I would be very surprised if this behaviour is down to the wireless adapter. Have you tried cabled? Think it more likely to be a setting in iOS such as your CarPlay dark mode (check the Settings app when in CarPlay).

2019 CR-V. Default startup seems to work for me.
I have an 19 Odyssey and the CarPlay randomly works, I have tried playing with the start-up delay value and even with compatibility mode.
Any specific settings you using to get it to work everytime the car starts?
I have confirmed "Compatibility mode" and "start up delay to 2 sec" on my Mazda MX5 with official 2021-03-06 firmware.
However, After apply 2 changing, I got encountered issue for connecting . It was 50/50 chance. It was connected with no problem, and It wasn't connect with USB couldn't detected. So I revert setting to "Normal mode" and "No delay setting"
then I tried to use custom firmware below.
So I have tried to apply custom vlud firmware 2021-03-06-BASED. Version show 2021.03.09.0001, so I believe updating to CFW is success.
then I drive 2 hours. then, unfortunately I got reboot twice in 2+ hours. so I suppose it is same issue with official firmware on my environment.
To be shared my environement, listed below
- Mazda connect 70.00.351 JP M
- iPhone 7 (iOS 14.4.2)
- Carlinkit 2.0 (USB C)
- CFW 2021.03.06_BASED
- Settings
Sync Mode : Normal
Sound Quality : DVD

Automatic : ON
Background : Off

Mine was pretty hit or miss on the earlier firmwares. I stopped using it for about a year. Then I updated to the November 2020 firmware and everything just worked. Now I’m on March 2021 firmware and it’s still reliable with default settings.
I just have auto connect turned off because we use it with multiple phones and auto connect was annoying.
it got nothing to do with "dark mode" i its a day night setting on the maps all 3 of them ( google waze ios )
normally its based of sunset sunrise
like already mentions i have power cycle dongle for it to go back to normal ... i don't have to touch the phone ...
Do you experience the same behaviour cabled only - without the dongle (not cabled through it in passthrough)?
Apple and Google go off of ambient light in the cabin and/or whether the headlights are turned on or not. Waze simply goes off whether CarPlay is set in light mode or dark mode. I use Waze and keep CarPlay in dark mode (it looks better with the dashboard) and my map is always dark regardless of time of day (which is extremely annoying.)
i do not , but its not all the time so it may just not come up ...

I think the car can transmit the information as well. I need to double-check but I believe CarPlay switches to night mode when driving through tunnels or into a garage.

It used to reboot every 30 sec.
If I drive that long. I would just plug it in and charge the phone at the same time. MY commutes are less than an hour, not an issue for me. Email them your issue. Maybe it will get fixed in the future?

I haven't noticed it. If it still works. I wouldn't worry about it.

Huh. I'm jealous, I wish mine worked this way. It's the same both wired and wireless for me. If you google "waze carplay dark" there's tons of people with the same issue. Count yourself lucky!

Thanks for your comment. it used to reboot every 30 sec in last year. we (Mazda user) couldn't use carlinkit at that time.
then now reboot is occurred every an hours. so I also think this is not big issue. it is very useful for me right now, and long time drive is not so often.
but it is perfect for everyone if it is resolved. so I'll let them know via email.
My environment on Mazda MX5, It is not happened normally. but I have experience to NOT connect CarPlay twice. at that time, I have remove/ON cable, then recovered without any issue. Firmware is 2021-03-06

Behold dark map Waze in the middle of the day in bright sunlight, headlights off, appearance mode set to Auto. Again, I'm pretty sure Waze is going off of CarPlay's interface mode (light vs. dark) because if I switch CarPlay to light mode, it turns light. Switching Waze's mode manually to Day also works but that's is obviously not ideal. Keeping CarPlay in Automatic isn't my favorite either since the light mode contrasts to heavily with the black/dark radio and trim in my GTI.

After mine got bricked a while ago, there are no lights at all.
This thread seems like the most thorough discussion on the internet about these devices. I'm disappointed to see that this discussion has already been silenced just as users have begun to customize these things to work better. Is there any other place to have a free discussion about modding these adapters?
