I recently received a carplay2air receiver that I wanted to use with my aftermarket Sony XAv-AX5000 head unit. Both on the factory firmware and the March update I see the same behaviour. The carplay2air unit connects to my phone, CarPlay starts, then goes to a blank blue screen. CarPlay is still running, music will play and if I hit the home button a couple of times it will bring the CarPlay interface back up on the screen. Not horrible, but annoying. Is there an older firmware or custom firmware that I should try instead?
Custom firmware will only

1) increase cpu
2) disable logging to save ram
3) allow custom scripts to be executed
4) allow you to change theme

it’s recommended using a custom firmware regardless

try the feb 2021 custom firmware

however I do get a black screen sometimes in my Mercedes, what I do is click “CarPlay” on my hoemscreen and it comes back, mildly annoying

seems if I unpair my phone and repair it’s ok for a bit

My issue with the August firmware is that the framerate of Carplay is a lot lower and the interface is crap. Sure the Steering Wheel button works, but at the cost of other features like having it boot up in the background without any splash screen at all. I hate that @CarlinKit has just completely abandoned people and can't even address the product's shortcomings. They've been silent on all channels.

Hi guys

I’ve a Carlink v2 (black box with usb type c cable and green/red led). There is an app to use on Android tablet and make test instead of car?
Thanks

You are right. I mean... in my case I didn't notice a great performance issue but I already miss the chance to hide the startup screen, for sure. But for me, The August firmware fix anything related to Siri. So now I can use again WhatsApp or Telegram or iMessage and that's important to me.

About performances, with Ludwigs Custom Firmware the situation should improve (and for the splash screen there's the TireGuy6 new theme that can be uploaded on custom firmware).

The thing is I don't know if I can swap from the August Firmware to the August custom one. I asked that few post ago but I saw the posts are missing. I spent so many hours on this that I am honestly "scared" to put my hands on that dongle again...

I chatted a lot with their support, I gave them all my feedbacks, told them I was available for test but... It's hard to understand if they are really taking you in consideration.

Hmmm, what's the situation with @TireGuy6? His status now shows as "Suspended". Also, @Long John I do remember seeing your post asking if there was a custom version of the August firmware but looks like it got removed. I don't recall ever seeing posts in this thread removed before, and there has been plenty of previous discussion about the Ford issue and the @VLud firmware modifications, so I'm not sure what happened here today.

If the mods are taking actions in this thread, I ask them to please be as transparent as possible. Are some topics/questions verboten?

Hi Mazda user.
I’m using Carlinkit 2.0 (USB-C) with 2021-03-06 firmware on My MX5.
It seems it is happened reboot after started 1~2 hours. then connect soon again.
so it is not big issue, but I would like to know that other users occurred same issue or not.

I appreciate if Mazda user post the comment. Thank you.

Hi all, I looked for a feedback of Carlinkit/Cplay2air adapter paired with Audi A3 2019, but I didn't find any confirmation, so I want to report my experience.
I bought a Carlinkit v2 adapter from Aliexpress for 67€ (I think it's a fair price), here the link, and I'm quite satisfied.

The adapter arrived already flashed with firmware 2020.12.25.1731 and I don't notice any disturbing delay during calls, even if I think there is around 1 sec delay when listening to music. From the moment I turn on the engine to the moment carplay is up and running playing music it takes around 20/30 sec.

Since I'm already using the last firmware version and everything is working fine (so far), I think I will not risk to update to custom firmware for now.

I hope this help others with the same car model.

Yes @TireGuy6 is suspended... see https://github.com/th1efx/AutoKit-CarPlay/blob/Updated-main/Install/Why were you banned?

Strange that people are suspended without any warnings and who are really valuable for this kind of forums.
I agree with you that mods must be transparent what is allowed or not, and not suspend someone without warnings etc.

That isn’t the latest firmware, not official anyway. The latest is 2021-03-06. Check once connected with browser on iPhone 192.168.50.2.

Oh you are right, I was fooled by the message "It is the latest version" on 192.168.50.2 webpage, so I didn't tap on "Check for updates". 😅

What did it say? Looks like his GitHub repo is gone now.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if it could have been a takedown request from Apple since his UI was made up of actual iOS/CarPlay graphic elements. Just a guess, as I have no insight into what happened. It's a shame though.

Really strange that the GitHub repo has been deleted.. from what I read, he will continue for its private usage and not anymore in public. This is sad as he spent so much time on this. Maybe moderator could give us more details on this (Apple or Carlinkit request?). I would hope that if it’s coming from Apple then he could continue just changing the theme to something else..

Yes, I noticed all my last messages went automatically under moderator review but they was published after review.
Maybe this triggered a check on something, my comment about downgrade disappeared but I can't see any problem with that.

Maybe Tiregui replied inappropriately to someone? I don't know. I guess the fact that his GitHub disappeared isn't casual. Was it copyright infringement or the suspension made him angry? Either way, this is sad because this tread is just awesome. I hope I haven't indirectly caused his suspension.

I actually just took a 2 hour triad trip yesterday with my 2019 Mazda CX-5 and my carlinkit 2.0 with the March firmware did crash once.

Same, Reboot every hours with FW: 2021-03-06.
If you want to run an earlier firmware, use the web interface to roll back to the November 2020 image (if you do not see the option try closing your browser, empty the cache then reconnect), download one of the later official firmwares from this archive maintained by @KevinGrabher and upgrade from USB following the usual instructions.

Hi, I’ve got the Carlinkit 2.0 in my F150 running the latest version of Sync 3.4. Sync has an option to “Show [CarPlay] on Connection.” With a wired iPhone, when you have that option turned on, it will never show CarPlay until you press the button for it. For the Carlinkit, I’ve got that option disabled and I’ve got background mode turned on in the settings. But when my iPhone connects, the CarPlay interface pops up automatically. Is there any way to disable this? It seems to be a glitch since it shouldn’t be doing so. If anyone has a suggestion, I would appreciate it!

Only 2021.1.28 or newer will work with Mazda.

I’m actually fine using the March firmware on my cx5. One reboot after a 2 hour drive is not gonna be the death of me haha. Just wanted to let @chari it was happening to my Mazda also.

Question for all you experts. I finally went back to using mine after a long hiatus. The new firmwares seem to work much better with my 2019 CR-V, but I have one quirk that bugs me.

Is there a way to disable auto-connect? We use it with 2 phones and the carlinkit always tries to connect to the previous device. I'd honestly rather it just didn't auto connect. Is there any way to disable it?

Thank you for your information sharing.
It seems we had got reboot/crash after 2 hour driving on Mazda. Not just my environment.
Hope it will be fixed.
