I'd say yes, but as far as I am aware, jfresu is using an OEM radio.

What is really interesting is that I have contacted iDatalink about the exact behavior seen by me and jfresu (although they hadn't posted yet) and they are unable to reproduce it on any of their pioneer test units when using wired CarPlay. I also reached out to Pioneer, but they have never responded.
I didn’t mention it, but in my case I have built-in factory CarPlay. When using wired CarPlay this behavior doesn’t happen

Even more odd... especially since none of the functions that cause this behavior would normally have anything to do with CarPlay (wired or wireless), even though they do interact with the headunit. Sounds more and more like headunit firmware not the activators. On the flip side though, this same behavior is what allows the ability to quickly reset the black screen issue without having to unplug the activator or completely power off the headunit.

I do know from testing in my case, that configuring the Maestro RR to disable on screen display of my climate controls prevents the behavior as does disabling the backup camera on my HU.

If you read the thread the delay issue is a known issue with GM vehicles and several people have built time delay relays using different methods to make it connect every time. You need a 10 to 15 second delay.
Yeah, I see that, t hanks. I have been working with Carlinkit guys providing log info to see if we can get a resolution. Last night they told me to grab the latest build but none was available as of this writing. It's good to see them being responsive and working with customers, even more than most US companies. Here's hoping they actually have a build that provides a delay/retry that helps.

I will be asking them about the look/feel thing because, while it's not a deal breaker it just looks unfinished and I certainly prefer the cleaner look.

On the bonus side, I was able to run Carlinkit in my car for about 2+ hours yesterday and it worked very well. Every once in a while it will get a hit in the audio, but it isn't very significant.

Now, if I can just get it to work when the car starts I'll be happy as a clam.

When this happens for you do you see the connecting page saying to search for this device on Bluetooth or something along them lines but with no name of the head unit? It’s rare for me in my car but occasionally it will get stuck on that screen never displaying my cars head unit name.
Nothing happens. Carlinkit doesn't connect to the car with CarPlay and it's interface is not available. If I just unplug Carlinkit and replug then it works.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. On every stock head unit, wired CarPlay does not display this behavior with the blue boxes. If your Pioneer aftermarket head unit does this when wired as well as wireless, it's definitely a Pioneer issue or feature?

You're pretty picky or OCD;). I can barely tell the difference beside the highlighted buttons. Something tells me it's gonna be a awhile, if ever.

How do you communicate with the carlinkit guys? I just get no answer with whatsapp. Still trying to get help with my MB A-class. The dongle still loses connection all the time. Tried all versions, iphone X on iOS 14 beta 5.

WhatsApp has been my connection. We've even exchanged messages in real time later at night (11PM PDT).

What number please, I used to get a response on WhatsApp, but now get no delivery or reply.

Hello, I have the Carlinkit model U2W-01-PLUS according to the picture. I think I have managed to update the firmware to U2W 2020-08-10 using a memory stick. The problem is that I am stuck with it saying I have to activate it.
I have a Volvo XC40 2021 and iPhone X. I can't get it to update online and I can't use it, until I get pass the activation.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

Hi, I think someone else reported this same problem with applying the 08.10 update via USB a few days ago. You may need to USB flash to the 08.04 version and then do an OTA update to 08.10 (or skip it altogether--I think the OTA version also has some issues).

Well, initial CarPlay had all those button and was very clunky looking, I was stoked when the button surrounds finally went away and presented a much cleaner interface. So, it just feel like going back in time. Plus the weird highlighted button that seems to change for no known reason to other buttons, it's just... So anyway, to answer your question, probably some of both. o_O

That's because they're in China--15 hours ahead of PDT. So 11pm for you is 2pm there. Probably wouldn't get any immediate replies if you send them between, say 3am and 5pm your time.

Ah ok thanks, that’s one I have. Must just ignore me now then....
Ooof. I didn't look, but is your car on their list of supported cars? Did they respond at all?

I try to, "appease the gods," in every way possible when dealing with a support group, especially one in China. What I mean by that is to be clear, concise and entertain every whim of the support people's suggestions, even if you've already done the thing already. And, throw in some, "great product," comments.

Hi, do you know how to get the 08.07 version?
I have tried a couple of versions now, all of them tells me I need activate.
The dongle worked when it had the 2019.11.11 version but after I did the update according to the link below I am stuck at the activation part.

I had some problems with the regular USB version, basically it wouldn’t connect about 50% of the time, and I would have to unplug it and plug it again, sometimes several times. I see that there is a “new” USB-C version, any chance it works better? Should I give it another go with that version?
Also, I’ve heard that iOS 14 somehow works better with this, is this right?

Except that iDatalink has stated that they can not replicate the issue with their pioneer units using wired CarPlay. But will not tell me specifically what firmware they are on (8.xx series or 18.xx series), just that they tried to reproduce it with all the firmwares. I chose not to tell them about it happening also with the wireless CarPlay activator... You know they'll try to put the blame on that immediately even though it happens with it completely uninstalled.

You're pretty picky or OCD;). I can barely tell the difference beside the highlighted buttons. Something tells me it's gonna be a awhile, if ever.

I was thinking the same thing :p The only reason the highlighting bugs me is because it will move each time I go into reverse or adjust my climate controls and eventually will start switching the actual CarPlay screens too: (GPS/Audio screen to Audio only screen to Installed Apps screen to GPS/Audio Screen, etc). If the highlighting just stayed on the screen I was on, I could live with it.

It is a shame the dongle cannot be just a Wifi link that sends all the same data as the USB, but it seems that the airplay mechanism used by wireless is quite different to that used by USB and that is why we get different behaviour.

It seems the way airplay works is that the car sends some sort of configuration packet that tells the phone what features it has (dial/button/touch screen/steering controls etc.) and the phone then adjusts what it puts on the screen. In this case with the CarLinkIt, it seems someone has reverse engineered this configuration packet and is miscommunicating some configuration items like whether a car has a dial and button. So in USB mode it gets the configuration correctly, but in wireless mode it is hardwired to support the dial and button.

If all the dongle did was convert a USB bitstream to a wireless bitstream, the behaviour should be the same and all these behavioural bugs would not happen... but it is obviously doing a lot more than that.

Sorry, I meant 08.04. I think 2018 Denali posted it in the thread--check back for posts from early August. If you can't find it then look back a little further as there was an update posted in late July that would work too.

Edit: Ah I see that you had the original 2019 v1 firmware and had to flash the v2 conversion firmware. I had the same issue back in January. I contacted Carlinkit support (I used amazon's messaging system but you can email sales@carlinkit.com or use whatsapp) and they sent me a password to enter on the activation screen.

However, my understanding is that the June/July firmwares do away with the activation bit. So maybe try the 07.29 firmware via USB and see if that works. If not, I think maybe your only recourse is to contact Carlinkit and show them your screenshots. They will probably have you send them a log file.

Just use the official Update here:

then simply install the latest OTA update
it worked without any problems for me
