As long as current UI is red it will work.

You can roll back if there are issues. Even without the ui.tar.gz the dongle will still boot just with a black screen. worst case you can revert using my script or SFTP into the device and copy the ui.tar.gz back to /usr/sbin

As long as you have AUTOKIT CUSTOM Firmware installed when you install theme, it will work.

It will automatically pick the correct resolution, if it is an unsupported resolution you will see the same UI you see now but it will be blue, just a ugly interface, with elements whereever they are by default.
Perfect. Can't wait to try it.

For those doing UI development using a tablet (saved me from going to the vehicle each time) you can do the following commands within SSH:

Do this once to make sure sysrq system is enabled:
Code:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq

Then use the following command to reboot:
Code:
echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger

Now after a UI change, SCP or TFTP, you can just call the reboot without having to unplug the USB.

Just received a $30 USB-C clone from Amazon (came with Nov. 2020 old-ui blue.green firmware).

Upgraded it to CUSTOM small_rootFS 2020.12.10_BASED

Ran Check free space U2W.sh to check size of rootFS - text file saved to USB reported 12.MB

Upgraded to AUTOKIT CUSTOM Firmware 2020.02.02_BASED

Used TireGuy6 U2W.sh and ui.tar.gz on old SLC 256MB USB

Native-like CarPlay UI working great on aftermarket Sony AX5000 (800x480 resolution)

Thanks for all the great work TireGuy6 👍👍👍👍

APPLE CAR PLAY UI THEME

EXCLUSIVELY FOR U2W AUTOKIT (RED INTERFACE)

Notes:

You MUST be on 'CUSTOM AUTOKIT' FIRMWARE. This was developed on Feb 2021 software but is most likely compatible on older versions.

Questions?

*yes* it must be custom firmware* - you cannot access the file system on stock FW

*yes* it must be AUTOKIT version - blue version uses different code, if anyone wants to test and find out, be my guest. However I am pretty sure it wont work and you may brick your device.

*it MUST be a U2W Device* (As far as I know AUTOKIT is only U2W devices)

Any bug fixes or element adjustments *MUST* be opened on Github, if you have questions, open them on GITHUB discussion. This thread moves to fast to help.

For further information regarding installation check github in the /install or uninstall directories and read the README.TXT file for further instructions.

You will require 3 things:

1) USB Stick
2) U2W Dongle running Custom AUTOKIT FW
3) Brain.

I am not responsible for mistakes.

Thankyou @dca78 for helping with the 1280x720 version, without him it wouldn't exist.

Enjoy:

Theme fully supports 3 resolutions:

1) 800x480
2) 1920x720
3) 1280x720

If you don't have a compatible resolution you will see everything out of place and it will look like the current ugly interface. It will still work and you can either revert. There is one file not updated called "1024" version in the code but the file doesn't seem to be maintained well, so its possible that this is not a very popular/universal resolution for displays.

*** IF YOU NEED YO CHANGE TO CUSOM FIRMWARE ITS SUGGESTED TO STAY AT 02.02.2021 and not March update as they have made changes abs specifically changed wifi drivers and some devices are failing after moving to this firmware! ***

If you downloaded and like the theme, all i ask if that you like this post to show your appreciation!
Just installed on my 2021.03.06 Autokit and works! The February firmware my steering wheel buttons didn't work (prior to this), so I've been on March, and this looks great. Thanks!

I Expect them to steal it :)

I’m glad you like it. I have OCD so I didn’t want to release it until I was fully satisfied with it.

Took a lot of time to edit make the images and Different revisions with different changes. I don’t usually release my code to public - most of the stuff I do is for personal use.

Im glad I could help make this semi-decent hardware look less ugly

I was getting really annoyed when this thing takes 30 seconds to connect looking at that l

what happens when you connect using a lightning cable?

HeadUnit > CPlay2Air > Lightning Cable > iPhone 12

maybe it needs a little "nudge" to make your iPhone 12 and dongle recognize each other. if carplay launches wired passing thru the dongle, then remove the lightning cable and then see if wireless carplay activates?

If that doesn't work, try to do a "forced reboot" on your iPhone 12.
Thank you for your kind help, unfortunately it not work, if i'm using lightning cable it will nicely connect, but when i unplug the cable it will disconnected, when i try to connect my iPhone will connected to dongle bluetooth then nothing happen, the wifi there is no wifi connection between my iPhone 12 and dongle. it's look like my iPhone 12 wont connect to dongle wifi

Hey

Sorry this has probably been answered but it’s all moving at such a quick pace it’s hard to keep up!

I have a carlinkit 2.0 usb c device, it’s running the custom firmware with the Autokit UI (2021.03.09)

Do I have any downgrade options at the moment? I like the Autokit UI and also plan to install TireGuy6’s CarPlay UI but I keep having random reboots of the device which were much rarer before, but I can’t remember if this is one I can downgrade or not! I have no downgrade option in the UI.

I have been trying to figure out... is it the case that in order to work, an update from USB flash memory must always contain a version number higher than the currently installed? If yes, then what is the mechanism - would it be possible to repackage the 2021-02-02 image with a later reference in order to for an "update" for those who are stuck with 2021.03.06 and no wi-fi?

I have a Mercedes CLA with MBUX. Currently, Carplay has not the full size of the display. Can I fix it with another Carlinkit custom firmware? Or is there no possibility?

Hi @TireGuy6, I have copied the 2 files and plug it in my custom march firmware device but the red light remains red and nothing happens.

Then I plug the usb back to my computer and it created an additional "U2W" file with the error below.

Any idea why this is happening?

EDIT: This is now solved.
I opened up the U2W.sh with notepad and there were a lot of code before the script. I deleted the rubbish and copy the raw script then save.

It installed and now working :)

Look here

I have the dongle, and I am trying to instal the custom firmware. I am on VER:2021.03.06.1355 but rolled back to 2020.12.25.1731. I downloaded the small rootfs and put it on a blank FAT32 drive in the root directly. When I plug in the usb to the dongle, nothing happens, CarPlay still shows. I then tried unplugging the dongle, inserting the usb to the dongle, then the dongle to the car. When I do this, the dongle doesn't boot up at all, and no lights show?

Yes, you can downgrade I posted instructions in the last 3-4 pages how to downgrade. Ludwig has a script.

Not sure if you need small root fs if you have u2w just use AutoKit fw

I have a Command unit and it’s full screen 1920. When i tested with dca78 he had the same issue with his mbux. It would be controlled by a setting in the mbux sw. there is a 1920 version on dongle but mbux is telling dongle to use 1280.

why are you using small rootfs if you on RED firmware already ? and if you are on red file name need to be "U2W_AUTOKIT_Update'

Plug the dongle into a wall outlet to upgrade not the car.

this may have adverse affects if car play files are in use.

Just wanted to provide some info with my Explorer and Sync 3.4. Yesterday I was able to test 4 different versions of Sync 3.4.

version 19101 (First version of 3.4), 20136 (Mention by another user in this thread to work for them), 20282, and the latest 20351.

I made sure to reset the Carlinkit adapter every time and a Master Reset was done on Sync with every update. The Phones bluetooth settings were also cleared of the Carlinkit Device connection.

Also, I tried the Compatible option in settings as well as rebooting after the setting was applied to ensure it was "active" with each Sync version

All of the scenarios experienced the same issue with firmwares past the August Firmware and crash when Siri is used.

It is strange that it has worked for some on 3.4 and not others.

As a sidenote...I didn't realize you could downgrade your Sync version in your vehicle, but I had no issues and verified in the About Sync section the version changes throughout testing. If you use the Syn3Updater App that CyanLabs built, make sure you have the autoinstall option selected and NOT downgrade or reformat. This could cause damage to the partition tables in your Sync Radio's memory.

You did not specify what you did to cause this and if there was any message displayed when you connect it
