Shouldn’t you have the USB attached before you power it up?
Yeah, the last thing you do is plug it in the wall. Connect the USB stick to the dongle, connect the dongle to the power supply, THEN plug the power supply into the wall.

Investigating more about the new Joyeauto device (https://www.joyeauto.com/product/wj...factory-wired-carplay-to-wireless-connection/).
It seems that it also uses the "U2W_Update.img" file for the update. Also use via OTA http://192.168.50.2.

It clearly looks like a new clone.
More information. These are the instructions to update the Joyeauto device:
1. Plug the box into the USB port of the computer or 5V charger, and wait 1 minute for the box to power on and run.
2. Insert the USB disk (USB disk file system FAT32) with the upgrade file into the USB port of the USB Dongle
3. The box will start to upgrade, the red and green (or red and blue) indicator lights of the box will flash alternately during the upgrade process. (This upgrade process may take longer or shorter times, and it is recommended to keep this process for 3 minutes)
4. When the red, green (or red and blue) indicator lights of the box no longer flash, it means the upgrade is complete. You can unplug the USB disk (NOT USB Dongle) at this time and wait for 1 minute. During this period, you should see the red power supply of the box has gone out for more than 10 minutes. Lights up again in about seconds
5. The upgrade is complete, at this time you can unplug the box and plug it into the car for use
As you can see, it is the same procedure as our devices. They have also sent me the latest firmware according to them. It is a file called "USB Dongle Update.img" of size 7.7MB. I'm waiting for the version to be confirmed.
Could our devices be updated with this file? Only for very, very brave.
OMG !! The file that Joyeauto sent me (USB Dongle Update.img) is the same as 08.27 (U2W_Update.img) with the new interface.
I will then try to rename the file "U2W_Update.img" (08.31) to "USB Dongle Update.img" and test if it updates it.
I just tried this and for me at least it didn't work.
Well, it only remains to wait for an OTA. By the way new firmware also today:
First I Tried the OTA update which seemed to fail. Then I went to manual flash method and in that process I used a different USB stick... That one is a Transcend 32G. The seemed to work, however, the unit only connected to CarPlay one time.
My unit did work, but the one thing it did not do was connect at start of the car (Cadillac ATS, or GM woes). So I was hopeful that the 8.27 build would fix it as there were posts as such.
At this point I can't do anything, it won't manually flash, it doesn't find OTA firmware. It has a red light and makes WiFi and that is it.
I think I'm going to send it back to Amazon (I have until Sept. 12th) and get another unless Carlinkit has some other solution.

Thanks for confirming--that's what I thought. Carlinkit accidentally posted an update meant for the Joyeauto clone to its firmware site. Those of us who flashed it "converted" our adapters to Joyeauto. There's probably some sort of check that Joyeauto devices run on firmware files and will refuse to flash vanilla Carlinkit firmware.
For me, 08.27 is working great, but I feel for you guys who it's not working well for and are currently stuck. If you haven't already, you should definitely let Carlinkit support know that you're stuck on 08.27 and can't flash any other firmware. Seems to me they need to create a firmware that allows you to flash back to the Carlinkit fw branch.
Curious, for the folks stuck on 8.27, when you do an OTA check, does it say 8.22 update available? Mine did after I flashed to 8.27. I executed it and it brought me back to 8.22 which is where I am at.
Thanks, guess maybe the 8.27 manual update didn't take. I tried it twice.I am at 08.27 and in the OTA verification it tells me that it is the latest version.

Yes, and I did... waited for the light to come on.Shouldn’t you have the USB attached before you power it up?
Actually they say that the procedure has changed. Plug the dongle in and let it power up, then plug the stick into it. I believe it was in the set of instructions they sent me that I posted a bit back. But regardless, either way, unit does nothing. Left it plugged in for hours with the stick attached.Yeah, the last thing you do is plug it in the wall. Yeah I wonder if this does boil down to what firmware you had prior to trying to flash 08.27. Were you on 08.12? Maybe Carlinkit programmed in a check to the later August firmwares to block installing Joyeauto firmware. I think you, @D3ggy and @alanplum all had the experience of flashing 08.27 but not seeing the new interface. Do all of you remember what version you were on prior?
I'm almost positive that my adapter was on 08.04 (I remember flashing 07.29 via USB and then doing an OTA update to 08.04). I then flashed 08.27 via USB and immediately saw the joyeauto interface. I haven't checked 192.168.50.2 yet but will do that later today to see what it says, but I suspect I will have the same result as @DarkEvilRivas.

Here is the update I received from Carlinkit yesterday via WhatsApp where they say, "This upgrade method is different from the past, you need to pay attention to 100% follow our upgrade steps, otherwise the dongle will die.":I thought that was always the way they said to do it... going all the way back to the December/January update.
At the very least, it is the way I have always manually updated.
Super frustrated and seemingly in a deadlock with a unit that doesn't do anything I processed a return with Amazon.
Then after the update (I'm not sure why I didn't try this before) I took the Carlinkit dongle to my wife's car that has a Pioneer AVH-2300NEX, the dongle paired there and worked without any trouble at all.
Then I took it to my son's car that has a Pioneer SPH-DA120 AppRadio 4 and it worked there as well.
Lucky me it seems to just be a problem with working at all on a Cadillac now (at least prior it would connect if plugged in after the car was started). In the Cadillac CUE system you have to allow CarPlay on a connected device, which I do, but after that the Carlinkit will sit for several seconds with a red light and then reboot itself. This cycle continues until unplugged or the car is shut off.
But knowing that the unit works makes me think I should kill off the return.
I also wonder if there is some thing in this build of firmware where it is looking for a different firmware name than the U2W_Update.img. The quote from their directions state, "1. Please save the Auto_Box_Update.img file on a USB flash drive..."
Uh, Auto_Box_Update.img?
I tried renaming the U2W_Update.img to that but it didn't work. Still looking for a firmware update solution that will allow me to at least get back to the 8-22 firmware that mostly worked.
How else do you explain that people on 08.27 can't flash backwards or forwards? And that the firmware specifically provided by Joyeauto for their customers is identical to the 08.27 fw that Carlinkit posted on their site? I agree that hardware-wise the Joyeauto is identical to the Carlinkit, and that Carlinkit is making the firmware for both devices (hence why the 08.27 firmware Joyeauto is providing ended up on Carlinkit's server to begin with).I doubt the whole JoyeAuto theory. I think the JoyeAuto device is just a Carlinkit with a different casing. I doubt the device "knows" wether it's a Carlinkit or Joye Auto at all. I think the 'new' interface is just that - the new interface. And the fact that some are seeing it and some aren't is just a glitch, and has been removed from 08-29 until it's fixed and ready and will eventually come back in a later update.
It would be an interesting test for someone who isn't on 08.27 to try USB flashing the 08.29 version, but first rename it to auto_box_update.img. It may be that the adapters always look for both filenames.I also believe the whole Autobox-thing is just a typo. They also keep mixing up the colors of the LEDs (blue/red vs green/red on USB-A vs USB-C versions) in their descriptions.
