What version does it show on 192.168.50.2 on iPhone. Any other options or anything you’ve found?
Shows VER:2020.08.22.1441 - no changes in menu although have noticed I don’t see the blue lines around icons now but they didn’t always appear, anyone else noticed same?

A new wireless CarPlay dongle from JoyeAuto with its own firmware?

Looking forward to Joyeauto's adapter as both Carplay2air and Carlinkit don't support 2018 and newer Honda Accords.

Got reply from Joyeauto that they didn't get a chance to test their adapter on 2018 and newer Accords.

CarplayLife says Joyeauto uses properitery software.

Anyone tried Joyeauto??

Thanks

Good news GM owners!!! Looks like Carlinkit has finally fixed the need for a start up time delay relay in the manual firmware update 8-22-20.

I’ve been running it for a couple hours and plugged into a regular USB port and has connected every time now.

Looking at the lights from my CarPlay2air it blinks red at start up then I think it checks if it’s displaying anything on the screen if it’s not it restarts itself and then connects total time about 25-30 seconds.

Good job Carlinkit!!!

I knew software could fix the issue!
Will wonders ever cease?! I'll pop 2020.08.22.1441 on later today (on ONE of my adapters) and test this as well. Certainly very good news! Thanks for the report, @2018 Denali and @Fluke1!

Just as I got all of my delay harness wiring all tucked away...doh! ;)

A new wireless CarPlay dongle from JoyeAuto with its own firmware?

Anyone making these dongles could change the connection screen & claim it is their own firmware.

Looking at the video review, it is lacking in 3 areas:

1) Steering Wheel controls. They only show it being tested for volume control. No attempts to change tracks, no attempts to make or end phone calls, no attempts to access Siri.
2) Changing the display on the screen. Does the dongle think that other parts of the vehicle are controls for the head unit?
3) Powering on. They only show a time test where they shut off the vehicle and took out the key, then started it back up. Nowhere do they show how it behaves if it is turned off for a significant period of time with the dongle left plugged in. Does it have the blank screen issue?

Sent an email to JoyeAuto asking these questions, waiting on a reply.

It looks just like a expensive rebranded Carlinkit with different welcome screen. Also that plastic quality looks really bad...

So uhm, hypothetically - If you have an adapter from Amazon, and one from them directly, and it's the same model, and one breaks. How would you know wether you should return it to them (to China) or Amazon (for free), given that they have no serial printed on them?

No brainer, return to Amazon. You are right, there are no differences and there is no way to tell which is which. Ethically, no issues. You aren’t screwing amazon, they will just send it back and get their money back from Carlinkit. In the end, Carlinkit gets it back.

Damn shame how easy that is. Imagine some of the people here with bricks buying a new adapter on Amazon and then just sending the brick back, I mean.. HOPE I'M NOT GIVING ANYONE IDEAS

Not gonna lie, I did that. Like I said, in the end, it makes its way back to “Chhhhhina”

Since it has a built-in male USB port in addition to the cable, it's not quite a rebranded unit.

I contacted them. They confirmed (what we already knew really anyway), that CarLinkIt and CarPlay2Air are the same dongle, but didn’t really comment on their dongle.

I asked if it would support my car, as it’s listed on their website as it would.

They replied and said we haven’t tested it yet on your car!?! Same as CarLinkIt and CarPlay2Air, they just say will work when we all know it probably won’t....

A new wireless CarPlay dongle from JoyeAuto with its own firmware?

That thing looks like a giant eye sore. Definitely would not fit in the hideaway spot I have my USB-C.

I have a 2014 Toyota Highlander. It does have a standard USB port but it doesn't appear to provide enough power to charge an iPhone XS (apparently it's a known "issue"). I do not believe the car has wired CarPlay. I emailed the Carplay2air company and was told that as long as I have a standard USB port it will work. Does that sound right? It seems most of the review videos say your car needs to have wired CarPlay. TIA

You need a factory installed radio with wired CarPlay or an aftermarket Pioneer/Alpine/Kenwood radio with wired CarPlay for ANY wireless CarPlay dongle to work.

that's my case. and it's true that I wondered if my disconnection problems could come from wireless charging. But I haven't tried to take it down. and I don’t think it came from there because Nikomank has the same issues with his class A and I don’t think he has an IQ wireless charger in his car?
I have a CLA and have the same issue, nowhere near any charger, wireless or not...
I've had this issue since I bought the device last August
I've lost hope a long time ago....

Thank you! I apprentice the info. I will now have to decide if it is worth the aftermarket look or they appear to have car specific wiring harnesses you can plug into the factory radio and use the backup camera (RCA) video for CarPlay... Both options will cost me some serious money.

Maybe I am missing something, but if I were to go for an aftermarket head until, I would get one with Wireless Carplay built in and not wired with our hoaky dongles. Maybe they don't make these?

From my very short research, it does look like the aftermarket head units can come with wireless CarPlay. If I went with the aftermarket route, I would definitely go with the wireless option.

They do make them, but not all cars can fit them.

The point I was making is that the dongles require a HU with wired CarPlay to work, even if they are an aftermarket model.

There are some few options if you would like to retrofit Apple Carplay and preserve the OEM look at the same time, but non that I know of that would give you wireless Carplay out of the box. There are these Android units that you could get for as low as $300 if you make an offer on eBay and and then get a $50-60 Carlinkit Wireless Carplay Adapter to go with it, or you could get this (or any other one like it, there are tons of them out there) mirroring box where you can mirror your iPhone to your car display/Carplay/Android Auto-see video here. You could also achieve wireless Carplay with this option, you just need additional hardware.

hello, today I tried to update my CarPlay2air to 8.22 via usb and now it no longer works .. is there a way to reactivate the dongle?

I do wonder what Apple is going to do when they eliminate the lightening port. They surely can’t leave cars over the last 5-6 years with wired CarPlay obsolete.

You can buy an aftermarket unit with wireless CarPlay, but the starting price is roughly double that of a wired unit. Also, some people bought wired head units before wireless CarPlay was introduced.

This does give me some hope that Apple will at some point come up with a polished version of what we have now, you can still buy brand new cars (at least here in the U.K.) which only have cabled Car play - that said with the latest updates these 3rd party ones are becoming pretty dependable now at least for me

The ultimate state for us is surely an Apple product done right. It has to happen someday.
