just Did the OTA 8/10 in my Palisade initial testing looks good.

Does Siri currently work in your Palisade? I haven't moved up to 8/10 yet, but on 8/4 triggering Siri causes CarPlay to disconnect. I'm not yet sure if this is an IOS 14 bug, or Carlinkit bug. I'll have to test it with a Wired connection to be sure.

Edit : I just updated to 08/10, and the Siri problem seems fixed. I still got a black screen when connecting after the (OTA) update though.

Ooooooh... now that is strange. It sounds like a firmware issue with your radio. Have you ever made it in to see if there are any new versions available?
