It absolutely is interference in my case, because it happens 100% of the time in the same exact spot in my commute (and I have a Ford, not a GM). I believe it has happened to @2018 Denali as well at a particular spot he drives by regularly.

Fair enough. Thought you were another GM guy. Guess we don’t have any of those spots in New England.

Count yourself lucky! It's really annoying (less so now that it auto-reconnects, but still, it takes 30-60 seconds to come back). I've started taking an alternate route through side streets just to avoid it. I've considered looking into a spectrum analyzer and walking around there trying to find the source of the interference.

Has anyone upgraded from 08.27 to 08.29 successfully?

I have tried and could not. It is not something that I am doing wrong, since I have previously updated via usb without problems.

When I introduce the usb with version 08.29, the carlinkit restarts but it does not apply the update. To discard I have downloaded the file again and tried another usb, but the same result.

It can be several things:

That version 08.29 does not detect it as an update and therefore does not apply.

What is something wrong with version 08.27 and does not allow updates.

Regards,

Mine wouldn't upgrade either. I didnt try using the usb charger method. Usually I just plug the usb in and watch the screen update. On the rate they are going Ill just wait for the next update.

Yeah it seems like they've put something in these last couple versions that won't allow upgrade/downgrade from the USB anymore, or it's a new method I haven't tried before. Neither plugging the USB into the dongle and then into a power source, or waiting for the dongle to boot up and then plugging in the USB work. I think I remember reading about this happening awhile ago where they had some versions that wouldn't allow USB updates.

seems Like the non-OTA firmware with new startup interface is the one locking people out. Given non-OTA firmware they uploaded after that one has gone back to the old startup interface that bigger one may have not been ready for the masses with their testing. their engineers can either throw away bricked units or undoubtedly have ways to reformat and reinstall firmware that are not available to the public.

each of these firmwares seem like a bit of Russian roulette for different people. Thanks to those brave enough to go first and be the canary in the coal mine.

I am lucky in general with this device compared to others. That’s funny you taking alternate routes! I would do the same. I have noticed with every firmware that track skips and connection time gets better and better. I really thought this company was going AWOL when they were stuck on 1.22 for two months. You have been a great resource to this thread.

Just done it. Install was straight forward but no new interface

OTA or bust!
Me too. no guarantees, but at least the carlinkit software engineers limited testing was good enough for them to officially release it. I would guess at least some of the firmware we download that never gets released OTA does not even make it through whatever limited testing they might do.

doesn’t mean we have to update OTA only, can still manually update a firmware released OTA.

At the current rate, I am thinking they are just creating daily folders to mess with builds. They copy it over to a new current date folder daily.

My Carlinkit claims I am on the latest at 8.27. It no longer connects to CarPlay. Light is always red. But the WiFi connection is available for Carlinkit and it lets me connect and check for updates via the IP number. But always says the same thing (that I'm on the latest).

Carlinkit sent the following via WhatsApp last night:

"Hello there,
This is the latest version of firmware upgrade, you can try.
Please enter the link to download the unzipped folder and unzip the file "U2W_Update.img"
-------------
Upgrade video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1akjOcSqQE3Uf8dfrO8n0JFlvPhzsC_Tc/view?usp=sharing
This upgrade method is different from the past, you need to pay attention to 100% follow our upgrade steps, otherwise the dongle will die.
Please refer to the attached picture.
About upgrading the dongle/power adapter to upgrade the dongle:
●Preparation materials: product dongle, power adapter, USB flash drive
●Method:
1. Please save the Auto_Box_Update.img file on a USB flash drive
(The format must be FAT32 / allocation unit size 1024bit or the default value) root directory, and insert it into the product's USB port.
2. Plug the product into a USB charger (please do not use the USB ports of cars and computers!!!)
3. Wait 2-3 minutes until the red and blue LEDs light up at the same time. Unplug the USB flash drive.
4. When upgrading the product, please do not turn off the power or unplug the dongle.
●For details, please refer to the attached picture.
After a successful upgrade, you can return to the car for testing.
Looking forward to your reply,
Best wishes."

Tried the Manual update. I'm using a 1Gig stick formatted FAT. Unit powers on when connected to Anker wall outlet power supply, I connect my USB stick, the stick blinks at connection, then nothing happens. Then I am sad.

Is there some other resurrection method I thought I read in here? I've dug around but can't find what I thought I read.

So your adapter was working fine before you flashed 08.27? Did you use the same 1GB USB stick to flash 08.27 or a different one?

I'm not surprised you aren't able to flash to another version given prior posts from others who are also stuck on that version. I wonder if it was a build meant for the joyeauto device, and Carlinkit is preventing joyeauto adapters from flashing vanilla Carlinkit firmware? Just a guess.

I guess I am probably also stuck on 08.27 since I flashed it on my USB-C Carlinkit last week. I haven't actually tried upgrading or downgrading because (knock wood) it's actually working well for me and I like the updated connection screen.

I wonder if it will allow you to re-flash the 08.27 version? Maybe it only partially flashed the last time and applying the same version again might resurrect it? I dunno, worth a shot since you don't have (m)any other options right now. You could try the one uploaded to this thread a couple pages back and also the one directly from their server. Not sure if anyone ever ran an md5 on them to see if they are identical.

First I Tried the OTA update which seemed to fail. Then I went to manual flash method and in that process I used a different USB stick... That one is a Transcend 32G. The seemed to work, however, the unit only connected to CarPlay one time.

My unit did work, but the one thing it did not do was connect at start of the car (Cadillac ATS, or GM woes). So I was hopeful that the 8.27 build would fix it as there were posts as such.

At this point I can't do anything, it won't manually flash, it doesn't find OTA firmware. It has a red light and makes WiFi and that is it.

I think I'm going to send it back to Amazon (I have until Sept. 12th) and get another unless Carlinkit has some other solution.

My unit takes forever to boot with the 8.27 firmware but it eventually works. I'm going to wait until there is another OTA update. If that doesn't take... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My carlinkit 2.0 USB-c dongle that I ordered on July 13 from China has finally landed here in Aus, likely to be delivered this week. Talk about delayed. Almost 2 months.

What’s the best step by step process to get the unit up to date, without bricking the damn thing? I have no idea what firmware version it’ll be running, and I don’t want to screw it first go :)

Only via OTA.
